I read this in a free London paper today. Shocking.Nobody knows exactly what happened yet, but WWE will have to work overtime to rehabilitate Benoit. If he had killed another wrestler in fight and then topped himself that would be one thing, but for the foreseeable future he is persona non-grata in terms of glowing memories.I was never a Benoit fan, he lacked the charisma needed, but was a solid wrestler and I respected his workrate.Another wrestler connected with the Hart family has a tragic end......................

The way the WWE site went from 'Benoit tribute' when his death was initially reported to matter-of-fact reporting of the emerging gruesome details, removed video clips of the tributes from Raw, and removed all mention of Benoit from Shopzone once it became clear what had happened, I doubt rehabilitation is even in the minds of WWE right now, and may not be for years to come.

I said it before, but can I have everyone's agreement that I can bring up all the "we can't judge him" comments next time a celebrity is accused of something bad in an off-topic thread? Seriously, how many of you would say the same about OJ Simpson, even though he was found not guilty by a jury of his peers?

I think a more pertinent example of this would be Randy Orton. You definitely have my agreement.

Was the "family emergency" that Nancy called him home for ever discovered?

Seems like it was used to cover for his absence at the Saturday house show, before details emerged.

I might just be infering this, rather than actually stating fact, but I think he phoned in/contacted WWE and said he wasn't going to be at the shows due to a family emergancy at home. In reality he'd killed his wife. This may be incorrect though, but just how I currently understand it.

I think the feeling is that there was no emergency, and that it is basically the cover story Chris used to get out of his weekend wrestling dates

Well it has even made the news over here in Holland... At least online at the RTL-news site... RTL being one of the biggest Dutch stations...And they never report anything about wrestling here!

Bob Ryder at 1wrestling.com recently spoke with close friends and confidants of Chris Benoit, there were apparently warning signs that something was wrong with Benoit. One person who wanted to remain nameless said:"This wasn't roid rage, this was insanity. Roid rage doesn't last for 48 hours. There were signs that something was wrong. Stories have emerged that a year ago he became paranoid and believed he was being followed. He wouldn't let Nancy leave the house because he believed someone was out to get them."

How many more wrestlers are going to die though??When someone like Chris takes as many drugs as reported in order to be able to perform that he kills his own family, that is fucked up. One really wonders what pressures McMahon has his workers under and which will be next to go in hopefully less tragic circumstances. Where does this leave WWE?? Surely someone needs to look into the companies practises.

As a mother who understands the immense love for her children i would assume that Benoit had mental health problems brought on by steriod use which led him to do what he did, no one in a normal state of mind would have done that to their family. The sad thing is as no suicide notes were left and unless something comes to light from the text messages he sent we will probably never know what tipped him over the edge, this is why i'd rather remember him as an elite wrestler than label him a murderer.
