While this year obviously lacks the star power of Nakamura or AJ it has given them a great opportunity to get some new faces into the G1 which I think really breathes some new life into the tournament.

Tama Tonga deserves his spot after a great last 6 months (and they've wisely avoided Tama Loa/Roa/Boa - whatever the fuck he's called)

EVIL and Sanada are brand new and the crowd clearly want to see more of them. Nakajima is being given a huge chance here and hopefully will make the most of it. Even Kenny Omega, shudder, adds something different. I've just realised that as well as no Tenzan there is no Yujiro, which means no Mao-chan......let that sink in for a moment

Yujiro hasn't had a valet for months. Don't think MAO's appeared in New Japan seen since last year. Tenzan got on the mic at one of the recent shows to vent his displeasure at not being included in G1. I hope they send him off to NOAH. He doesn't really serve any purpose these days. A few guys on that list are just making up the numbers. YOSHI-HASHI's pretty shit. Don't really know why they persist with him. Not big enough, his body type just doesn't look right & his skills are passable at best. Personally, I've no time for SANADA. Seen quite a lot of him in; All Japan, Wrestle-1 etc. Despite being heavily pushed, he always looked weak and lacked heart as a heavyweight. Can't say the prospect of Marufuji thrills me either.

Yujiro usually only has a valet for big singles matches, which kind of ties in to the point I was making.

Yoshi-Hashi will probably lose all his matches but the NJ underdog role is one of the most reliable go to roles the company has. And the hardcore clearly love him.

Sanada is clearly a different man. He's bulked up, has a badass look and wrestles completely differently to his W1/TNA days.

So all the tournament matches has just been announced. Looks pretty good.

Gotta say cant wait for this. I will be going to Japan from July 16 to August 12. So far I will be going to the following G1 shows 22 July (Korakuen) / 23 July (Machida) / 24 July (Korakuen Hall, if I can make it, going to BJW at Sumo Hall same day) / July 30 (Nagoya) / August 6 (Osaka) / August 8 (Yokohama)

Shibata vs Honma on July 22 should be really fun. Same with Shibata vs Nakajima on July 24.

I´m betting local NOAH fans will attend to cheer on Nakajima and Marufuji and that is always pretty fun and creates a great crowd, specially in Korakuen Hall.

Yujiro doesn't have big singles matches.

Has SANADA bulked up? Looks pretty much the same to me. A mask & leather jacket doesn't make someone bad ass. Helps the illusion perhaps. As long as he's part of a heel stable, I imagine he'll be fine. G1 might be some sort of indicator as to whether he's toughened up, though he's not going to be having 25 minute matches in that.

Hence why I wrote "badass LOOK". But whatever

I'd love to see some pictures of Machida. It's the only venue in Tokyo I haven't been to and it's not used for wrestling very often. Seems like a random part of Tokyo to have a wrestling show. But great stuff, That's a lot of travelling you're doing, it's going to be amazing. Hot and sticky, but amazing.

Yeah, the venue in Machida is rarely used. Seems promotions in Japan use Yokohama Bunka more when they need something right outside Tokyo. I think the venue is still pretty big and can hold atleast 3000+.

Japan summer is hot and humid, I done Japan summer 2 times before. And this time I´m going to Nagasaki aswell, which will be more hot then Tokyo haha.

Must say I´m looking more forward to the BJW show at Sumo Hall on July 23. Looks like such a great card, with a BUNCH of good single and tag matches.

Well, since nobody else has answered I'll chime in on that one. Yes, said same Nakajima who was as polished at 17 as anyone has a right to be, Sasaki and Hokuto's "adopted son" (not really) and general child prodigy. He's a bit podgier than he used to be and as such is pushed in Noah as a heavy but he's a heavyweight in the same way Marufuji is, in that he works that style against "fellow" heavyweights even though you can tell he's only about 200lb max. He recently had a Korakuen main event against Minoru Suzuki which he won to earn a shot against Sugiura for the big belt (Sugi joined Suzuki-gun while they've been in Noah) but he lost. As a fresh face with bags of talent, Noah are presenting him as a star. Well, as big a star as Noah can in 2016.
