Philo_Vance 0 Report post Posted January 15, 2012 Not sure if this has been done before, I couldn't find another thread like it and don't recall seeing one. Anyway, I know there's a few folks on here that like cooking, so why not have a thread to share pics/tales of your wondrous culinary escapades. Â I'll kick things off with tonight's creation, inspired by watching Man vs Food on Dave this morning. It's Stromboli, essentially a saucy calzone. The filling is layers of mozzarella, homemade spicy pizza sauce, chorizo, salami and parma ham with some chopped onions and peppers. It's entirely fucking stupid and ridiculous but it looked like fun on the telly so I thought I'd give it a crack. Â Â Â Admittedly, it looks ropey as all hell here. It tastes awesome though. Stuffed. Lefty 0 Report post Posted January 15, 2012 I made a fucking banging sarnie earlier on: A layer of Jarlsberg, a layer of Chorizo, grated Stilton, German peppered salami, more Jarlsberg, Parma ham and Brie on a ciabbata then stuck it under the grill for a few minutes. Topped it off with some spinach and rocket and watched the Swansea/Arsenal game. Delightful.
rubbafish 4 Report post Posted January 15, 2012 Very nice, especially the dough. Looks like calzone perfection... i really can't be arsed with kneading and waiting to rise. I adore cooking but baking is not my strong point.

Seems so simple and a toasted salt beef/gherkin/mustard sandwich rules the world!  http://www.guardian.co.uk/lifeandstyle/gal...brine-a-brisket  Pulled pork is awesome. Used to do it in the oven which was great, but got a smoke last year and did a full pork shoulder which was heavenly. Interested in the recipe for Apple BBQ sauce. Biscuits and gravy is awesome too. I found the best sausage to use in it is cumberland. has a nice level of spice.  Been doing Pastrami and salt-beef for years. Tastes so much better than the shop bought version. Frenches Deli mustard is great on both.
Philo_Vance 0 Report post Posted January 16, 2012 (edited) Thunderplex- the recipe for the bbq sauce is:  250g apple puree 125g ketchup 350g soft brown sugar 5 tbsp lemon juice 1/2 tsp paprika 1/2 tsp salt 1/2 tsp black pepper 1/2 tsp garlic powder 1/2 tsp cinnamon  Just let it simmer away for a bit. It's simmering on my stove right now. I used a bit more paprika than the recipe calls for just because I like it, and a splash more lemon juice, just to take the edge off the sweetness- be warned, this is a very, very sweet sauce compared with most barbecue sauces. It's really nice though, and should complement the pork that's currently sitting in my slow cooker quite well. Going with sweet potato wedges for my side dish tonight as I'm feeling lazy, gonna do the biscuits and gravy when I make it for the wife later on in the week. Chest Rockwell 2,029 Report post Posted January 16, 2012 That calzone looks amazing. Â I haven't cooked anything more than eggs for about 6 months, but I love food. I'm jealous of people who can do this shit well.

It's the nicest thing I've ever tasted.  What the fuck is biscuits and gravy? Sounds fun and American.
Philo_Vance 0 Report post Posted January 16, 2012 Biscuits are a bit like savoury scones, they come as a side dish with a white, sausage based gravy. One of the things I miss most about living in the US.
Keith Houchen 5,640 Report post Posted January 16, 2012 Actually, Loki, I pinched your recipe for those barbecued garlic mushrooms, they were lovely!
Thunderplex 719 Report post Posted January 16, 2012 Philo - That sauce recipe is amazing, cheers. I could practically taste it as was reading the recipe. Not surprised you miss biscuits and gravy. Had it at least 5 times when I was over there last year. Â Loki - Quickest way to make biscuits is to get some Bisquick from Tesco, and follow the recipe online. For the gravy, skin a cumberland sausage, and fry it off, breaking it up as you go. add some flour to mix with the fat and fry it as a blonde roux, then add the milk, and plenty of black pepper. When gravy consistency, pour over your freshly baked biscuits, and eat while making noises of pure pleasure. Â BBQ Garlic Mushrooms? Please share!
