Members SuperBacon Posted February 19, 2024 Author Members Posted February 19, 2024 The Diego player issue from These Football Times has been reprinted for those of you interested. https://thesefootballtimes.shop/products/diego-maradona Another one for the shrine. My youngest is absolutely football mental at the moment and I've enjoyed showing her clips of Diego, and she knows how much I love him, and we had a discussion recently on players who have "single handedly" won World Cups (IMO Maradona, Ronaldo and an argument to be made for Messi) She had to choose someone to do a biography on at school recently and said "Maybe I should choose him" before I steered her clear of presenting a bio of cocaine and domestic violence to her teacher. Defo Maradona, I'd say Messi as well, and then Romario. Ronaldo in 2002 did have Rivaldo and Ronaldinho on top top form. Baggio in 1994 would have been spoken about in the same terms as Maradona if Italy had won that tournament, but that's a different story. Quote

Good points but my criteria (if there is any) is that take those players out of the team and would that team win the World Cup? I suppose you could say that about lots of players I guess. Anyway, have a Friday Diego photo. Quote
King Coconut Posted November 29, 2024 Posted November 29, 2024 (edited) If Germany had won in 2002, Oliver Kahn would be the only answer to this question. But they didn't. Probably because he didn't score. Edited November 29, 2024 by King Coconut Quote
Paid Members Carbomb Posted December 1, 2024 Paid Members Posted December 1, 2024 I wouldn't have said Romario - Bebeto and Cafu were in that team as well. Quote

True, Bebeto was a good partner for Romario, but Romario for sure was the top dog in that team. Should have gone to the 98 World Cup too, they could have used him after Ronaldo had his issues in that final. Quote

Absolutely, but I got the impression from your original post that you were saying that Brazil were essentially a one-man team. If I've misunderstood, my apologies. Quote
Members SuperBacon Posted October 16, 2025 Author Members Posted October 16, 2025 Been a while since a Diego photo dump, so here are some of my recent favourite discoveries. The thing you always forget about him is what a handsome man he was. That first pic is what I think the kids today call 'aura' Do I have a photo folder on my phone of just Diego photos? None of your business! Quote
