9. James Bond Die Another Day- Its no wonder the franchise with Brosnan ( and has had been since the 1960's) died after this point.

This doesn't make any sense at all.

High camp in a bad way, too much gadgetry, a nonsensical plot involving a man who isn't Korean, but actually is, thanks to DNA shenannigans. Then you have a giant plane that falls to bits in cruddy CGI. Madonna, An awful skiff bit in shoddy CGI, Surfing that is worse than Escape from LA ,The Ice Palace, Jinx, shoddy acting and so forth and so on. It's awful on every conceivable level.

The next bond afterwards was the gritty reboot version, thus DAD pretty much killed off the old formula

EDIT: The Moneypenny 'dream sequence' also ups the crapness rating

I didn't mean the bit about Die Another Day as I haven't seen it, I meant the rant about the franchise and the 1960s bit, I don't know what you mean.

My lists. At the time i wrote it Green wanted the 10 worst instead of 3.

1. Ghostbusters (Just simply one of the best comedy films of all time, timeless, brilliant and featuring an on fire Bill Murray)

2. Tremors (Came out when I was working in London after leaving school and brings back great memories.)

3. The Godfather (Just simply everything about this film is perfect)

4. Empire Strikes Back (The best of all the Star Wars Movies)

5. Lost In Translation (Murray again, just a brilliantly made movie that despite nothing really happening is captivating and that opening shot of Scarlett Johanssons backside)

6. Back to the Future (Brilliant, one of THE movies of the 80's)

7. Aliens (One of trhe first 18s I saw and again just fun, clever, scary, tense and above all brilliant)

8. Commando (Had to be in here, Arnie at his best)

9. Toy Story (There were a lot of animated films to be picked from here inc. Akira, Jungle Book, Finding Nemo etc. But this took animation to a whole new level)

10. Team America: World Police (Parker & Stones funniest and sweariest film. Tops even South Park)

Although since sending this i've realised I should have put Starship Troopers & Jaws in there.

1. The Happening (The trees and bushes are out to kill us with a gas?? W.T.F.?!)

2. The Last Airbender (M.Night Shalamaladingdong is one of the worst writer/directors of recent years)

3. Batman & Robin

4. Catwoman (One of the most stupid films ever made)

5. Norbit (Eddie Murphy's lowest moment ever and that includes Meet Dave)

6. The Village (Send the blind girl out through the forrest with 'Monsters' lurking as someone is dying rather than someone who a. knows the way and b. can see..)

7. Highlander II: The Quickening (A film ruined by the studio types, although the directors cut is slightly better and makes a bit of sense, ruined the memory of the excellent original)

8. Eyes Wide Shut (Kubricks final film was not the best one to go out on)

9. The Dance/Epic/Disaster Movie movies (All of these parody movies maybe cheap to make and come out every 6 months or so, but they are all awful, they might as well be grouped as one to save on votes)

10. The Spirit (Decent cast terrible film)

I didn't mean the bit about Die Another Day as I haven't seen it, I meant the rant about the franchise and the 1960s bit, I don't know what you mean.

Basically, the Bond's to that point were a mix of suave sophistication, some gritty realism, some parody and some OTT stuff. Each bBond has their own stamp on the series, even Lazenby, I liked OHMSS. The series had been going since the 1960's with largely the same premise. with a few alterations hither and thither along the way.

This film, pretty much caused the death of it as was. as it ramped everything up to 11 and tried to be something it wasn't. Had it been an action film that wasn't 'Bond' I don't think I would have minded as much, but as was , it was trying to pander to the Matrix set, and calling it a Bond film was too much. Though it had a secret agent called Bond, it wasn't a Bond film. if it had starred Dolph Lundgren or Sly or JCVD or action star de jour then it would have been an ok actioner, potentially but Bond, to me, was never about that. Yes. there was action, but it wasn't at the expense of the series, nor being completely reliant on gadgets and tech and CGI. Despite all of the unrealistic nature of the Bond films, it was never, just another film series.

Eon admitted it had gone to far with making Bond, not Bond in this sense, and once the Spiderman rights issues were settled and Casino Royale was returned to them. The then writer, Paul Wade I think, started drafting a film that was more a return to its roots in Casino Royale, which was going to star Brosnan at that point. Die Another Day, therefore pretty much killed the series as was.

Ahh right, I misunderstood, I thought you were having a dig at the Roger Moore era, in which case I was going to take a swing at you.

To be honest, I've not seen any of the recent Bond films. I think the last one I saw was Goldeneye.

I'd never have a dig at the Moore Bond's, they are super fun.

I've not seen any of the new Bonds with Craig, they just dont appeal, at all :/

Right, who wants a complete list of films voted for? Tough, you're getting it.

My unique scoring system saw me giving out the following:-

1st place - 16

2nd place - 12

3rd place - 9

4th place - 7

And then down one point each from there on in. This is what everything scored.

The first bracket is how many time it was voted in first place, the second bracket how many voted for it overall. If it only has one bracket, then no-one voted it in first place. If it has no brackets then only one person voted for it. Okay?

I've really enjoyed reading both of these threads. Top work, Mr Small. Maybe next time I'll stick a list in. I'm no authority on films and don't watch enough to have opinions worth sharing. I tend to be easily pleased as long as its not total shit.

On the other hand, Cool Runnings didn't make it, so I'll probably be compelled to stick one in next time.

All opinions are worth sharing. I actually had to talk a couple of people into sending lists in because they were worried their choices weren't any good.

It's good to have the cross-section of choices from people who take their films really seriously and people who are a little bit more laid back about films. You get a nice mixture, then. I think the top 50 has reflected that.

Kudos Gladders for doing both of these.

Not only have they been fantastic reads, but from a personal perspective have taught me the important lesson that I shouldn't have been such a lazy arse and spent less time doing the work i'm paid to do, and more time making my lists and sending it in.

My votes went to the following. Judge me not:

And my bottom 3:

1. Bram Stoker's Dracula

2. The Beach

3. Eraserhead

Glad to see Eraserhead on someone else's shit list! I have been made to feel stupid for saying how much I hated it in the past..

Also, is there a more manly man than Cleetus Van Damme? Judging from these lists, I think not.

This was one of my favourite lists submitted. Some fantastic choices here - especially delighted to see Blow Out and The French Connection get mentions.

Was just about to post the same. Cracking list, every one of those films is top notch. You should post more often smp.

Cheers, having a look at you list it
