Paid Members Lion_of_the_Midlands Posted February 15, 2018 Paid Members Share Posted February 15, 2018 There is only one thing that Yorkies hate more than people from outside Yorkshire, and that is people from other parts of Yorkshire. It will get a bit Judean Peoples Front/ Peoples Front Of Judea.

Obviously I can only speak of my kids, but 3 years ago I couldn't get my eldest(now 14) anywhere near Headingly for a first class game(even though Yorkshire had one of the best teams in years), or get him to sit through a Test. I started taking him to Yorkshire's T20 matches and he loved them. Since then, he has developed a passion for the longer forms of the game and is trying to get is mates into it too. I have absolutely no doubt in my mind, that if he hadn't gone to the T20s. he wouldn't have given any thought to First Class cricket. Must admit though, talented players that ditch red ball cricket isn't going to help. Although I can understand why he has done it, Rashid electing not to play First Class for Yorkshire this season gives the impression that it is a second rate game to the younger fans...
Paid Members Lion_of_the_Midlands Posted February 16, 2018 Paid Members Share Posted February 16, 2018 I don't think that it makes it look second rate. The way T20 and 50 over cricket are going they are nearly becoming a different sport from multi day cricket. The way i'm starting to look at it is this. Cricket is becoming more like athletics. Usain Bolt was brilliant at 100 and 200 metres but Jamaica didn't expect him to do the 5 and 10 thousand metres just because he was an athlete. You will get players becoming more specialised as the game goes on. There will still be the odd player who can do all of the disciplines of the game (Decathlon) but there will not be lots of them. Moderators PowerButchi Posted March 22, 2018 Moderators Share Posted March 22, 2018 I don't like cricket anymore. Especially when Boult is involved

Paid Members Lion_of_the_Midlands Posted March 22, 2018 Paid Members Share Posted March 22, 2018 That was an awful listen. That was embarrassing for a Sunday league 2nd XI let alone an international team.
Moderators PowerButchi Posted March 22, 2018 Moderators Share Posted March 22, 2018 It's a sad day when the only player with the nous to come down the wicket and play off the front foot to negate the late swing came in at number 9. England's batsmen need to recieve some strong words. Unfortuntately I doubt White-Ball-Bayliss gives too much a shite.
Guy Bifkin
We are officially shit again now. At least I can now go to my grave having enjoyed one or two years of relative success. It was fun while it lasted.
Moderators PowerButchi Posted March 23, 2018 Moderators Share Posted March 23, 2018 It's alright. There's plenty of meaningless dogshit white ball to be played yet this year.
Paid Members Lion_of_the_Midlands Posted March 23, 2018 Paid Members Share Posted March 23, 2018 Bayliss was brought in to make us better at white ball cricket and he has done that. Unfortunately we are now dogshit in tests. I'd sooner be lording it over everyone for 5 days myself, not 3 hours in a T20.
Max Power
I've been off work today and watched SA v AUS all day. A fascinating 2 days of cricket. Dean Elgar has shown the world how to bat in Test Cricket. He looks like a crab and wouldn't get runs in league cricket, but his attitude and limpet like technique makes you really earn his wicket. Contrast that with Warner who's just flailing away outside off stump and shitting himself against Rabada, it shows you that it's not just us who can't bat. In 5 years time Test Cricket will be full of journeymen who can't earn the big bucks playing T20 who are paid next to nothing with no central contracts- like years gone by. The central contracts will be for white ball cricket. And I'll be watching it.
Paid Members Lion_of_the_Midlands Posted March 24, 2018 Paid Members Share Posted March 24, 2018 Today has been joyous in the SA v Aus test. The cheating Aussies get caught on camera tampering with the ball. Then they got caught on camera trying to hide the evidence. Then they lie to the umpires about it, then they admit that they planned it in advance. If Smith and Bancroft don't get bans then there is no justice.
The Curious Orange
The ICC need to have a look at the rules as a result of this as theat of a 5 run penalty for ball tampering seems awfully light.
Paid Members Lion_of_the_Midlands Posted March 25, 2018 Paid Members Share Posted March 25, 2018 5 runs and a possible change of ball is the in game penalty. With that comes a report to the match referee and further potential sanctions after the game.  I can't wait until Warner, Bancroft, and Smith bat.
