Hangman/Jay White is on the surface a perfectly ok midcard feud but it's a massive waste of Hangman. After All Out they should have had a big story planned for him. He felt like such a big deal and a potential game changer for them. This stuff is pure treading water and all that momentum is gone. I think I've been feeling a bit down on AEW recently because of that general feeling of whenever something good or exciting happens just knowing that they are highly unlikely to capitalise on it and will likely squander it. For all the great stuff that happens every week it's equally as disheartening when you see so much potential being wasted every week too.

This definitely sums up how I feel about AEW on a regular basis and I hate repeating it like a broken record but it's one of their weak points for sure.

I don't know if it's the inability to capitalise on something or an unwillingness to deviate from 'the plan' .. actually I don't get that feeling on the latter compared to what WWE used to be like a lot of the time, but it's still an ultimate form of frustration. It's like someone teasing you and not letting you finish. Can be fun sometimes but eventually..

They say that having too much good talent is a good problem to have, and it is to a point, but there's definitely some issues with it too.

But yeah, overall the show was fine. Wasn't the best effort from AEW or NXT this week but decent enough.

I think it's more likely that for a lot of stuff there isn't a plan! After the Swerve stuff finished it hasn't really felt like there's a long term plan for Hangman.

It's a shame that MJF turned back into a boring as fuck heel. A babyface MJF versus a deranged heel Hangman might have been an interesting story to tell. Or Hangman against under-dog Daniel Garcia would have been a good way to go.

I was so chuffed to hear the pop for Hobbs, and I'm hoping he gets a real run now. He feels like the kind of guy that could slot in against the Deathriders soon.

I know this isn't new information, but I love how much they protect Takeshita in matches. He always comes across as a class above and like an absolute monster. I'm glad he's got a belt on him, but I'd like him to do the anti-orange cassidy run. Face people every week and just get stronger and stronger with every win until presumably his hair turns white.

I'm not too worried about ol' Hanger. He's having a breather after the Swerve feud, and his deranged beatings need to take a sideline to Moxley's calculated beatings for now. Get him in the continental classic after rebuilding Jay White, who lets face it, desperately needs it.

They do a LOT of stop/starts with people though. I have no doubt whatever Hangman does, whenever it is, he'll be absolutely successful at it and it'll be great. It's just what he does. It's just a shame they often build people up to be red hot and then not capitalise. Sometimes you don't need breathers.

Exactly this. Momentum is a hard thing to capture. Leading into and coming out All Out Hangman felt like he was on a big run and ready to break out into something truly special. You have to strike while the iron is hot. Slowing down and going to a standard mid-card feud is not it. And it's incredibly difficult to heat someone back up again and it's unlikely they'll get back to that level. Your top stars should never have breathers.

It’s the major historical event of the week. It’s all anyone is talking about. It’s the Adam Cole Spray Tan Update!

Check out his exposed knee. Not only is he applying his fake tan after putting his gear on, which seems mental, but this confirms he’s choosing to look jaundice. Someone needs to stage an intervention and make him choose a better shade.

Come on, Adam. This is not what Bret means when he brags about being a Simpsons character!

Snide giffing aside, there's only so many focal points the show can have, and they have bigger fish to fry right now. We can't complain about what heat and heel heavy company it is and then say that this big heel isn't getting enough tv time.  If he ends up doing nothing when the C2 kicks off, then I think this point has more value, but for now Hangman is feuding with a guy who's been presented as a main eventer and is giving him the rub. AEW needs top level babyfaces at the moment, so using Hangman for that is absolutely fine.

The actual issue with that feud is that it's 3/4 on 1, advantage babyfaces, so I wonder if Hanger finds some friends.

We'll have to agree to disagree on this one but it's definitely one of my main issues with AEW. There's always something else. There's always someone else they can focus on. And I get that - big roster, lots of stars, etc etc etc. BUT sometimes you hit the jackpot. Sometimes you've found something really fucking good that people love and they're talking about and sure, maybe it's not part of the bigger plan or whatever, but you then run the risk of letting it cool down again and not capitalising on all the great work everyone has done. And personally I think Hangman deserves better. But again, we're all different.

Well yeah that's my point really. Hangman should always be a focal point, should be in the biggest stories, and he should always be one of the biggest fish. The company should be built around him as a one of if not the top act. They've got 5 hours of TV per week so it's not like they're short of time with him. If there's no room on Dynamite have him be the King of Collision for a few months. There's plenty of options where they could have kept his momentum going but instead he's....having a breather.

I do get the "he'll be fine, we'll heat him up again" attitude to a point, as the best talents usually can work like that, but it's also a risky assumption because it can easily create an image of being that 'almost' person and losing the crowd's support because they don't believe the trigger will ever be pulled properly.

It’s the beauty of weekly episodic pro-wrestling. Something can catch on that you never would have expected and you can immediately pivot and push it.

And that, my friends, is why Dynamite and Collision needs approximately 300% more MXM.

Looking forward to next week when Malaki Black comes out with his arm in a cast and sling and says he won't be wrestling for a while, then goes on X and complains that everyone's saying he has a broken arm.

For years people have complained "why isn't Tony Khan booking Malakai Black in singles matches?" with even the man himself publicly saying he doesn't know why. I don't think it's a big mystery really - Malakai Black is rubbish at singles matches.

Book ending the show with two strong tag matches was really good and more interesting multi man matches with stories behind them are needed on Dynamite. They're a great way to a) have good TV matches, b) showcase multiple people and stories in one segment and c) build up PPV singles matches. Regular booking like this will go a long way.

And they're doing just that! This is exactly what they should be putting on Dynamite. This'll be a cracker. A Hangman/Christian evil alliance would be a fun short term story, actually.
