He does deserve some kudos though. Im not correcting it. I don't get why at the point when they had James and Amol stating their cases James's argument of "I don't actually want to be a traitor" is a better argument for making him a traitor than Amol's "I'll try and get the heat off you, Richard" which was when I started wondering whether certain things on the show were influenced by the producers. Maybe not during the non-celebrity show, but with a view to "these are the ones we'd like to keep on the show because they'd provide better entertainment" when it comes to picking victims. I did read a nice article that says Maya donated what would have been her share of the prize money to her charity of choice from her own pocket. Edited Monday at 11:19 AM by Jazzy G Quote

I imagine he didn't really think about the consequences of his perfume comment. He may well have meant that this wasn't actually how he murdered Ross Kemp, which is true. I'm not convinced by the idea that it was him throwing Maya and Kenny under the bus, even if that comment is what doomed them. Absolutely, I was surprised at the amount of discourse about the perfume comment, when it happened it seemed like another example of him trying to "play the game like a faithful" and not lying. Given the stress it was apparently causing him, I can't see him being malicious and throwing anyone under the bus on purpose. Quote
Paid Members Chris B Posted Monday at 01:28 PM Paid Members Posted Monday at 01:28 PM I think the Acaster stuff has been somewhat overblown - I know it's been talked about elsewhere as if he had a bit of a breakdown and screwed everything up, when I think it's more likely that he just screwed up a bit on something he said, and they refilmed a bit to cover. It's also possible that they paused after he acknowledged being a traitor to figure out how to proceed. I may be missing something, but I've not seen anything around panic attacks etc outside of speculation - all that I've seen is that filming was paused. I've seen some stuff about the show's counsellors checking in on people, and that kind of thing is important in a pressured environment like this. But some of the 'I don't know why he agreed to take part if he couldn't handle it' or 'he ruined the show' responses I've seen online seem really overblown. Personally, him acknowledging it and the way he did were one of the best bits of the second half of the series (along with James Blunt absolutely fucking the final in the most hilarious way). And if he did screw up and unintentionally out someone, that's part of the game. People make mistakes, people get caught out. If neither of those things had happened, this would have felt like the most bland and vanilla possible follow-up to the last series. Quote
Paid Members Chilly McFreeze Posted Monday at 01:37 PM Paid Members Posted Monday at 01:37 PM Having seen the way Acaster masterfully turned his GBBO experience into a sublime stand up set, can't shake the feeling that he joined knowing he wouldn't cope and that this will all be fodder for his next show. Paid Members Jazzy G Posted Monday at 04:50 PM Paid Members Posted Monday at 04:50 PM (edited) People had started suspecting Mays around the same time as they'd been suspecting James for similar reasons. I think the reason it's maybe been overdone is because on the day when pretty much every other newspaper was leading with Patrick Stewart's passing a certain red topped rag had James Acaster front and centre and was leading with what had happened on Traitors the night before. Edit. Here's a piece from the Liverpool Echo where James Acaster explains what happened. https://www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/news/tv/celebrity-traitors-james-acaster-speaks-34851053 Edited Monday at 05:36 PM by Jazzy G Quote

That was absolutely fantastic. I want to see more of James Blunt on TV, he was very enjoyable to watch. Quote

westlondonmist Posted Monday at 08:02 PM Posted Monday at 08:02 PM Kind of feel the producers felt oh Richard E Grant as a traitor will be entertaining and that was their plan and it went tits up. Kind of feel he would have gone quickly anyway. Maybe their other plan was stick Hannah Fry in and the over 35 men watch. But overall feel the balance was wrong and nobody really caused a stir. Quote
