Had nearly zero interest in the winter Olympics (very much the nwo b team event) until I read about this.

https://www.theguardian.com/sport/2026/feb/05/penis-injection-doping-claims-in-winter-olympics-ski-jumping-investigated-by-wada

I wonder what other athletes are injecting things in to their willys.

Anyway all kicks off properly tomorrow, some on the beeb, but full coverage on Discovery/TNT.

New sport 'skimo' sounds shit to be honest...

...but, there is a Jamaican bobsled team!

Downhill skier Lindsay Vonn tore her ACL nine days ago, was cleared to compete and has just crashed out in spectacular fashion and been airlifted to hospital.

How on earth did they allow her to compete? I am absolutely amazed to be honest, that's negligence of the highest order.

She shouldn't have competed, but the IOC shouldn't have allowed her to. Madness.

The TV director needs to have a word with themselves too.  They kept cutting to the camera showing the medical crew attending to her with the mic being on and you could hear her screaming in pain.  Doing it once is an oversight, doing it a few times is being a prick.  Keep it on a crowd shot or show some earlier runs.

Then, to add insult to literal injury they replayed her crash over and over.  Why?  Play count the breaks? That's the ankle gone, that's the tibia shattered, that's the pelvis gone on the 12th rotation, left hip on that bounce.  Really fucking grim and in poor taste.  Even the commentator said something to the effect of "I'm not sure we really need to see this replayed again."

My mate did text me "Breezy Johson" sounds like a Bob Mortimer cat name which did raise the spirits some.

Absolutely. I'm not sure what the BBC could've done there as its coming from an international feed, but they could've cut the audio and picture I suppose.

It's made me really angry, just how negligent it all is. I read some absolute horseshit article that said "well its downhill skiing, technically you could ski with a torn ACL" Get fucked.

I worked on the media side of things at London 2012 and to be honest the IOC are ridiculous with how they go about things. Basically if you agree to broadcast the Olympics (after a hefty fee is paid...) then you broadcast whatever they provide for you from the Olympic Broadcast Team (forget the exact name) irrespective of how graphic or pointless it may seem.

To be fair though, the BBC are showing the crash on the website but not in close up or with the sounds of pain ringing out.

Give her her due though, shes been desperate for this one and to win one more gold but sometimes you do have to say 'I know its hard, but sorry to say you're not fit enough this time around'

Hope she makes a full and proper recovery. One of the few people from winter sports that's become a mainstream name

After such a hiatus I can understand that competitive nature may have taken over, and apparently there something about this particular course that she wanted to compete, but someone on that medical team really should’ve made the call for her to not go to the games.

Just astounding decision making to let her compete. Someone should have been in her ear as soon as she was injured to just advise her about risking permanent long term injury outside of competition and considering how hard her left leg hit the slope, I worry that now may be a possible case.

Yeah, I get the "wow she's amazing/brave/whatever!" deal but at the same time surely you've just got to be sensible sometimes? Genuinely surprised that she was even allowed to.

I'm guessing it's the same TV directors who do MotoGP where a rider will have a crash and they will keep playing replays of it while the rider is been tended to in the gravel by a doctor. Absolutely no need for it.

As for Vonn not been allowed to race. I'd imagine there is a minimum fitness yest that you have to meet before they let you on the course. For her she came back from 5 years of retirement with the specific goal of competing in the Olympics. There is no next time for her in ski racing. I fully understand why she risked it.

So do I, even if I think she's an absolute idiot for doing so (I've done the same thing twice)

I just don't know how she could've been cleared with an injury like that. It's baffling.

Your dreams of Olympic glory got dashed twice?

First time I was in electric form in the Hampton 6 a side Monday night leagues and scoring for fun (actually reminded of it on Facebook recently, enjoy!)

Second time I was leading the line for a top of the table Terriers in the Wednesday Walton-on-Thames 6 a side league, my ex was 7 months pregnant at the time so was VERY unhappy with me.

Every day is painful but the memory of scoring 4 goals for a social housing provider past a team of estate agents keeps me going.
