David
Â As mentioned, moving within the EU is piss-easy. I moved to Spain and lived there for over a year. Fantastic. Â Fancy Norway or Sweden next I think. Was the language barrier an issue? Â Nah, not really. Plus, there are free (or close to free) Spanish classes for foreigners on offer. I took a month crash course and picked up enough to get by.
hallicks
 Who'd ya work for Hallicks?  Visual Effects/Post production company that specialises in commercials. I can PM you the name but I'm worried they might search for themselves online, put 2 + 2 together and notice I spend quite a bit of time on the UKFF during work hours. Paid Members Sergio Mendacious Posted March 4, 2015 Paid Members Share Posted March 4, 2015 Dipping back into this thread brought up an interesting situation — I'm traveling back to England for a week, on Friday, and I didn't know that there would be an issue in using my UK passport to re-enter the US — that's why I'd never got round to getting a US passport. However, apparently they can give me a shitload of hassle about it, so I'm going to spend this evening getting together a packet of things to photocopy to support my passport  — lease agreement, bills for our apartment, citizenship certificate, jury duty certificate, etc. Tedious shit. hallicks
What's the dealio with that? Do you have a visa?
Paid Members Sergio Mendacious Posted March 5, 2015 Paid Members Share Posted March 5, 2015 I don't need one, I have dual-citizenship. Apparently, they might put me in a holding room and grill me about how much I love America, but I can't be denied entry.

andrew "the ref" coyne
Andrew the ref has, hopefully he'll see this.  Where are you thinking of emigrating to?  HUZZAH! I FEEL USEFUL!  Yep, moved to Melbourne just over 3 years ago. I would recommend it depending on your the reasons why you want to move.  For us:  - Better job prospects in both marketing (me) and social services (the missus). - Our friend were getting married and boring, and Melbourne allowed us to be more sociable. Melbourne is very positive in that regards. - Opportunity to travel. My partner hasn't done an awful lot in her time, so it's been a big adventure for her in that regard. - Strangely enough reignited my enjoyment of wrestling. The Aussie scene isn't too shabby.  If you come to Australia I would highly recommend Melbourne. Very sociable, great bars and nightlife. Big range of nationalities too.  Getting in was relatively easy for us because my partner is on the special skills list; i.e. a high demand job. However if you're not on it, you have to get a temp 2 year visa (and have to work "on the land" during it for a bit), and hope somebody sponsors you. Thankfully, if you're coming as a pair, only one of you needs sponsoring IF you've been together for 12 months +.  I do miss England, but at the same time we were at that point in life where our social life was dipping off. Boring as it sounds. Miss the family a LOT, but they also come and visit.  If you have any Melbourne specific questions don't hesitate to drop me PM. Cobra1000
It's funny that this thread has popped up. I haven't really been frequenting the forum as much as I used to but seeing this and some other threads remind me what a likeable bunch you all are. Â Im thinking of moving around Europe. Long story short I'm from Northern Ireland, I work as a supervisor in a coffee shop and I asked for a contract (it's zero hours atm) and was told I can't be given one despite two chefs being given contracts. I could fight it but I don't care, screw it. I just see it as an opportunity to leave. I don't like NI, or the way of life here. Â Anyway so my girlfriend is Portuguese and lives in Portugal, she's got another year of Uni but I thought I'd move a little closer to her. My plan is do a little bit of travelling in May then meet up with her at a festival in Porto in June and then look for a job in Spain, Portugal or Gibraltar. Â Im positive I could get a seasonal bar job or something of that nature. My freelance career is going okay so I make some money off that and I'm armed with a TEFL degree so I think I could do a number of things. Â Anyone got any advice? I know Spain and Portugal aren't great but I'd realistically be happy with somewhere in mainland Europe but I would like to get closer to my girlfriend really. Â Thanks guys
Paid Members Sergio Mendacious Posted March 15, 2015 Paid Members Share Posted March 15, 2015 Update: nah worries. Got a couple of quizzical looks, and a "really?", but made it back without a hitch. Right up till we got in the taxi, I expected to get tased or have an eagle set on me, but now I'm lying on the settee about to order some dinner
Flangedango
How hard is it to actually move to the US? Seriously considering it as a possibility now. Are there any skills in short supply over there? Fucked off thinking about never being able to afford a decent home over here and it's only going to get worse. Where over there you can get something like this for a mere £150k.   Stunning 4 bed property for the same price as a rabbit hutch in West Acton. Moderators neil Posted April 29, 2015 Moderators Share Posted April 29, 2015 Where exactly is that house? Coz it's probably not in a place you'd actually want to live. Houses are fucking expensive here if you want to live in a non-backwards area. Â Also, you may as well just stop "considering" it unless you have an offer in hand. Your only real choice if you want to work here is to either find a company that wants to hire you so bad that they'll spend a fortune in bringing you over or some yank lass you can manage to convince to marry you.
