I know, i feel like Scottie Malbranque in that the only way i can possibly think of to describe my joy at this little flurry of action movies on the way, is in terms of the transformation taking place in my underwear,

That and the new Die Hard movie which i know nothing about, but the trailor looked pretty fucking sexy. The only times i've been to the cinema in the past few years is to watch the Expendables 1 & 2, now i'm about to go three times in a month - welcome back action movies. I've missed you.

Yeah, I know next to nothing about the new Die Hard other than it's R rated so should have plenty of violence. That's good enough for me!

I also heard from my mate that there is a good cut of Die Hard 4 out there that has blood and more violence and swearing.. So I'd quite like to see that too.

I just watched

. A North Korean film. The film had a strong message of loving your native home, and working hard to bring prosperity to your home town / village however grim things seem. It's a very North Korean message, and promotes both patriotism and socialism in a not so subtle fashion. The look and feel of the film is quite pleasing on the eye, being set in beautiful countryside locations, and often showing its protagonists in states of enormous happiness whilst putting themselves through some serious heavy labour in order to contribute to the improvement of the village, and the country as a whole.

Overall, I'd say this did have aspects of a

Richie, your enthusiasm for such out-of-left-field stuff literally brings a smile to my face (a bit dangerous at work, but I'm smiling nonetheless).

You strike me as the type of chap who'd go to a Hallowe'en party dressed as Kim Jong-Il, which would be hilarious.

Thanks, I guess! What can I say; I just find these kinds of things fascinating. Things that are unusual, obscure, or out of the ordinary have always interested me. I certainly enjoy sharing my thoughts on such things in the hope that others might actually experience the same enjoyment and gratification from them as I do. :)

Tonights movie was Revenge: A Love Story. A Man known as the Dissector is killing pregnant women and their husbands, the police hunt for the man they believe to be responsible, and he has a strong motive for the killings.

The film is quite heavy on the message of revenge and how it consumes people. the lead actor is great, as is Sola Aoi who for my money is one of the best porn to mainstream crossover actresses, she does well in this role despite not having much to do. its shocking and a little bleak overall but worth a watch.

As usual with these kinds of things, I've been way behind seemingly everyone else and only just got round to watching The Walking Dead (and only really knew about it because of the game). Got series 1 DVD for Christmas and watched it through this week and fookin loved it.

Got series 2 downloaded from iTunes and will be making my way through it soon. Twice as many episodes as series 1, sweet!

I quite enjoyed this picture on the whole and will probably seek out another old school DPRK propaganda movie again when I have a suitable amount of free time.

And that's just what I did tonight, with A Forest is Swaying (1982). Again, really strong morals and messages are portrayed through these North Korean films, and having read a bit and watched a few old documentaries on the isolated nation, I think I can kind of understand the context of what these films aimed to achieve from their intended audiences (the struggling, hungry North Korean people of the 1980's).

A still from the opening title sequence

The message once again here, was that true national heroism could be achieved through back breaking labour and selfless, gritty devotion to the land. This film tells the story of a forester, his associates and immediate family who work tirelessly to transform desolate wastelands in previously war torn mountain ranges into fruitful, prosperous forests. Slightly more than an insinuated metaphor for the entire nation, I feel.

These films do have a tendency to draw you in, and portray well the emotions of the characters. The simplistic but visually pleasing locations of nature exhibited in these pictures, presented with a calming, emotive score give them a bit of a tranquillising ambience. I did find both of the films which I have watched this week to be quite relaxing experiences. Once again, I think I'll seek to dig out one or two more of these types of films over the weekend before (like any other phase of mine) the interest slowly burns out.

For anyone remotely interested, (probably no one, but still)

to watch the full movie on youtube. Be warned though, the quality isn't the best, the sound is slightly suspect, and the subs seem to lack a bit of the necessary boldness at times. That being said, I watched this exact version and got through it all okay. Edited by Richie Freebird

Just watched Summer Wars which was on Sky Premiere the other night. Great bit of anime.

Kenji Koiso, a timid eleventh-grade math genius who is taken to Ueda by twelfth-grade student Natsuki Shinohara to celebrate her great-grandmother's 90th birthday. However, he is falsely implicated in the hacking of a virtual world by an artificial intelligence. Kenji must repair the damage done to the virtual world and he must find a way to stop the artificial intelligence from causing any further damage.

Are you (or anyone else on here for that matter) an anime connoisseur then KingOfMetal? I fancy watching a couple of fantasy anime films soon but really wouldn't know what to look for. I think the last time I tried to seek out any material on youtube I was less than successful.

Can you give me any easy to find recommendations?

Far from a connoisseur, Studio Ghibli stuff mainly. But its always something I check out if I find any on TV.

The same studio who made Summer Wars also made The Girl Who Leaped Through Time, which is also very good and should be easy enough to find
