d-d-d-dAz
Man, the art of naming a band has really gone to the fucking dogs recently.
DeanoTheGame
Lock-Up Stage looks excellent. If I had the money I'd buy a Reading ticket just for Social D, Anti-Flag, Bouncing Souls, Dead To Me, Random Hand, Less Than Jake, Apologies, Gallows, Me First, Polar Bear Club and The Flatliners. Excellent set of bands right there.
d-d-d-dAz
I'm kind of out of the punk/hardcore loop but Wilhelm Scream/Every Time I Die/This Is Hell will do for me. Turbonegro are always fun, too. I used to bloody love Less Than Jake and, if I was going on my own, i'd check them out. But, I can guarantee i'll be watching the Foo's then. Paid Members Dead Mike Posted April 18, 2012 Paid Members Share Posted April 18, 2012 Bit disappointed with the Lock Up this year, I was on the fence about getting a day ticket if Rancid were announced but I think I'll pass this year. Slam Dunk festival in Leeds looks good though,
Paid Members Bellenda Carlisle Posted May 27, 2012 Paid Members Share Posted May 27, 2012 don't know if this is common knowledge now but my mate who knows loads of people in rock media (he's a photographer) told me that machine head are the secret headline act for bloodstock that will be announced on June 6th, hope that's not true, I hate machine head and they're always over here, was hoping for someone a bit less mainstream and more special. Paid Members Dead Mike Posted May 27, 2012 Paid Members Share Posted May 27, 2012 It seems to be the general concensus on the Download forums that it's Machine Head. Â On a seperate note, saw this on Metal Hammer. Phil Anselmo, Geezer Butler, Kerry King & Mike Portnoy played load of Pantera & Slayer tracks. Pretty cool Video Link

If that is the case, then the Bloodstock crowd will shit all over that because MH are not "TRUE" metal. Forget the fact that Mahine Head have put out 2 phenomenal albums in the last few years and might actually sell some tickets, why book them when you can book some Finnish power metal who think they're in lord of the rings
Paid Members Bellenda Carlisle Posted May 27, 2012 Paid Members Share Posted May 27, 2012 I just think of bloodstock as being an alternative from the more mainstream rock festivals, I still think the headliner should be a big act but someone like mercyful fate or manowar would be more appropriate, machine head are the sort of band who'd play at download or sonisphere or even reading. You can make the same tired "elitist metalhead" comments but I think machine head are a disappointing choice, I expected something more specialised. Who will headline next year, slipknot? KingOfMetal
I'm not saying its a good booking (if its accurate). But it shows how far Bloodstock has come as a festival in terms of the size of act they can attract (last time I went, Saxon and Nightwish were the headliners)
Kiffy
Nah, if you ignore the one shite nu metal abomination machinehead are pretty well loved by most metallers, bloodstock included, they'll go down very well. That's if it's not slayer, which seems to be the other most likely shout.
KingOfMetal
Don't get me wrong, I'd love for them to go down well at Bloodstock, and hope that the elitists get it stuck to them. It just seems weird that they're to announce it 2 days before Machine Head play another festival If Bloodstock was in any other country in Europe, Manowar would be the kind of band to have this headliner announcement for, and would be a logical booking for Bloodstock. But as their tour over here last November showed, there is an audience for them , but it is much smaller than the band think it is as they couldn't even sellout O2 Academy sized venues. KingOfMetal
Download stagetimes are now online. The Machine Head/Opeth clash I was dreading is happening, so got a decision to make there. Fear Factory get 35 minutes, Fozzy have 25 minutes, which hardly even seems worthwhile turning up for them
SteveJames
Machine Head at Bloodstock could go down very well with those going for the likes of Hatebreed, Corrosion Of Conformity etc. Personally, I do like Machine Head (aside from their nu metal nonsense) but as mentioned before, Bloodstock has always been seen as a viable alternative to the megabucks festivals like Download and Sonisphere and the fan loyalty is second to none. Europe headlined in 2009 and they were shit on before they even went on stage, their set in the end went down very well. Â Still reckon bands like Mercyful Fate, Manowar and even Megadeth are more well suited to a headline slot at Bloodstock but Machine Head have the opportunity to silence more than a few critics.
