Parkamarka Posted June 27, 2007 Posted June 27, 2007 (edited) Regarding whether or not Benoit "sought help"... I can't help wondering about the several-month hiatus he took last year, which was purportedly to allow various nagging injuries to heal up. Perhaps it was, in reality, a stress-related break in response to burgeoning psychological problems. That's all speculation, obviously, but this whole business just makes me think that we as a culture have both a woeful lack of understanding of mental health, and that this view of mental illness as a weakness of character - of something to be ashamed of - leads to such unhealthy bottling up of problems. The fact that there is such a massive discrepancy between the Chris Benoit that people knew and the Chris Benoit that did this... I can't help feeling there's a possibility he could have been at least on the spectrum of problems associated with schizophrenia or a similar personality disorder.I'm sorry but I just can't agree with the assessment that he is a "monster" that should "burn in hell". Something terrible happened to that man, that in turn made him do some unforgivable things. I can't even pretend to understand it, let alone take a firm position on it. Stylin_and_Profilin Posted June 27, 2007 Posted June 27, 2007 Thats morbid. Really messed up. Also surprised they didn't 'xxxxx' out his home address.Watching ECW on Sci-Fi just now and McMahon just came up and basically said Benoits name won't be mentioned again on WWE TV.

BurningHammer Posted June 27, 2007 Posted June 27, 2007 ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) - A professional wrestler who killed himself and his family was a former customer of a company implicated in an upstate New York investigation of illegal steroid sales. That's according to the Albany County District Attorney's Office, which is conducting the investigation here.Authorities in Fayetteville, Georgia, say today that Chris Benoit strangled his wife, suffocated his 7-year-old son before hanging himself over the weekend.Investigators found anabolic steroids in the house and want to know whether the muscular man was unhinged by the bodybuilding drugs, which can cause paranoia, depression and explosive outbursts known as "roid rage."In Albany, the DA's office confirms the 40-year-old Benoit was a customer as recently as last year of the south Florida company MedXLife.2 of its co-owners pleaded guilty to drug charges in Albany County in April, admitting they helped get prescriptions drugs in 2006 for customers in upstate New York who had no medical need for them. The pair testified Signature Pharmacy of Orlando filled the orders.MedXLife, no longer taking orders, attracted customers through its Web site. That's how the steroids in the house had a prescription then.

hbk4life Posted June 27, 2007 Posted June 27, 2007 Vinces full message that aired before ECW, taken from wwe.com:Last night on Monday Night Raw, the WWE presented a special tribute show, recognizing the career of Chris Benoit. However, now some 26 hours later, the facts of this horrific tragedy are now apparent. Therefore, other than my comments, there will be no mention of Mr. Benoit tonight. On the contrary, tonight's show will be dedicated to everyone who has been affected by this terrible incident. This evening marks the first step of the healing process. Tonight, the WWE performers will do what they do better than anyone else in the world--entertain you.
Paid Members wolfvinson Posted June 27, 2007 Paid Members Posted June 27, 2007 I'm not going to post my thoughts on this yet. Still stunned.Just read this though.. From News1130.com:We may never know the reasons behind Chris Benoit's decision to take the life of his wife, young son and himself. However, a Delta woman, who was in contact with the Canadian wrestler a few years ago, said she might have some insight into the family. Pam Winthrope said Benoit's son had a genetic condition called Fragile X syndrome. Winthrope said she has experienced the condition first hand and knows how it can tear a family apart.Fragile X syndrome is an inherited mental impairment. Pam's 12-year-old son has the condition and she said in an effort to shed light on the syndrome, her husband called Chris Benoit about five years ago.She said, "We talked to him because I was trying to set up a support group in BC and in Canada, we only have a couple of them. My husband was struggling when we got diagnosed with our son, and Chris was struggling with his. They talked for a few minutes and then he said he didn't want to be a public face for Fragile X, he just wanted to keep it really, really quiet."Winthrope said she couldn't believe the news that Benoit had taken his life along with his wife and 7-year-old son. She added that families can be torn apart by the disease because it's very difficult to find help and support. She said, "You as a parent have to go out there and find what's available and it's not easy --they don't tell you."Authorities offered no motive for the killings, which were spread out over a weekend, and would not discuss Benoit

Steve Justice Posted June 27, 2007 Posted June 27, 2007 I'm sorry, but depression of ANY level should not drive any person to murder. If you murder whilst depressed, you are a murderer nevertheless.Congratulations on pointing out the obvious. It's confirmed he did it. I feel sick. Honestly sick. Part of me wants to keep coming up with theories as to why he did it. Depression etc. I've had depression and know it can be very very hard, but never would I have considered killing anyone, let alone the ones I love. The ability to do it must've been inside him anyway.I had a lot of respect for the man, but it's slipping away. I'm not the sort to say 'Rot in hell' but I retract my earlier 'Rest in Peace'.Nancy and Daniel, RIP.Good God you really are a fucktard.Like many illnesses their are different levels of severity. Depression is a mental illness and can drive you to do things that are really not normal for you.And who said he was depressed anyway? As someone who actually works in acute and secure mental health services I wanna point out I have never ever come across someone who killed due to depression. You say depression can make you do things you wouldnt do usually... to yourself? yes... to others? I have never ever seen it.MikeI didn't actually mean depression could drive someone to murder. I was merely pointing out the complete stupidity in rockbus post. I've seen depression and been around it. Suffered with it myself for a short while. Self harm is the only out of character effect I've seen/been through.A man's family have died today in tragic circumstances, and people like you coming onto this thread to just wind up people honestly affected by it are starting to do my head in. A lot of people are honestly in shock/grieving and people like you coming on just to get people's backs up is starting to get annoying. Of the 80 odd pages in this thread, 20 of those are probably arguing, and I for one have had enough. If all you are going to do is insult people, don't bother. You wouldn't do it to their faces, but because you have the safety of a computer screen feel you can say what you like. It's time some respect was shown in this thread to those that have been affected, whether it's those involved, those close to them, or people who have followed the careers of those involved for maybe 20 years.I certainly hope others feel the same.A man's family didn't die. A man killed his family then killed himself. BIG difference. And I'm not coming on here to wind people up. I've made 4 posts int this thread (including this one). One of them was pointing out the idiocy of your post. Just you, no one else. Get over it.I've read on a couple of sites that the texts that were sent by Benoit contained passages from the Bible and details of his will. Has this been confirmed?I imagine, considering their was no suicide note, that we will never find out why all this happened in the first place. That's got to be difficult all family members and close friends. Also, any word from Kevin Sullivan (he was married to Nancy once wasn't he??).
