I think it's a good list, it's a nice mix of different kinds of things. A couple of big surprises, quite a few films that I expected to make it didn't make it, and I think the number one is a surprise as well.

Yeah there's a lot of interesting things with top film lists, for example I know there's a lot of Star Wars fans on here, but with the vote getting split between them (well, some of them) it's probable they will get David Ginola'd. Same with a lot of the big franchise films, LOTR, Bond etc. I think it'll also be interesting to compare this thread once it's finished to the 'how old are you' thread and work out that the average age of the forum at the point they were 15-20 will be where most of the votes will have gone.

Now that you mention it, unless I am remembering wrongly, I don't think a single Bond film got a single vote.

I never really get on with Kelly's Heroes for some reason. I've tried but didn't enjoy it. There are some great samples in it though.

BTW, Gladders, the 3rd link on the Bruges clips is wrong.

One of the best bits of Kelly's Heroes, for me anyway Tank Attack on a Rail Yard to a Hank Williams soundtrack

Really love the film to bits and have done so since it was a late night staple on BBC1 during the early 1990's

It also boasts a cracking Lalo Schifrin soundtrack, 'Tiger Tank' was later reused in Inglorious Basterds by Tarantino and also was John Landis' first proper film job as an Assistant Director. Im not sure if this is before or after he filmed some porn movies (he did film some Porn Movies, right? This isnt just Empire tricking me again?)

My aim is to put all of the films on this list that I haven't seen before on my LoveFilm list and work through them. 'Kelly's Heroes', for some reason, is one I've never gotten round to seeing so that's 1 out of 2 so far. Glad In Bruges got a few votes, not one that would make my top 10 but a great and very re-watchable film

Same here, except replace "lovefilm" with "stuff to download". I have also not seen Kelly's Heroes, and also really like In Bruges even though I didn't nominate it.

This should be a good list!

Thinking of doing this too. My movie watching over the last 5 years has been absolutely dismal. To the point where Woyzeck asked me in chat what my movie of the year was and I literally had no answer.

Gladders, I must insist that you rip off the SOMB school of house style and include a sweeping pretentious opening statement and/or quote from the movie in question, a 'ranked highest by' naming who ranked it highest and also credit quotes on the film itself, assuming people wrote lots of nice things like me.

It's the little details.

Also, I guarantee that my #1 is one of those that didn't place in the 50 and if that's true, you all fucking suck.

I stopped reading after "1.5 listens". What are they talking about?!

Scott Pilgrim vs. the World (2010)

Scott_Pilgrim_vs._the_World_teaser.jpg

People wot put it in 1st place: 0

IMDB Rating: 7.6

What's it about?

Michael Cera wants to have it off with Mary Elizabeth Winstead (join the queue, son) but she said he has to beat up all her exes first. I think that's how they do it in Moss Side as well.

What do we say?

I've not seen this one yet. Harmonic Generator has, though:-

"I feel like it epitomises my generation. It's scary how much I can relate to it."

So has Dingbat:-

"Fantastic idea, really well executed, and even a post-Arrested Development Michael Cera is good."

I like Edgar Wright so I would imagine that I would watch this at some point even if it does look a bit comic book-y and superhero-y for my liking. It does seem to have garnered some intriguingly mixed reviews from several quarters. Praise from the likes of Quentin Tarantino, Kevin Smith and Jason Reitman is expected. They love this stuff. But some critics seemed down on Cera's performance, with one suggesting that Stephen Chow should have been the lead.

If that were the case, I would definitely have watched it by now. Still, it has a splendid cast of up-and-comers and Winstead's got pink hair in it, so clearly it hasn't gained such a dedicated following for nothing, plus a different take on the comic book / superhero genre has got to be applauded, hasn't it?

Some good bits! (I think)

I don't think a single Bond film got a single vote.

Good lord, not even Goldfinger? That's surprising.

I feel quite shameful that I didn't get round to nominating in the end, sorry for letting the team down brahs. I might also join the bandwagon in watching all films that make the list I haven't seen before.

In Bruges is absolutely brilliant, and the comments about Ralph Fiennes performance (being a decent Sexy Beast tribute) are bang on. The chemistry between Gleeson and Farrell is what keeps the film ticking over. Haven't seen the other two, so I have my list started already.

Oh, for fuck's sake: Scott Pilgrim was definitely the worst film I saw last year. Every single joke is a laugh because you recognise the reference rather than because it's actually funny. Not even Chris Evans could make it good, even if his part was the only tolerable bit.
