  1. Mammoth I like Mike Bubbins. He's very funny on The Socially Distant Sports pod (even if he's often quite arrogant in how he comes across) and the concept for this show is silly and fun. PE teacher in the 70s gets caught in an avalanche, frozen and thawed out in 2024. There's mileage in that, fish out of water type stuff, and I usually enjoy that. Unfortunately Bubbins is a dreadful actor which massively hampers this, and he'd have been better off allowing someone else to play the title character, but it's obviously just an excuse for him to live out his 70s costume fantasies. I did dread that this would just be an excuse for lots of thinly veiled "can't say that these days" type stuff, but there wasn't as much of that as I thought there would be (he does meet a vegan hippy type woman and they go on a "retreat" which was really shit) but the issue is his bloody acting. He's played it like David Brent, but we've already seen the best version of that character 20 years ago. Geoffrey from Fresh Prince turns up, that's the highlight to be honest. Hugely disappointing. Only 3 episodes as well which is quite weird.
  2. That's our Ashley, I said that's our Ashley!
  3. Seeing the sea cheers me up. I work in a small team and we all work from home, so we have a monthly-ish meet up, where we have our work chat for an hour and then go for a walk with the dogs. It amazes me when other teams find out about this and go "Wish we could do that" You can! It's easy! And encouraged! Sometimes a nice country park or trail, but today was the beach. Apparently that's the Isle Of Wight, which I didn't realise was so close. Could swim that. Well I couldn't as I can't swim. Quality cargo ship action as well. Had a spiced cauliflower, chickpea, onion bhaji pasty as well, came home, played football with the 11yo and nutmegged her 5 times. Quality day.
  4. Same, but the group is just me, and the films are daily Would watch. I'm still wondering what was in that sandwich.

I reckon you mention your girlfriend every other post. She definitely doesn't exist.
  7. My favourite is them saying all rounds will be played on weekends (good) and then this being their definition of a weekend. Nobs.
  8. I think Sonny lifting the Premier League trophy in this will look great. Very "Michael Carrick looking near death after shitting his guts out all night because of Lasagna" vibes.
  9. Was in the USA September 98, and despite loving most sports, had zero interest in baseball until I saw Mark McGwire and Sammy Sosa on the news and as someone interested in stats and records, became obsessed with the home run chase. Bought all the papers daily, clipped them all, all the SI, ESPN mags etc. Was a genuine thrill to witness it being broken live as I made sure everywhere we ate showed sports and that was that, Cards "for life" In reality I don't follow them at all, but I do enjoy baseball, and more importantly, reading about baseball, which I believe lends itself to some of the finest sports journalism.
  10. *sprints back to the thread* MATTHEW WAS A LANDLORD!!! BASTAAAAAAAAAARD!!!

Did anyone hear actually read the books as a kid? Its absolutely fine for us to all go "Yeah they were shit! Badly drawn characters and rubbish dialogue!" which I do actually agree with, but then I didn't read them as a child, and love them as a child. My actual children did though. Big difference that. And I'm not saying kids should only accept silly/base/badly written/made/filmed things, but we do often forget we've only ever looked at these things through adult eyes. I loved Biff and Kipper when I was a kid. I'm sure they're not the height of literature. Disgusted at myself for adding to fucking HARRY POTTER discussion. Piss off, all of you.
  13. One for the "shit made up bands thread", Proactive!
  14. Yeah that definitely adds a good layer to it. Like I say, I like them both, but second Matt edges it. Chaplin "performing" with the band is always brilliant, and Stukes work with Jason in the second series was great. When it cuts to him in the park in his full American football gear, I lost it. Also, never realised the flat was supposedly in Battersea. Not sure where I thought it was though.
