Wow. A match for a title shot in the most crowded division in the company against a champ who's been in four of the most incredible, nail-biting matches of the last few years featuring two guys who between them have had more "...Of The Night" honours than almost any other pairing you could make in the company right now...and people think this is a bad]/i] thing for the UFC? Seriously? People are tuning in to Fox to see the UFC. The fans who are already fans know who Diaz and Miller are and will tell their mates to tune in. The people who don't will see the highlight reels and maybe have heard of Nick Diaz and will show interest in Nate. Other people who just turn the show on for the hell of it will see what will most likely be a CRAZY fight and will love it.

Seriously, name me ONE guy currently active in that company who can make an impact to mainstream TV ratings? The only one they had was maybe Brock, since wrasslin' fans who don't normally buy UFC PPVs might tune in to watch him on free TV. Otherwise, MMA stars are non-entities in the mainstream. The brand-building is what's important here. Putting on good fights between charismatic guys who are going on to bigger things on PPV is what matters, because NOBODY draws money in a way that makes them worth putting on free TV over putting them on PPV.

Also, can we all get it through our skulls - the Velasquez/JDS match was a ONE-OFF. Title matches draw money on PPV. The TV deal is not going to make the same kind of money. The worst part would be putting more title matches on TV so that people come to expect it and start to resent paying for them in future. Drawing a few big ratings on Fox is not worth killing the golden goose over.

My God do you learn nothing from history!? Look at the ratings for the show on FX, the shows on Spike! If it was all about the exciting fights then the would be the most popular fight group in the world. History shows that people watch in large volumes to see the stars. Kimbo Slice, Ken Shamrock helped draw massive numbers on network TV. When far talented fighters were on the mainstream (stepforward Dan Henderson) they drew some of the poorest ratings for a prime time show.

A great fight for these types of shows would be Evans Vs Jackson 2. If/when Evans loses to Bones then this is the type of fight they should stick on this show. 2 good personalitys who would help draw in the casual fan (there fight drew big on PPV so a re-match on Network TV should do a good number). I'm not against Diaz and Miller being on this show, but i still think that this is a risk too far at this time.

Lets just see what the rating is for this show when it ends.

Lets see what happens when the ratings come in shall we.

Great post, Kenny. The stuff about people expecting to get high profile title fights on free Tv is spot on too.

As they've both said, UFC and FOX are in this for the long haul, they've said countless times also it's not going to be an over night thing, it's about educating the people who don't watch MMA regularly and showing them what this 'UFC stuff' is. What better fight to show than this?

No Darlo I haven't seen anything on UK TV for Strikeforce. They better still show the GP final on Primetime though cos I bought the 4 event deal.

The Tate vs Rousey card is stacked top to bottom. Glad they're getting the prelims televised for that. Main event is probably the best women's fight they can make at the minute and the rest of the main card looks great on paper. Fodor/Healy and the Kaufman, Smith and Couture prelims could be good too. Tremendous card.

In other news Dana White has said Hendo is gonna sit out and wait for the title shot rather than take a fight in between. Decisions like this usually get criticized but I don't blame Hendo for this. At his age this is more than likely his last run at a title, taking time out to heal up properly and take the proper time to train for it is smart in his case imo. Plus there's really no fight that makes sense for him right now. This way at least we get Hendo vs Jones/Rashad. If Hendo won that I'd love to see him retire with the belt.

I can see why Hendo's made that decision. Hendo should get the winner.

Hope we get that Strikeforce event headlined by Tate vs. Rousey.

Thiago Silva vs Brandon Vera 2 is off due to an injury to Vera.

Shame cos there's unfinished business there. Who does everyone reckon Silva will fight now? When's Rich Franklin due back? Thiago Silva vs Shogun would be a great fight aswell.

Cool little story about TUF 1. Never heard this before, Bonnar was nearly kicked out of the house

Dana White

The three round war between Griffin and Bonnar is still widely considered one of the greatest fights ever, and truly the moment that the UFC hit the big stage.

Unbeknownst to most however is the fact that the fight very nearly didn
