it wasn't a great show....the opener was a showcase for Honeycutt, make no bones about it. It wasn't exciting but Honeycutt looks a real prospect. The women's fight was a horrible mismatch, how the hell was Budd's opponent ranked 7th in the world despite only winning 4 fights? Women's MMA is either good or really really bad.

The main event wasn't an all out war, but it may have spelled the end for Melvin Manhoef. I know he's always been a guy who goes on his shield, and there's no doubt he'll fight again but it was odd to see him being pretty complacent out there, for the first time i think ever Melvin look tentative and like he was fighting to avoid takedowns rather than just swinging the hammers. It allowed Shlemenko too do his thang...Shlemenko also gives some of the best broken english post fight interviews in MMA, brilliant.

the finish.

You can afford to be creative against Manhoef because as long as you're able to move back quickly, the odds are very good you'll get at least a glancing blow in and that's all you need to put Manhoef down these days. It's sad in some ways because you know that Manhoef has been knocked out more than enough times to where each subsequent time is doing even more long-term damage and he just will not hang it up. He won't hang it up and he doesn't care about the damage he's doing to himself. On some level, you almost feel bad for guys who keep getting knocked out and don't know enough to walk away because you know the damage they're doing, but with Manhoef, it's impossible to care because not only does he know what he’s doing, he doesn’t care about the damage he’s doing to himself, and if someone is that stupid, they deserve everything they get.

except his last one, it was a stinker.

Anyway so Bellator's British Invasion is Friday night, it's experienced current-UFC levels of injuries, but in fairness Bellator have kept it looking pretty solid. The actual British thing is a bit out of the window now though as only 3 of the 5 fights actually include a Brit, and only 2 of the original 5 fights have stayed together.

What we get...

Main Card (on Spike TV)
Emanuel Newton (25-7-1) vs. Liam McGeary (9-0) - Light Heavyweight Title Fight
Paul Daley (35-13-2) vs. André Santos (37-9)
Thierry Sokoudjou (16-12) vs. Linton Vassell (14-4, 1 NC)
Cheick Kongo (22-9-2) vs. Muhammed Lawal (14-4, 1 NC)
Brennan Ward (9-3) vs. Curtis Millender (7-0)

it's still a very good card, and for me is better than the UFC's PPV Main card this weekend. Really looking forward to this.
