Rossman
Groves came across a massive dick, real cringeworthy performance of trying to be a tough-guy. He's not going to knock Froch out thats a gurantee its more like the other way round. He's already been down in sparring with a head guard on which he tried to make light of in the interview. Groves has got rid of Adam Booth because he knows this is his biggest payday so he wants as much money out of it before he goes back down to domestic level. Â Triple G is in action tonight against knockout specialist Curtis Stevens. I've seen Stevens a couple of times on ESPN doing what he does. A compact fighter who loves to go on the attack looking for a knockout. The big problem for him is that Golovkin is on another level. The losses he does have are against fighters not as good as Golovkin. Golovkins problem is that he's too good, no-one wants to fight him. Â Nathan Cleverly's coming back, he's leaving the 2nd weakest division to go and fight in the weakest division. Yes, the desirable cruiserweight division. He's got a fight at the Copperbox for the Commonwealth title against Australian, Daniel Ammann. After the pounding he took from Kovalev, Ammann seems a perfect choice as he has won 29 fights, 6 of those are KO's.
Paid Members Egg Shen Posted November 3, 2013 Author Paid Members Share Posted November 3, 2013 (edited) Golovkin cruised. It took a while because Stevens defence was so tight that Golovkin couldn't find a way through, but there was never any doubt. Â Steven's isn't quite sure what's hit him Edited November 3, 2013 by Ebb
David
Great, I'll watch that over the weekend. These boxing documentaries are coming thick and fast lately aren't they? Â Can't wait for the Gatti vs Ward Legendary Nights. I've got some free time this week, so I've armed myself with these documentaries plus the actual fights that go along with them. Should be fun! Paid Members Egg Shen Posted November 4, 2013 Author Paid Members Share Posted November 4, 2013 some shitty news coming after the war between Mike Perez and Magomed Abdusalamov (from the undercard of Golovkin-Stevens), Abdusalamov was placed in a medically induced coma and had brain surgery to remove a blood clot, he is stable though. Gooner
GGG looked awesome as per usual. He took his time to finish the job and I thought he could have got the stoppage sooner, but with the power Stevens has I can see why he picked his moments. I'd love to see him next in against Martinez or Quillen but more likely they'll face one another and avoid GGG which would be the smart option. A move up to 168lbs to take on Ward would also be great to see, he's even talked and put feelers out that he'd be ready to drop down to 154lbs to face Mayweather, I can't see that happening but its a great thought. Mr Lawrence
Pacman Rios and Broner Maidana are the only fights there look forward to really. Be interesting to see how the criwd react in China to the pacman fight. It starts at 10am in china so should be on about 2am over here. If the fights a huge success they reckon theyll be alot more fights over there due to the little tax the fighters have to pay. Where its being held is meant to be a place very similar to Vegas. Paid Members wandshogun09 Posted November 9, 2013 Paid Members Share Posted November 9, 2013 (edited) I haven't seen Toney on Ringside yet but I've got it in my planner to catch up on. He's been punchy for a long time now hasn't he. It's quite scary when you think what an awesome defensive fighter he was in his prime, and even later. And even he's still ended up slurring and stammering his way through interviews. Â For as incredible a fighter as Toney was in his day, I actually think he's a pretty big underachiever. I think he could have been seen as one of the best of all time if he'd kept himself in shape and kept his head on right. He's still given his due as one of the pound for pound best of his era, but I think he could've been even better. Â I was watching a load of Toney fights a few months back and it's easy to forget now he's all fat and diminished, what a brilliant boxer he was at his best. The masterclass he put on in the Iran Barkley fight still blows me away. And his fights with Michael Nunn and Mike McCallum were great. The real must see of Toney's career is the Vassily Jirov fight though. An absolute war and one of my favourite fights to watch. The Barkley fight was probably his best performance, but Jirov was his best fight from what I've seen. Â And look up his KOs over Charles Williams and Jason Robinson on YouTube. Proper highlight reel stuff. Â Speaking of highlight reels, I love this Toney highlight; http://www.youtube.com/watch?app=desktop&a...p;v=K8PX8O7mHIE Â Look at the head movement, his work off the ropes and his hand speed in the Barkley clips. That's vintage Toney at his best there. I love the interview clips as well. "He said 'Uhh'. Then BOW! Left hook. That right hand was sumthin' terrible". Poor Jim Grey. Toney did not make his job easy did he? Edited November 9, 2013 by wandshogun09
jimufctna24
Steve Collins said that Toney used to not take it seriously, drinking Coke instead of water at sparring sessions. I think most would agree he could have become more than what he was. Â He also had the misfortune of being in the same era as a prime Roy Jones. Toney if you look at his record could be inconsistent in his pomp as well. I still quite like him though, even through his mumbling jibberish on Ringside there was a few good barbs against other fighters you could just about catch. Paid Members wandshogun09 Posted November 9, 2013 Paid Members Share Posted November 9, 2013 Toney if you look at his record could be inconsistent in his pomp as well. Â That's the thing though, even in his prime he had all distractions outside the ring, problems with his management, problems with his discipline and weight. He coasted by mostly on pure talent even back then from what I've read. Obviously the bad habits have got worse over the years and now he's a fat fuck. Â I've heard the stories of him drinking Coke in camp as well. Johnny Tapia was the same, in his book he said most of his career he used to eat Snickers and drink Dr Pepper through camps. Some of that's probably exaggerated a bit but I don't doubt it with guys like that. Just imagine what they could've done had they committed fully to a proper strength and conditioning program and dieted right.
