It is possible to end up with a longer chain, but the majority will be six or fewer because in that time you can tend to get to something like a country or a broad abstract concept that will link to countless other entries. Wikipedia itself - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Six_degrees_of_Wikipedia#Surprisingly_short_chains - lists one eight link chain, and five seven link chains, but also only short lists of five and six links, so it's entirely possible that we could stumble on something with more than six links.
