I'd go along with that predicition except Mark Walsh. With a short format, and especially how he played at Ally Pally and in Gibralter recently, i'd say that Mardle could be the first big casualty from the Players.

Barney must up his gear ten fold to have a crack at the Power again. He didn't do much wrong in the World Final, but get beaten by a computer! My outside bet will be Robert Thornton.

Wayne Mardle can turn things up a notch from time to time though. His performance against Thornton was absolutely terrific. I don't think Walsh is capable of his Ally Pally form nearly enough, which is why he isn't higher in the rankings.

Robert Thornton still isn't good enough to beat the big guns, but give him a few months and he'll be right up there.

So the Players' Championship is done and dusted, and tonight was the first night of the Premier League, too.

Thornton did well again. The Lloyd/Taylor match was embarassing for Lloyd. He was abysmal. Taylor whitewashed him averaging only 93. You could hear Lloyd swearing loads of times when collecting his darts. Wade/Barney had a very good match. Semi's and final werent much to write home about.

Decent night of darts tonight, too. Wade/Part had a good game. Wade doesnt seem the same player as last year. He just isnt firing as well as he did last year. King was superb in destorying Mardle. Klassen was his usual hit and miss self, and Taylor/Barney was another forgetable match. The real highlight was the blond "walk on" woman wearing tight short shorts when walking down with Barney. :music: The video packages are top drawer, too.

I enjoyed the darts tonight, thought that King looked very impressive against Mardle - but will he be able to stay consistent. I may be stomping over old ground (maybe not) but is Wayne Mardle the darts equivalent of Gazza (excluding the drink problem/crazyness). He just seems to prefer being the class clown/getting the crowd buzzing which I know is part of his act than really concentrating, buckling down and showing what he really can do.

As mentioned previously Klaasen was inconsistent and wayward which he can sometimes be, he just seemd to keep winning legs and then his first throw back would hit under 70 and then Jenkins would go on to hit a much higher score leaving him trailing.

Mardle was hilarious before the match. Jumping all over the place, jacking the crowd up. Then when it came to actually playing darts, he was shit. King is also easily good enough to be 4th in this league. Will be between him and Jenks. Thats even presuming Wade and Barney are untouchable to get top 4, which they may not be this year.

As for Barney, I think its just because hes realised hes no longer in Taylor's league. Even before the World final, he basically conceded that he didnt have much of a chance. Hes probably realised he cant hang with Taylor, so wont get to bothered if he starts falling way behind (like he did yesterday).

James Wade, if he doesn't buck up his ideas, won't even make the playoffs. I'd say King is a much safer bet for a spot than Wade is. His match with John Part wasn't very good at all, and probably one of the worst draws I've seen in the DPL. Thankfully, Jenkins and Klaasen went on to play a blinder after that.

I really enjoyed the Jenkins v Klassen match, I'll support Klassen throughout the tournament but some of his shots can be so far off its unreal. King looked good but Mardle was never there. Barney really didn't seem interested, I think he really has lost the belief that he can beat Taylor and caves in pretty easily.

I can see the top 4 being Taylor, Barney, King and Klassen. Jenkins will be consistent but will draw too many or lose by the odd couple of legs, it will be tight for 4th and I'm probably being biased to Klassen to be honest. I don't see Mardle or Part coming close. As for Wade, he just isn't the same player he was not long ago and for some reason I just can't see him having a big burst back to form like Taylor, I think it might take him a few months to get back to top form....too late to get in the top 4 here.

Looks like Gary Anderson is also crossing over to the PDC, although this time its not the constant rumour mill grinding we always hear shortly after the World championships. Darryl Fitton and Gary Robson may join him too since they have the MIB exhibition team going.

Good start to the Premier League last night, Taylor again looking head and shoulders above the rest, the 125 outshot being the icing on the cake and also Mervyn King looking very good against a very uninterested Wayne Mardle.
