Paid Members garynysmon Posted February 27 Paid Members Posted February 27 (edited) Here’s one to start. Back in the late 90’s, I was convinced that Terri Runnels looked old and must be in her late 40’s. I always used to think “she’s a bit old to be doing the horny little she-devil stuff” and that it was cringe as fuck. I just checked now and she was about 32… Edited February 27 by garynysmon Quote
Ro_y Disco Posted February 27 Posted February 27 Terri was my guilty teenage crush as she was "so old". Meanwhile, Debra seemed as old as my mum so it was totally gross to even find her attractive. Speaking of random musings, my dad once claimed to catch some wrestling on the telly where there was a woman "completely naked". It will probably have been Heat on C4 and I assume Terri in a skin coloured outfit, but he was convinced she was naked. Quote
Paid Members air_raid Posted February 27 Paid Members Posted February 27 I used to be convinced that WWE would hire Tessmacher back and make her a massive star. T-shirts, mouse mats, duvet covers, anything you could print her arse likeness on, they'd sell. Never happened, obviously. Quote

Her, Debra, Jacqueline, Ivory, Luna...they all looked pretty *ahem* mature. It's no surprise they were phased out so quickly once Lita and Trish turned up. Quote

She became pretty good, if I remember rightly. I’m kind of surprised she didn’t end up back in WWE. If she’d arrived on the scene even five years later than she did, perhaps that would have happened. Paid Members JLM Posted February 27 Paid Members Posted February 27 Mentioned this before but my mum forever remains convinced that The Undertaker has been played by several different “actors.” I’ve tried to show pictures from different eras of what is clearly the same bloke looking increasingly old and knackered, but she won’t have it. Gives me the condescending “ok” with a half smile like I still think it’s all real. A guy at my school was adamant ECW was real also. WCW and WWF were that fake stuff but ECW was all real. We were about 15-16 at the time. A few of us at school tried to explain that it was more violent and their wrestlers were given more free rein to do mad stuff, but it was still very much pre-determined. He wouldn’t have it. I hope he still believes. Quote
King Mal the Glorious Posted February 27 Posted February 27 My parents believed both of the above separately. My mam was convinced there were several Undertakers and my dad was certain ECW was real because they had swearing and a guy smoked tabs. Quote

Popular at my youth club was "Narcissist Lex Luger came out of the sky in a plane, powerslammed Yokozuna and pinned him and now he's the WWF Champion." Quote
Paid Members LaGoosh Posted February 27 Paid Members Posted February 27 The Undertaker "different actors" and ECW being real things were at my school too. Weird how stuff like that spreads. Like every school in the UK hearing the rumour that Kel from Kenan and Kel was dead. Quote

"I only threw the chair at him because I thought he'd catch it sir!" Quote

Randomly there was a rumour going around our school Yokozuna had died (he hadn't) then he did about 6 months later. But yes i was convinced ECW was real, 13 year old me thought it was the only explanation why the ecw wrestlers were in ecw and not wwf or wcw (They wanted to do real fighting), no doubt looking back i was getting the ideology mixed up with the upstart promotion called UFC... Paid Members JLM Posted February 27 Paid Members Posted February 27 Oh god, a similarly morbid one. I have one friend who used to watch in the Attitude era days and likes to reminisce and re-watch that stuff from time to time. He knows I'm a big nerd about it, so he likes to pick my brain about who's a turd in real life, who's still alive etc. We ended up watching an old PPV with Viscera on the undercard and he went "OK that guy has SURELY died young hasn't he?" I said no and mentioned he had runs after this later on, was Big Daddy V. Showed him a Big Daddy V squash on Youtube. Then the VERY NEXT DAY Nelson Frazier died. Insane coincidence. He still says "I still can't believe I killed Viscera" from time to time. Quote
rollthedice Posted February 27 Posted February 27 (edited) I would take my copy of Power Slam in to school and show everyone how real wrestling is. I vaguely remember a review of a death match between Ian and Axl Rotten and me telling everyone "see he's dead, it's real" There was a picture of Taz walking out at an ECW show and I thought he was really walking through a brick wall and told everyone that. This reminds me of A Cruel Twist Of Fate when D'Lo shouted "THIS is for Eddy Guerrero" right before going to do a suplex (we think Three Amigos but will never know as SJK rolled him up) - me and my mate looked at each other and said "Has Eddy died???" That was 1st October, Eddy died 13th November. Quote
