Paid Members wandshogun09 Posted June 9, 2021 Paid Members Share Posted June 9, 2021 (edited) Nearly overlooked this one but itās going down in just a couple of weeks at the APEX in Las Vegas. ESPN+ MAIN CARDCiryl Gane vs Alexander Volkov Ovince Saint Preux vs Tanner Boser Raoni Barcelos vs Timur Valiev Andre Fili vs Daniel PinedaĀ Nicolas Dalby vs Tim Means Renato Moicano vs Jai HerbertĀ ESPN+/FIGHT PASS PRELIMSDanilo Marques vs Kennedy Nzechukwu Michel Prazeres vs Shavkat RakhmonovĀ Warlley Alves vs Jeremiah Wells Marcin Prachnio vs Ike Villanueva Julia Avila vs Julija Stoliarenko Charles Rosa vs Justin Jaynes Yancy Medeiros vs Damir Hadzovic Ā Doubt thatās the final order. As we all know by now, that changes right up until the day of. Not a bad card but itās lacking something for me. Thereās fighters I love watching on there so Iām interested in those matchups but the card is missing that one killer fight, in my opinion. Itāll do though. And 264 is a fortnight laterĀ so Iām sure weāll cope. Ā Ciryl Gane vs Alexander Volkov tops the bill. Whatās this? A good fight at Heavyweight? I really like this matchup actually. Big fan of Gane. I think heās the most promising new Heavyweight in the game. I know thatās a shallow pool but heās probably the main real glimmer of hope for the divisionās future, in my opinion. And this is a logical next step and probably his toughest test to date. Gane The Man. Heās 31 years old from Paris, France. Former undefeated KickboxerĀ at 7-0Ā with 5 knockouts. Currently undefeated in MMAĀ at 8-0Ā with 6 finishes. And for a guy who comes from a striking background, heās proven to be far from a one trick pony in MMA. 3 of his 6 finishes were by submission, including one by heel hook of all things! You donāt typically see that out of 6ā5ā French Kickboxers. Heās also deceptively quick and uses good movement for a man of his size. And heās starting to climb now. He had trouble finding opponents last year and it kind of forced the UFC to step him up earlier than they probably planned to. Itās worked out so far though. He bashed Junior Dos Santos in December and jabbed Jairzinho Rozenstruikās face off for 25 minutes in his first UFC main event in February. He got a lot of criticism for that performance. It wasnāt the most exciting fight but whatever. Heās still a work in progress and the fact he went 5 rounds with a seasoned and lethal striker like Rozenstruik, won every round and came out without a scratch on him was pretty fucking impressive in my book. If heād stood and just traded bombs with Rozey and got decked, the same people criticising him would still be criticising him for being reckless. Fuck them. Ganeās ace and I think thereās better to come. Volkovās nobody to overlook though and I wouldnāt be shocked if he derailed Ganeās rise. I donāt rate him as one of the top HWs but heās no bum and on a good night he can beat a lot of guys. Especially in that madhouse of a division where the margins for error are so small. He put Alistair Overeem away in February in what, for me, was easily the best performance of his career to date. So heāll be coming in confident and fancying the job here. I could be way off here but I think Ganeās got the tools to pass this test. You just never know with the Heavies though and Iāve still got that nagging feeling that theyāre moving Gane along just a tad too quickly. Weāll see how this goes. You canāt count on anything in Heavyweight MMA. I hope Gane gets it done though. Ā Ovince Saint Preux vs Tanner Boser appears to be the co-main event. Bit of a patch up job but a decent fight. OSP was meant to face Maxim Grishin but Visa issues cocked that one up. This is a slight improvement for me. OSPās a guy whoās grown on me over the years. Wasnāt keen on him for a bit and him clobbering Shogun in about 30 seconds in Brazil that time didnāt help. But I grew to appreciate the big lump over time. Headkicking Corey Anderson into oblivion, all those cool Von Flue finishes. Heās winding down now though. 38 years old, lost 4 of his last 6 etc. Still dangerous at times, as his KO over Alonzo Menifield last June showed. But it seems like the sand timer is running out on his career. Boser steps in on just over a weekās notice but he just fought a couple of weeks ago. Lost a split decision to Ilir Latifi that I had him winning. He lost on points to Arlovski before that as well. He could really do without a third straight loss here. Iām not sure about this for OSP though. Just got a feeling itās pretty much over and, despite a couple of recent losses, Boserās younger, fresher, fairly quick for a big guy. This fight will be at Heavyweight as well. The original Grishin fight was at 205. OSP didnāt do well last time he went up to HW and lost to Ben Rothwell. Weāll see. Ā Raoni Barcelos vs Timur Valiev. Good enough fight but Iām a little bit underwhelmed by it, to be honest. Barcelos is a guy whoās been sneaking up on everyone for a while now in the constantly improving Bantamweight division. Heās 16-1 with 10 finishes and has won 9 in a row now. Looks the business as well. There he is giving poor Khalid Taha both barrels in his last fight in November. Battered him. It was a really exciting fight but more a case of Barcelos dishing out a sustained beating and Taha just soaking it up and refusing to drop rather than anything really competitive or back and forth. As far as one sided fights go though, it was about as entertaining as it gets. Heās been on the rise for a while and after this performance, it felt like he might finally be about to break through. But itās stalled since. He was linked to a fight in December against Merab Dvalishvili but had to pull out. Then he was booked against Raphael Assunção in February but Assunção pulled out. Then Marcelo Rojo stepped in and Barcelos tested positive for COVID. Just the worst run of luck. Hopefully this fight goes ahead. Like I said, not in love with the matchmaking just because it felt like Barcelos was ready for that step up against an established name (like the Assunção fight wouldāve been) on a main card. Valiev isnāt a bad fighter but it just seems like a big step sideways for Barcelos. Doesnāt really advance his status in the division. Oh well. Iāll just be glad to see him back in there. Valiev from Dagestan, 17-2-0-1 and coming off a win over Martin Day. He also beat Trevin Jones in his UFC debut but it got changed to a No Contest after Valiev flunked the weed test. Heās one of those guys whoās a bit of an unknown at the moment. Maybe heās a stiffer test for Barcelos than anyone knows. But if Barcelos wins this one, I hope they crack on with something a bit juicier next time. Not saying heās a future champ or anything but I think itās time to see him tested against a player in the division, so we can properly see what heās got. Ā Andre Fili vs Daniel Pineda got added fairly late in the day. Good fight actually. Neither are really troubling the contenders at 145 but itās a nice little matchup all the same. At one time Fili was being talked about as one of the hottest prospects in the sport but itās never caught fire. I think it was Team Alpha Male hyping him up more than anything but it fizzled out quite quickly. Heās not a bad fighter at all, just not the force Faber and co were selling him as a few years back. Heās 21-8 now and comes in off a decision loss to Bryce Mitchell in October. Heās also lost to Max Holloway, Yair Rodriguez, Calvin Kattar and Sodiq Yusuff over the years. Basically if youāre top level or a real prospect, youāre likely beating Fili. But heās tough and comes to scrap so I can see this being fun because from what Iāve seen, Pinedaās the same way. Heās had even more of an up and down career, record currently stands at 27-14-2. But heās knocked about and fought pretty much everywhere. He did batter and TKO Herbert Burns last summer as well, and Burns had been on a bit of a streak prior. So yeah, these two certainly arenāt going to be having Volkanovski waking up in a cold sweat but paired up with each other, it could be good. Ā Nicolas Dalby vs Tim Means. OK then. Right fuck about here. This one has had to be completely cobbled together from the remains of two scrapped fights. Dalby was supposed to fight Sergey Khandozhko on this card but the Russian dropped out injured. Means was all set to fight Danny Roberts on the Zombie vs Ige card a week earlier but COVID took Roberts out. Fair play to both for going ahead and fighting different opponents on such short notice. Could be a good one as well. Dalbyās been a bit hit and miss in the UFC but I generally enjoy watching him. Heās 19-3-1-2, former Cage Warriors champion, BJJ brown-belt and comes into this fight off a points win over Daniel Rodriguez, who had been on a 9 fight streak going in. Dalbyās no pushover. I still remember that cracking fight he had with Darren Till, early in Tillās UFC run, that went to a draw. And that bloodbath with Ross Houston in Cage Warriors that had to be stopped because the canvas was just caked in blood. And Means is a tough veteran and a bit underrated, I think. Heās never been able to put a consistent run together but, on a good night heās got the tools to give a lot of guys problems. Heās 31-12-1-1 now. 37 years old. Heās been around the block a few times. Maybe thatās why his nickname is the āDirty Birdā. You look back at his record though, wins over Bobby Green, Pete Spratt, John Howard, Thiago Alves, heās gone the distance with Masvidal and Magny, was giving Niko Price hell before getting walloped out of nowhere. Heās beat Laureano Staropoli and Mike Perry in his last two though, so heās on decent form at the moment. You never know how these last minute thrown together fights are gonna go but I think these two match up really well.Ā Ā Renato Moicano vs Jai Herbert. Interesting one here. At one point, Moicano was looking like a legitimate fringe contender in the Featherweight division. This is a man who holds wins over Calvin Kattar, Cub Swanson, Jeremy Stephens, was giving Brian Ortega all kinds of problems in a cracking fight before succumbing to a guillotine choke very late in the fight. Itās well gone tits up though. He got stopped in back-to-back fights by Aldo and the Zombie in 2019. Moved up to Lightweight and scored a quick submission over Damir Hadzovic. But then in his last fight in December, he got knocked out in a round by Rafael Fiziev. Mad how quickly a promising rising new face can get derailed, especially in those fast moving lighter weight classes. Itās ruthless. I still rate his skills but thereās serious work to do now. Itād be difficult for me to root against Jai Herbert here though. Heās a Midlands fighter, from Wolverhampton, 10-2 with 9 finishes, trains with Leon and Fabian Edwards, was the Cage Warriors champ at 155lbs. Looks decent from the couple of fights and clips Iāve seen. He made his UFC debut in July last year on Fight Island. Didnāt exactly go to plan though, he got walloped by Francisco Trinaldo and his old man power. That fight was a big talking point last summer, but not because of Trinaldo or Herbert. āSTOP THE FIGHT!!!!!ā It kicked off the whole Dan Hardy vs Herb Dean thing and ultimately became the catalyst for Hardyās eventual exit from the UFC. Herbert was supposed to fight Drakkar Klose in February but had to pull out. Now heās got Moicano. No easy fights for him. If he can beat Moicano though, heās in good company and itād go some way to redeeming him for the way his debut went. Good stuff here. Herbertās more of a standup fighter from bits Iāve seen, Moicano can strike a bit himself but his BJJ is his bread and butter really and Iād expect him to try to use that to his advantage here. Ā Danilo Marques vs Kennedy Nzechukwu. Another late switch up. It never ends. Marques was meant to fight Ed Herman here but Herman pulled out. Here we are. Marques is 35 out of SĆ£o Paulo, Brazil. 11-2 record with 9 finishes. Heās won 4 in a row and subbed Mike Rodriguez in his last fight. Donāt recall much about him but I know heās trained a lot with Shogun and Demian Maia so I like him by association. Nzechukwu probably makes for a better fight than Herman wouldāve, to be honest. Heās Nigerian, 29 years old with a record of 8-1 with 5 knockouts. He wasnāt on my radar at all really until this in his last fight⦠He knocked out Carlos Ulberg on the undercard of UFC 259 in March. It was a hell of a fight all-round. Ulberg was 3-0 coming in and had a bit of buzz around him stemming from his quick KO on Danaās Contender Series. He was giving Nzechukwu a hiding as well but Nzechukwu rallied and bashed him up there in the second. It was a great comeback, a top finish and they deservedly got FOTN for it. Stole the show on a loaded card that had 3 title fights. Looking forward to seeing more of him here, and Marques too. Ā Michel Prazeres vs Shavkat Rakhmonov is ***WANDāS ONE TO WATCH***Ā this time. Might seem an odd choice but I really like the look of Rakhmonov and itās the fight thatās standing out most to me. Really think he might be the real deal. Heās 26 years old from Kazakhstan, I think he was actually the first Kazakh fighter signed to the UFC. Heās undefeatedĀ at 13-0, all finishes, former M-1 Global Welterweight champion. Made his UFC debut on the Khabib vs Gaethje undercard in October, and put Cowboy Oliveira away in a round. Set about him on the feet then made him tap with a guillotine. Oliveira mightnāt be in the title mix but heās a tough and experienced, battle tested veteran. For Rakhmonov to come in and handle him like this was impressive. Looking forward to seeing more from him. Prazeres is 39 years old now and coming off a layoff. A young guy whoās meant to be a big prospect like Rakhmonov should really be beating him. But Prazeres is a potential banana skin. Heās a 2nd degree BJJ black-belt with a 26-3 record and actually holds a 2016 points win over Gilbert Burns. Yeah, Burns back then wasnāt what he is now but it still shows this guy has skills you canāt sleep on. Of course Iām favouring Rakhmonov, timing is everything. Heās on the way up and Prazeres is surely on the way out. But itās an interesting one for sure. Ā Warlley Alves vs Jeremiah Wells. This was meant to be Alves vs Ramazan Emeev but Emeev dropped out. Wells steps in on just 4 days notice. Never heard of him before but heās 8-2-1 with 6 finishes and was the Cage Fury Welterweight champ. Hasnāt competed since 2019 though. He was supposed to make his UFC debut a while back against Miguel Baeza but it got scrapped. Here we are. Alves has been inconsistent over the years but when heās on heās a bit of a handful. And he was definitely āonā in his last fight⦠He stopped Mounir Lazzez in a round in January. Just busted him up with body kicks and crumbled him. Lazzez had been being hyped up as a bit of a hot prospect going in but Alves shut that shit straight down. Alvesā other career highlights include winning TUF Brazil 3 back in 2014 and submitting some prick named Colby Covington in about 90 seconds in 2015. Heās got the skills. For whatever reason heās just struggled to string the wins together. Ā Marcin Prachnio vs Ike Villanueva. Nothing happening fight really but could actually wind up being a bit of a wild one. Prachnioās 14-5 with 11 finishes. Villanuevaās 18-10 with 15 knockouts. And nearly all their losses were inside the distance as well. Theyāre going nowhere but sod it. Could be fun. For as shite as Villanuevaās record is, Iāve found him great to watch so far. He had a right old slobberknocker with Chase Sherman on one of the first UFCās after the initial lockdown last year. And in January he did this to Vinicius Moreira⦠205ās a funny old division. The top end is class. Itās been a weird adjustment getting used to a post-Jones LHW scene but that triangle of Blachowicz, Teixeira and Prochazka weāre about to get stuck into is mouth watering. I love every combination of matchups between those three. And there are guys just below them Iāve always got time for like Santos, Walker, Rakic, Ankalaev etc. But lower down the ladder, some of itās on par with the dregs of Heavyweight. That said, like HW, sometimes those fights are so bad theyāre good. Like if Ngannou vs Stipe or Jan vs Glover are a perfectly cooked steak, fights like this are like a filthy, greasy bacon sandwich. Sometimes you want a bit of that though. Ā Julia Avila vs Julija Stoliarenko. The Raging Panda returns. Iām a fan. She seems really nice in interviews and stuff. Smart and likeable and doesnāt come across like someone who fights in a cage at all. I rated her as a solid prospect as well, and she went 8-0 initially. Things were going well. But then she lost to Sijara Eubanks in her last fight and, well, thatās never a good sign. Iāve never rated Eubanks so the Panda losing that one was a real disappointment and a bit of a red flag. Iāll continue to root for her but my hopes arenāt as high as they once were. Stoliarenko is Lithuanian, 28 years old with a record of 9-4-2. Nothing special from the limited footage Iāve seen and she got decisioned by Yana Kunitskaya in her Octagon debut back in August. Again, that doesnāt exactly bode well for her potential in the division. Nothing fight but Iād like to see Avila get back on track. Ā Charles Rosa vs Justin Jaynes. OK for what it is, prelim filler. Not that fussed but in fairness to both, I donāt recall either guy ever being boring. Rosa is 13-5 and has been on a win one/lose one streak for good few years now. Tough guy though. He got absolutely tied up in knots by Bryce Mitchell last year but somehow avoided getting subbed. I remember his fight with Yair Rodriguez years ago being quality as well, and he lost a split decision that night. Jaynes is 16-7 with 13 finishes. He had a great UFC debut, blitzing Frank Camacho in just 41 seconds. But heās been stopped in all 3 of his fights since. Got to think itās a win or go home situation for him here. Ā Yancy Medeiros vs Damir Hadzovic. This was meant to happen on the Font vs Garbrandt card the other week but got binned at the last minute when Hadzovic withdrew with health issues. Decent little fight though. Neither are world beaters but, as far as filler goes, and we get a lot of it these days, this is alright. Medeiros is a tough Hawaiian who actually fought as high as 205 early in his career. He was a chunky fucker back then, believe it or not. He gradually dropped the weight over the years and has settled at 155. Heās had his ups and downs in the cage as well as on the scales. The highlight of his UFC career by far though, was his 2017 barnburner against Alex āCowboyā Oliveira. A tremendous back and forth battle and Medeiros came through with the TKO. Fight Pass it if you havenāt seen it, you wonāt regret it. Hadzovic is Bosnian, 13-6, some decent wins but nothing outstanding. My main memory of him is this crazy KO against Marcin Held a few years ago. Beautifully timed. Should be a good fight this. But could also be a āloser leavesā situation as well, to be honest. Both are coming off losses and the roster is filled to the brim as it is. Ā Itāll do.Ā Edited June 25, 2021 by wandshogun09

Paid Members wandshogun09 Posted June 18, 2021 Author Paid Members Share Posted June 18, 2021 (edited) Ed Hermanās off the card now. Along with many others. Seriously, this card has been getting shagged raw all week. If you havenāt been keeping score⦠⢠The Tim Elliott vs Su Mudaerji fight is off. Mudaerji knee injury. ⢠Ed Herman is out due to undisclosed reasons. Danilo Marques now fights late replacement Kennedy Nzechukwu. ⢠Maxim Grishinās out thanks to Visa problems. Tanner Boser has stepped in against OSP. ⢠Ramazan Emeev has withdrawn from his fight with Warlley Alves. Think theyāre still looking for a substitute. ⢠And an injury has takenĀ Sergey Khandozhko out of his scheduled fight with Nicolas Dalby. But Dalbyās facing Tim Means now. Paid Members wandshogun09 Posted June 23, 2021 Author Paid Members Share Posted June 23, 2021 Old school Tim Means vs Spencer Fisher. Two things. 1)Ā youāveĀ got to listen to the commentary for the crazy Means stories. And 2) this both reminds me how much I enjoyed watching Spencer Fisher, and also makes me sad to remember the struggles heās going through these days. Loved watching himĀ when I first gotĀ into MMA though. Paid Members Egg Shen Posted June 25, 2021 Paid Members Share Posted June 25, 2021 yeh, and the Cage Warriors main card (headlined by Ian Garry)Ā starts at 3.30pm so it doesnt clash. That would be lovely if the Wales/Denmark game wasnt happening at the same time. On the subject of that main event. Ive dropped my money on Volkov. Echoing you wand. it could be a case of Gane being moved along too quickly. Gane has looked good until now, but Volkov is still at his peak, experienced and awkward as fuck to deal with because of his size. I fancy Volvov herever this thing goes. Decent underdog too if you fancy a flutter.

Paid Members Carbomb Posted June 25, 2021 Paid Members Share Posted June 25, 2021 It's always a bit cringe when MMA fighters go for designs like a samurai mask, or stuff saying "warrior", etc. Can almost hear the photo whispering "Bro? Kfogg1991
I don't think it's going to be a good night in the office for Gane........I think Volkov absolutely wins it tonight with a KO. It's not the greatest fight night card but not the worst by any stretchĀ
Paid Members wandshogun09 Posted June 27, 2021 Author Paid Members Share Posted June 27, 2021 For all the indifference towards this show going in, it turned out to be pretty fucking fun all in all, I thought. Beautiful performance from Ciryl Gane in the main event. I had a bad feeling Volkov might derail him but Gane looked good here. Really sharp, was more attacking than in the Rozenstruik fight and was putting his combinations together nicely. A finish wouldāve been nice but he won handily. And against a Volkov who was coming in off the biggest win of his career against Overeem. That was probably the best heās ever looked as well so Gane was getting a confident and in form fighter here and still outclassed him for most of it. Shame about the eye poke in the last round but he was already well clear on the cards by that point anyway. Not sure whatās next. Maybe Blaydes if he beats Rozenstruik? Give him the old wrestler test. It feels way too soon to be talking title shots but itās getting to the point now where there arenāt many Heavyweights he can really go against next who wonāt feel like a step backwards now after consecutive wins over JDS, Rozenstruik and Volkov. Youāve got to give him a title eliminator next really. Thereās very few guys standing between him and the title shot now. Problem is, if Ngannouās still champ then will they fight, being teammates? Maybe they will. I donāt know how close they are beyond training together but if itās for the gold maybe theyād do it. I donāt know. Do they do Miocic vs Gane in a title eliminator while Ngannou vs Lewis 2 plays out? Boser vs OSP ended how I expected really. Just havenāt had a good feeling about OSP lately and even with Boser jumping in on short notice, I fancied him winning. Lot of talk about the fence grab from Boser shortly before the finish. I donāt know. It looks like a blatant grab at first glance but I think Iām with Felder. It looked to me like Boser pushes off the cage with a closed fist. Which isnāt illegal at all as far as Iām aware.Ā Sounded to me like there was a clash of heads just before the KO as well. You could hear what sounded like the clunk of heads right before the finish.Ā Just a bad night all around for OSP. Valiev vs Barcelos was FOTN. Good stuff. Valievās granite. He took a right hiding for spells of this but just refused to fuck off. Bit disappointed to see Barcelos lose. I was hoping heād work his way up to being a contender. I just thought there were times here where he took his foot off the gas a bit and didnāt throw enough. He had a great second round but I had Valiev taking the first and third and a lot of it was down to him just having a higher output. How good did Andre Fili look before that unfortunate eye poke ballsed everything right up? Heās never looked more fluid and sharpĀ in the UFC. Everything seemed to be clicking perfectly for him. Then he poked Pineda in the eye and that was that. Shame. This eye poke thing has always been an issue but it seems to be happening all the time lately, doesnāt it? Thereās no easy fix but something has got to be done other than everyone just repeatedly saying āsomething has got to be doneā. Enjoyed the Tim Means vs Nicolas Dalby fight. Another solid win for Means, heās on a nice little win streak now. Dalby gave it a good old bash and I thought he might stop Means when he had him hurt late but Means is so tough and experienced he was able to stay composed, survive and ride it out. I know Means was talking about fighting young and ranked guys but I wouldnāt mind seeing him against a Condit or Lawler myself. Moicano completely schooled Jai Herbert, didnāt he? Itās not working out for Herbert in the UFC at all. He just had nothing for Moicano here. Really nice performance from the Brazilian though. I think I said in the opening post that Moicano would probably be wise to grapple this one out but heās had a tendency to get dragged into striking battles in the past. He stuck to the grappling here though and it paid off and he got the finish. Kennedy Nzechukwu does it again. Thatās back-to-back fights now where heās been losing pretty clearly and has pulled a late stoppage out of the bag. Never had much of an opinion on him before but these last couple of fights heās had have been great fun. Shavkat Rakhmonov is the real deal. Thatās him still unbeaten. 14-0, 14 finishes. And now heās submitting a legit 2nd degree BJJ black-belt⦠Very impressive. Yeah, Prazeres was much shorter but than can be just as tricky as someone being a lot taller. Especially if the short guy is a serious grappler like Prazeres. Rakhmonov actually took himĀ down, which surprised me. Just shows the confidence he has in his ground game. Itās still early stages really but there doesnāt appear to be many holes in his overall game. His striking is dangerous (I love those step-in knees heās used here and in the Cowboy Oliveira fight), his ground and pound is strong, clearly can grapple a bit. Very interested to see how far he can go in the Welterweight division. Itās one of the more stacked divisions in the sport so weāll see where his level is soon enough. Looks the business so far though. Jeremiah Wells had quite the Octagon debut. Stepped in on a few days notice and just wiped out Warlley Alves. At this point it seems like we should just disregard the short notice thing as a disadvantage. It seems like a total 50/50 and can be as much of a detriment to the fighter who was already on the card as it is for the guy coming in last minute. Itās a total lottery and a lot depends on how active the substitute has been recently, if they were already close to weight, there mightnāt be much footage out there for the other guyās team to look at etc. Thereās a lot more to it than we see on face value. I like the look of Wells though. Nice insight having his teammate Paul Felder on commentary as well. Sounds like Wells will be worth keeping track of. Marcin Prachnio vs Ike Villanueva was more enjoyable than I expected it to be. Villanueva was busting him up with his hands at the start and I thought Prachnio was in deep shit. He was clearly feeling the power of Villanueva and wasnāt reacting well but he weathered it, got the kicks going and folded Big Ike with a nasty kick to the liver early in the second⦠Horrible. Iāll have to take more notice of Prachnio. Never bothered before and I donāt think heās anything special but I liked his kicks here and heās obviously tough as fuck. And Julia Avila vs Julija Stoliarenko was bags of fun. What were these two on? Raging Panda indeed! They went after it big time. Wasnāt the most pretty display of striking technically but the aggression was certainly there and they both werenāt shy about getting stuck in. Avila just outlasted her in the end and got the submission in the third round. Really entertaining fight from start to finish. Really enjoyable show. I saw all but the 2 Fight Pass prelims and didnāt think anything was bad.Ā No UFC next week. Roll on 264 in a fortnight.Ā
Paid Members WeeAl Posted June 27, 2021 Paid Members Share Posted June 27, 2021 Yeah that was a really fun show in general. I like big Hurricane Ike so was hoping he would win here, but fair play to Prachnio, he weathered the storm and then folded Ike nicely with that body kick. Beautiful stuff.Ā Rakhmonov, should they move him through the gears sensibly, could really develop into something special I feel. As Wand says, it's a stacked division so there's no rush, considering he's pretty young I think. A crafty veteran like Cowboy Oliveira or maybe a Mike Perry could be worth a shout as potential opponents.Ā Moicano remembered how good a grappler he was then. Good to see, considering he looked like one to keep an eye on before it all went off the rails a while back. He needs to get a run together of two or three wins I feel, before jumping back in with the sharks at 155.Ā Means and Dalby had a really good fight. Both had some good moments here. I like both guys so didn't mind who won, and neither man likes to take a step back when the heat is on. This is a nice, late career surge for Means, who can give anyone a hell of a hard time on his day.Ā Raoni Barcelos didn't do enough to win a decision. Which must be frustrating, because when he turned it on he battered Timur. I scored the second round a 10-8, making it a draw.Ā Andre Fili looked fantastic until the eye poke. Really, really slick. That sequence where he dropped Pineda following the right head kick, 2/3 punch combo and the right head kick was beautiful and shows Pineda must be made of cast fucking iron. No idea how he got up after that.Ā Weirdly in the main event, I had it scored quite close, but if I was judging the fight overall, not round by round, there wouldn't have been a doubt in my mind that Gane won it. I gave Volkov round 1 fairly easily. Gane round 3&5. Then 2 and 4 were the close ones for me. In the end, 48-47 is how I went for Gane, and this was his best win I think. Really confident striking with such an experienced striker like Volkov, who had a huge size advantage as well, is quite something. I'm not sure what's next for him. I don't see Miocic having any interest. It's title, Jones or bust for him I would imagine. Lewis/Ngannou are booked. Blaydes and Rozenstruick are booked? Anyone else is a step back. Thinking Gane has to sit back and see if anyone needs a late replacement.Ā
Paid Members Egg Shen Posted June 29, 2021 Paid Members Share Posted June 29, 2021 literally saw two fights before having the main event spoiled by me looking in the General News thread this morning (my fault). I did see Rakhkonov though who looks like a bit of a problem. Took apart a tricky challenge with such relative looking ease. Theres just something about his calmness in th cage that tells me hes pretty special. If i was making a prediction for fighters to watch in a calender year he may be top, by this time next year he'll comfortably be top 15. I fear hes gonna be one those guys nobody is gonna wanna fight though.
