I wavered too, but it was bad in the end, even if it was accidental. If it had worked, you’re right - Kingston running down to protect his pal would have been considered an all-time great angle for AEW, but unfortunately it wasn’t to be. Given that it failed, the fact they didn’t improvise and get up makes it look a bit daft - although in the heat of the moment I totally understand why they didn’t, they wouldn’t necessarily have known how pathetic it looked. But my logic is, bad by accident is still bad - made worse by the fact we missed out on something brilliant.

The best thing they did was acknowledge on the next Dynamite how silly it was and Kingston reacted as such due to PTSD. I mean they could have ignored it but fair play.

The most annoying thing about this was the week before, they had the perfect out - they had Moxley cut a promo on Regal telling him to run and never come back, or something along those lines. If they'd had Regal never show up again it would've put Mox over as someone that Regal feared so much he fucked off to another company so as not to see him. But instead they did this kind of baffling 'haha, I betrayed you for your own good, I'm off by the way!' esque promo that didn't achieve anything or put anyone over. Really one of the weirdest things they've ever done.

Didn't they also have Don Callis claim he had rigged the bombs to basically be duds to ensure Omega wouldn't get hurt or something like that? I thought that was a great save in the end actually but then I didn't pay for the PPV.

I think they went with "Don Callis was such a cheapskate he bought shitty bombs".

It's such a shame, because the match before that point was great, it was something that hadn't been done in American wrestling before, and I remember watching it thinking I really wanted the T-shirt of the match. The ending angle would have been perfect if they had pulled it off, so I think it's unfair to keep it in the running for "worst wrestling angle" when it was the execution rather than the intent that made it suffer. They should have just taken Atsushi Onita up on his offer to rig up the explosives for them. 

I think if it happened in AEW today, they would be more savvy about calling an audible in the moment and trying to salvage something, rather than letting it go on and having to try and excuse it after the fact. I do wonder if they will ever attempt that stipulation again to try and redeem it, though I expect that if they intended to it would have happened by now.
