He's starting to look like Hugh Dennis' geared-up brother there.

 

Still, the guy's amazing - bad-ass polymath who's been in the Swedish special forces, holds various degrees in scientific discipline, speaks several languages AND stars in some of the most iconic films of all time? Awesome stuff. The fact that he almost single-handedly rescues Universal Soldier is a lifetime achievement in itself.

 

The man is wonderful but i'm pretty sure that bit in bold isnt true.

 

 

Checking Wikipedia, says he served a mandatory one year in the Swedish Marine Corp at the Amphibious Ranger School. In itself, I guess it's not all that impressive if Sweden has conscription, but still noteworthy, I think.

Am I right in thinking that if I'm new to Marvel comics I may as well just completely skip secret wars and wait until it's all over?

 

My library has a lot of trades I'm going to read through anyway but are there any current runs that aren't ending and that I might have a shot at understanding or should I just wait until after secret wars is all over?

Reading some Marvel stuff the two things I'd say are:

 

1. Read the recent Deadpool stuff. Starting with Dead Presidents and ending with The Death of Deadpool. They really created something that was gripping, creative and genuinely moving in parts.

 

2. I hate the concept of Axis. I really felt it was arse about face considering what Marvel was based on. I'll put the next bit in spoilers:

Axis basically revolves around an effort to stop Red Onslaught results in a spell being cast and the people born bad turn good and the good people turned bad. Considering the best characters/villains in  Marvel have all blurred that line i.e. Magneto will do awful things because he lived through a huge atrocity and wishes to protect his 'people'. This concept was fucking stupid too. Dr Doom turns good and decides to 'liberate' Latervia, even though communists aren't inherently evil. And Havok turns evil but Cyclops doesn't change despite standing next to each other.

Where's the best place to order comics online? With reasonable p&p? I want the first two issues of Jupiter's Circle but the postage on Amazon is more than the comic, I'm working 6 days a week at the moment so don't have chance to get into town to pick them up

If we're going Acronyms, then to honour his status as many an 80s/90s action movie bad guy it should be the Marine Amphibian Ranger School. Just screams evil organisation worthy of Arnie's destruction.

I didn't see this mentioned, but Frank Miller is doing another Batman story arch.

Entitled The Dark Knight III: The Master Race, it comes out in the later part of this year and is an eight issue story. Hopefully this is Miller proving that he isn't a complete head case after putting out Holy Terror.

Oh God, I don't want another Dark Knight from Miller.

 

Dark Knight Returns was so brilliant on so many levels, but Strikes Back was an absolute mess. Wasn't even a Batman story, it was a pretty poor Superman book. After ASBAR and Holy Terror I've pretty much written off Miller. 

 

Hopefully it'll be good, but after Strikes Back I can't help but doubt it. But do read the original Dark Knight Returns, still fantastic.

Hey everyone, bit of a bump here but looking for some advice. I've recently started wanting to get into Batman comics. The only comic I've ever read is The Walking Dead, but having recently ploughed through Arkham Asylum, Arkham City and now playing Arkham Knight, I've wanted to go and read a bit more about these characters.

 

I've heard stuff like "The Killing Joke" and "Long Halloween" are great reading. What would be a good jumping off point for a new reader? I don't really want to go all the way back to 1939 and start from issue one, unless I really have to.

 

Also, if someone could explain how the comics work, are they all one big continuation since issue one? Or have they been rebooted several times since then?
