Moderators PowerButchi Posted September 26, 2011 Moderators Share Posted September 26, 2011 How much Kevin Kelly does one show need? According to ROH, it needs a lot. Â The opening graphics look ok, could probably do with some polish. They've done a decent job making the crowd look sizable, better than TNA do. However, the overall production looks a bit dark. That black canvas can go for a start. Maybe they're trying to look edgy or something, but it being that dark makes it look cheap. When I stumble upon cheap looking programming on TV I don't stay stumbled upon it very long. Â First thing we see is the ever more rotund Kevin Kelly. He looks awful these days. But out comes McGuinness who cuts a decent promo only I get annoyed by the crowd chucking fucking streamers. Â Futureshock look awful. Really generic. The Bravados have a great look and gimmick. I like what they did here with having a quick moment or two with the wrestlers so you can learn about them and get into them. I learned the Bravados are interesting. I learned that Futureshock are dishwater. Also, the crowd can fuck off straight away with those streamers. ROH fans ruin it in everyway they can. Â How convoluted is Futureshocks offense? It's like a worse Generation Me if there's such a thing, and the crowd doing the annoying "aren't we clever?" applause after a horribly choreographed bit of double teamery makes it even worse. The double dragon screw is one of the worst things I've ever seen, and I can see me really, REALLY hating Futureshock for however long I regularly watch this show. It's becoming clear as well how worse Kelly has got since his WWF stint. Lots of pauses that don't seem like they're in the right place. I love the Bravado's attire. I like them in the ring as well. Basic, yet effective. The short haired member of Futureshock threw some of the poorest strikes I've seen in this match. Stan Lane poor. Don't try and do all the super duper muay thai strike offense shite if you can't do it well. Keep it simple. Unlike that stupid double underhook ddt into a wheelbarrow suplex spot which got the idiots standing with their "aren't we clever" applause. It should have been the finish as well to be honest, for if you do something that, well, I dunno what, it should be the finish. Anyway, a total elimination wins it for Futureshock. I like the Bravados, I can see myself enjoy them as it goes on, but Futureshock can fuck off. Â More KEVIN KELLY, as he interviews (and towers over) Heavyweight Champion Davey Richards much like he's Ken Resnick on Wrestling Challenge in 1987. While Davey Richards appears to be trying to look hard with his stubble, he's not pulling it off. Especially when "MR ROH" DOUBLE K is dwarfing him. Davey Richards needs to learn to close his mouth when he's not speaking. It makes him look thick. Also, he needs to have a bit of oomph in his promos. It's the first episode, and you want people tuning in for the first time to be blown away. Not a short bloke who looks a bit like Thom Yorke being monotonous. Â The Best in the World feature is a good idea and a nice touch to give people a taste of iPPV and give them a bit of history and backstory, only it's helmed by Mr ROH himself, Double K, Kevin Kelly. Surely they could have got someone else in to VO this. They may as well call this fucking thing WOK for World of Kelly instead of ROH. The feature was well made and well produced and did Davey Richards more favours than the previous 1987 promo with Mr ROH. Well, until he started crying like a bairn at the end anyway. Â Then it's time for Inside ROH, a look at the Code of Honor hosted by... Â MR ROH KEVIN KELLY! Unless Kevin Kelly is headlining their next iPPV I cannot fathom why he's getting so much screen time. Jim Cornette explains it a bit and does a good job. Wouldn't it make more sense to have him host a segment rather than get Lord and King of ROH Kevin Kelly to do it? They ask Jay Lethal about his TV Title shot next week, and it leads me to wonder whether Jay Lethal always sounded like Bill Cosby on Quaaludes, because he does now. Â The pre main-event video shows Antonio Cesaro looking like a beast. Shame he's probably not going to be on another episode. They should have thought ahead a bit there. Â Nigel talks to Julian Smith from Bloomington, IL in the crowd to ask him who he thinks wins. He thinks Team Angle are going to win whether they want to or not... Â But seriously, they've already published a tweet on this show saying that people should watch ROH because it's not 1997, and then they send Nigel McGuinness in the crowd asking the inarticulate who is going to win like he's Stephanie Wiand on the live Superstars. ROH isn't 1997, but at times it's 199fucking5. Â Claudio Castagnoli is brilliant. What a star he is. Not too fussed on Hero, he's pasty and appears to have love handles and a cottage cheese arse, but Claudio is fantastic. He has all the tools, and it's now just getting them all polished and sorted in FCW. I've never liked Haas and Benjamins. Well, that's a lie. I did in 2003 or so. Even looking at Charlie Haas sends me to sleep. He has nothing about him to interest me. Not a single thing about him at all shouts "Star" out to me. Â The mouthbreathing Briscoes are out with ROH Grand Slam Champion and Top Face MR ROH Kevin Kelly for another Wrestling Challenge interview. The one with no front teeth needs to give up on that beard. Bumfluff staches aren't a tough look. Â The tale of the tape is another nice touch, but I'd get the ages off there post haste. Haas' tights look cheap and nasty. People talk about wrestlers who aren't big having an "Athlete's physique" and Claudio is one of the few times it's accurate. He's in WWE TV shape already, and his cocky posing is a joy to behold. He can really go in the ring as well. Decent enough 10 minute TV main event. Nothing too spectacular, but I suppose they want to keep that for iPPVs. Â So, a decent first effort. A few production wrinkles to iron out. And far, FAR too much Kevin fucking Kelly, but it's the first show and they'll hopefully get it all together over time. It's worth staying with for a few weeks as it stands. Paid Members IANdrewDiceClay Posted September 26, 2011 Paid Members Share Posted September 26, 2011 Wrestling spot looks contrived shocker  You're point is? Edge isnt helping Cena along like they are a pair of ballet dancers is he? Cena could probably do that to anyone in you're local. Doesnt look contrived at all. Its a move that is over.  And that move paid for all these:

The Cum Doctor
As I've said, I'm a HUGE ROH fan, and I don't condone that shit. Why the hell does DDD?  Not too fussed on Hero, he's pasty  THAT'S the fucking word I was looking for! It's the main thing about his look I have a problem with. I think he'd make a cracking WWE pretty boy if it weren't for that.  I think yer harsh on The Briscoes in this instance Butch. They did a decent job of getting their message across. Moderators PowerButchi Posted September 26, 2011 Moderators Share Posted September 26, 2011 I had no problem with the promo per se. More with Kelly's fat face taking up TV time again, and that bumfluff stache.
Paid Members IANdrewDiceClay Posted September 26, 2011 Paid Members Share Posted September 26, 2011 What I really cant stand (and I'm probably repeating myself, but reading Butch's review has set me off again) is the whole attitude they have. Its a big time Charlie thing. There's definitely a place for a wrestling based show on TV. I like the one hour format and the mostly wrestling formular. Its the style of wrestling I hate. If ROH's had a Kurt Angle, Bobby Roode, James Storm, Austin Aries, Daniel Bryan, Chris Masters, MVP and AJ Styles on the show, it would be good to watch everyweek. People who can wrestle and have personality in the way they wrestle. What Mark Henry is doing isnt storyline bullshit. Its simple angles that are very, very well performed. He's got the ability to connect with audience. Davey Richards has no personality when he wrestles. He's doing a Benoit tribute act and thats all I know about him. All I learned from this debut show is that he's the champion, he cries and that Kevin Kelly is bigger than him. Ring of Honor, to me, is a load of wrestlers being encouraged to work a style of wrestling that never gets over with a wider audience and will end up fucking you up physically. Case in point, the Briscoes are a mess and have been since they were in their early 20s. Desmond Wolfe's brain is scrambled due to those stupid stunts he did a few years ago. Generation Meh were so disliked by TNA, word spread to WWE and even Lance Storm thinks they are a pair of bell ends. According to two people in WWE (Goldust and Booker T), a load of people in TNA and Lance Storm (who was backstage at WWE the night they were there) they are a pair of arrogant bastards who believe their own bullshit and walk around like they think they deserve to earn a living. Thats the attitude these spot monkeys have developed from the no selling attitudes of this kind of promotion. Its a vanity project for a bunch of people who claim they know what "real wrestling is", but is so far from it its ridiculous. ROH is wasted potential I think. Its a tribute act to a territory from the early 80s. I'm surprised at Cornette the most. This cant be his idea of what a wrestling promotion should be? He worked and learned from the likes of Jerry Jarrett, Bob Armstrong, Jim Crockett, Ole Anderson and all those lot. Â I hope Jeff Katz has it spot on. His roster looks good and he knows his wrestling. That wrestling show he's got coming on sounds great.
Vito
The butterfly suplex combo looked great and the crowd went crazy for it, I really don't see what the problem is. Only on the UKFF could another promotion making it to TV, thus giving wrestlers another place to work, be seen as a bad thing. And people have the audacity to call me negative. And moreover, it not being the finish is mega stupid. Also, WGTT's Hart Attack as a finish was anti-climatic to be honest after stuff through the match like a big swing into a kick to the head and stuff. But from what I've seen from WGTT all their finishes are a bit like that.

Because he's a fucking super-pleb, that's why. Anybody that thinks that the AA looks as contrived as that Futureshock spot wants looking at.
