Are you under the impression that I have any faith in our Government?

Nah, you strike me as pretty level-headed. Just that the way you worded your statement, it sounded like you were saying it's idiotic that we place faith in the EU and move away from our government. My mistake.

Thank God those horrible, dangerous 'park' things and those death trap 'trees' are all closed and clearly marked as off-limits when the kids are off school for 6 weeks shortly, or there's no telling what sort of bloodbath we could have on our hands.

Legal action threatened against the Government over DLA cuts - whilst I think welfare reform should happen, I think DLA and anything that helps the physically or mentally ill should remain untouched - from what I've heard its hard enough to get as it is.

It's reasons like this Pat that some of us could never understand you arguing in favour of Government cuts to services such as this.

I'm for cuts in principle as long as they are properly thought out and aren't blanket cuts, because its easier or cheaper. Not a case of 'I'm alright, Jack' stuff, but more of actually spending the time researching what is actually needed and what isnt. The college thing for 30 quid or whatever being replaced because, the usage was not for purpose largely is one example. Yes, there are people who need the cash to get to college and what not but they are 'apparently' being catered for in the revised solution to this ( and I hope that it does work), rather than it being a sub for pocket money effectively as it appears to be the case

In cases like the DLA its cost effective not to go case by case and weed out those who are abusing the system so that its done properly and fairly, hence the we will skim and scrimp here by just removing it completely. There are other issues such as the 'media spun shirker' and everyone can name those abusing the system and so on. Ergo, that's fine to wipe them from getting dosh. Its a shame that they forget the other people who actually need it and offer no replacement in this case. other than a lower Universal benefit, where as as per above the revised system would incorporate those who actually need it. Essentially, its the double standards that go in to these things which annoys. If you are going to do it do it properly and not take the easy option as by actually sitting down and sorting it out would be better for everybody ( those getting the benefit, administration of the benefit and cost savings, future governments etc in the long run) but it very very rarely works that

As an aside but general politics related, did I read that Geert Wilders has been cleared of being anti Muslim in the Netherlands because it was found to be acceptable public debate?
