LariatTom
Graeme Swann has called his new son....Wilfred?! Â He's an English cricketer. What were you expecting?
mikey
Finally, a proper name.
Paid Members Devon Malcolm Posted February 27, 2011 Author Paid Members Share Posted February 27, 2011 Anyone following the World Cup? Fantastic game today, I think a tie was probably fair. Anderson has been terrible so far and I just wonder if England should drop him from the ODI team and leave him as a test specialist. But the batting has been outstanding and, save for the collapse near the end, the middle order hasn't really seemed to struggle despite a lack of hitting power. Â As for who will win the tournament, can't see past South Africa or Sri Lanka, really.
The Curious Orange
It's a shame Sidebottom has quit international cricket, If he was still available I think you'd see him in for Anderson as the left arm angle worked great for England in the Twenty 20 World Cup. Â What will probably be our undoing though is the lower middle order, which is fine for slogging at the end, but if we lose a couple of wickets at the start having Yardy coming in at seven shows how vulnerable we are - but with Patel too fat and Rashid never going to be trusted to bowl there isn't really any other options out there for a batsmen who can spin it. We really could do with a Hick type of player in these conditions.
Paid Members Devon Malcolm Posted February 27, 2011 Author Paid Members Share Posted February 27, 2011 What we really could do with is Ian Blackwell instead of Michael Yardy - just as tidy a spinner but a much more destructive batsman. But, if Samit Patel is apparently too fat, then Blackwell sure as fuck is.
The Curious Orange
Even if he lost the weight, Blackwell hasn't really been able to throw properly since his shoulder surgery at the start of the last county season. So that's him out the running (no pun intended) as you really can't hide a fielder with a weak arm in ODI matches now with the range of shots played around the ground. Moderators PowerButchi Posted February 27, 2011 Moderators Share Posted February 27, 2011 We really could do with a Hick type of player in these conditions. Â Yes. Preferably Hick himself. He's still got it! Fine One Day bowler.

Paid Members Devon Malcolm Posted February 27, 2011 Author Paid Members Share Posted February 27, 2011 Is Fairbrother doing anything these days? Now he could play.  Harvey was great. I still remember him and Hick and their heroic 200+ run stand in a ODI against West Indies at Lord's in 1991. Great player, great servant for Lanky for many years. He's a shifty agent now, I hear. Moderators Chest Rockwell Posted February 28, 2011 Moderators Share Posted February 28, 2011 I've never really followed cricket or got into watching it. Â I thought I'd give it a blast yesterday seeing as my neighbor is a cricket fan, and it's the only sport that India play so the only thing I can support them in. Â Damn, I picked a good game to start with, huh?! The crowd was going nuts as well, it was real cool to see.
Harvey Dent
Yeah it really was a great game yesterday. India really do have a top batting order, but ours proved we can hang with the best. I actually quite like Pietersen at the top, he was really unlucky to be caught like that. Tendulkar and Strauss were both brilliant and if it wasn't for great bowling by Bresnan we'd have probably crashed and burned. It's strange how our bowling was alright in Aus and the batting had gone to shit and it seems to have switched. Jimmy Anderson looks very tired. Happ Hazzard
Has no-one posted yet about Ireland beating England today? Amazing performance from the Irish, and pitiful performance by England. Can Kevin O Brien qualify to play for England?
mikey
To be fair, it has been coming. This has been a long old winter and I expect very little from us in the summer.
Yoghurt
England are tired, they were tired after the Tests finished, there was no need for the extra 10 games. They need a rest, the bowling attack is risking a series of serious injuries.
