Have been on a FTC since September 2022. This has constantly been extended and last time was December until September 2024. Then a few months ago it was announced, like most other branches of local government, our directorate would be under review as approximately 400 trillion or something needs to be saved. Not enough jobs under the new structure at my grade (4 into 3 basically) and applications for VR etc available, but as a FTC under 2 years, not eligible for that or even compulsory redundancy so was panicking slightly. Anyway, big consultation happened for a few months and I was ringfenced for a new position but still had to take part in the competitive interview process which was shit, as you're up against colleagues and people you generally like and want to see also get a job. Anyway, smashed the interview and got given a permanent contract today. Boom. The biggest thing for me is I can now do an apprenticeship through work, which I've wanted to do since I joined but couldn't as FTC can't be a shorter length than the course duration. And I can also now deliver projects that I've devised and developed over the last couple of months. I was also told that I was fractionally away from being given a grade above, which is a real confidence booster. First thing I did knowing I now have a bit more permanence? Renewed the Spurs membership for me and 11yo. What an absolute idiot. Have a good day all!
