Depends on what your perimeter of ‘Contempory Rock’ is.

I know it’s not the be all end all, but if you were to use Spotify Monthly Listeners as a barometer, as @Merzbow mentioned Ghost are big (9.3m), but Måneskin have more than double that (23.1m, which is 4m more than Black Sabbath to give some context). The majority of that id imagine is across mainland Europe (especially in their homeland of Italy) but last time they were over here they were playing the arenas.

Bad Omens (6.9m) and Shinedown (8.5m) are both pretty popular, while Bring Me The Horizon are probably the biggest UK act (13.6m), and Sleep Token (5m) have had a big couple of years in terms of growth

The 1975? They have 22.4m. Previous Glastonbury headliners as well.

Correct. Or Arctic Monkeys.

Absolutely, they’re got more than everyone we’ve just mentioned (57.1m), but would they be classed as a heritage act now? I wouldn’t say so necessarily but some might, it all depends on how you’re defining Contemporary Rock. There’s probably people who call Coldplay Contemporary Rock

If anyone has a ShowFilmFirst account check you emails for a fiver ticket to see Despised Icon, Carnifex & Suffocation. I wasn't going as it was usually 30 quid butI'm guessing sales are so low they're giving them away.

U2 have announced a World tour including two nights at Tottenham. https://discover.ticketmaster.co.uk/music/u2-announce-uk-shows-for-2027-world-tour-81601/

I have to go, and am dreading the prices.

I remember buying my dad tickets for U2 about 20 years ago and thinking "these cunts are taking the fucking piss with these prices".

Probably insanely cheap compared to whatever these will be.

The only saving grace is a mate has said he'll buy them and I can pay him back in installments, so I'll be Stuck In An Owing, I Can't Get Out Of (sorry)

Also the stage set up shows no front and back standing, which on one hand is a good thing, but on the other means the GA standing will probably be even more. I reckon standing is 150-175 ffs, but I've always said them, REM and Fleetwood Mac are the three I'd just hold my nose and pay.

Where The Streets Have No Kane (again, sorry)

Can't believe they want £41.25 for a single ticket. Gig tickets are becoming a joke. When I was younger I went to see sounds of the underground (Chimaria, Madball, Unearth, Terror, All That Remains and Manntis) for £18.

The most expensive gig i went to was Slayer, In Flames, Lamb Of God, Children Of Bodom and Thine Eyes bleed but that was only £28

SCORPIONS have announced an arena tour for next summer.

I am a huge fan of 80s Scorpions. Blackout, Love at First Sting etc. Just fantastic stuff.

I used to have 2x badges on my jacket as a much younger man. Scorpions and Manowar. FORM A QUEUE LADIES.

Black armbands on for this one, and especially for @BomberPat who I believe used to DJ there, but Spiders Nightclub in Hull is no more.

If you were a mosher at the turn of the century, you were there every week without fail.
£3 if you were a Member, £3.50 if you weren’t (not that they ever checked, they just took your word for it), the cheapest drinks imaginable (you try getting a chocolate milk with brandy for £1.20 in 2026), you’d hear the best tunes of the time (and some absolute shockers as well) which you’d have written out your requests on a piece of paper in advance, and you’d top it all off with a trip to Millie’s Mobile Muncher at the end of the night for some questionable Chips & Gravy before stumbling home.
Truly the end of an era and a cornerstone of many peoples Salad Days
So long Spiders, we’ll always love you

I never played Spiders, but I have a lot of affection for it as my baseline for what a rock/alternative club was, and for many daft nights out there every time I went back to Hull. And, obviously, for being able to get a pint for under two quid. My older brother went there as a teenager some 30+ years ago, and the prices must have barely crept up in all that time.
