I'm not a big Tom Hanks fan and seeing as it was written by, directed and starred him I figured it'd get me to sleep pretty quickly, but sadly I got into it and watched to the end. I wouldn't say it was a five star film and was pretty predictable the whole way through, but it seemed enjoyable enough. Though I have to stop watching movies when I need to sleep... With my VCR finally dead the films I can watch while working has halved, so I need to find stuff that may interest me...

Seriously dude, I know you love me, but stop following me around trying to put me down, its getting embarrasing for you... RE Pixar, I think the best film now is Wall.E. Its certainly their most gutsy - it runs as a border line silent feature. Toy Story 2 is also one of the only four films I believe suprass the original (others being Aliens, Godfather Part 2, and Terminator 2). But to be fair, Monsters Inc, Finding Nemo, and to a slightly lesser extent, Bugs Life, are all amazing! Edited November 13, 2008 by Roger

Agent Strahm is friggin hilarious with his little monologues. He should just say "HEY AUDIENCE, LET'S WATCH THIS FLASHBACK" and be done with it. "HOw did you get him?" "We were supposed to die, and you were supposed to be the hero" and "I've got you". Fucking awful. They should have come up with some generic partner (Agent Plott-Devyse) who dies before the end, just so Strahm has someone to talk to. Oh, and "WE WERE SUPPOSED TO WORK TOGETHER" is a George Lucas-esque bit of wank dialogue. Anyone who hasn't figured it out by this point really doesn't deserve to and should choke on their own moronic confusion. Still struggling with the huge flaw in the first movie that was Amanda's "test". Seriously, Jigsaw has to stop saying he's never killed anyone until we've seen an explanation for that shit. In that test, somebody absolutely has to die. Either Amanda gets her head ripped open or the guy gets disembowelled. The only possible explanation is that the guy on the floor who she cuts open has failed his test and has thus ended up in that position. It struck me again in this movie because they keep hammering this point home that Jigsaw doesn't kill people and that the inescapable traps that Amanda and Hoffman had made are not Jigsaw-like at all. Hoffman is dreadful too. Don't know if he's trying to be a film noir detective type with homicidal tendencies or if he's just a douchebag, but it was a shocking performance. The junkie and the journalist were also rubbish. Julie Benz was good (what a wonderful lady she is ), Tobin Bell is always good, the story was tighter and more coherent than the garbled mess that was the Saw 3/Saw 4 merger and thus it was a better movie, but they really are stretching now. You can do so much retconning before even the most diehard fans will call bullshit on it all. Also still watching Alias. Man it's a fun show. The random appearances keep coming thick and fast too. Christian Slater, Ethan Hawke, Melissa "LOL BRITISH LOL" George, David Carradine, Danny motherfucking Trejo... just don't know who you'll see next. Fantastic. Up to season 3 and I'm still enjoying it. It's not as strong as 1 and 2, mainly because the story arc for 3 has been a bit difficult to swallow, but I'm still gripped. Loving Arvin Sloane and Jack Bristow as characters, amongst many others. Lastly, rom-com fans will be pleased to know that I have "What happens in Vegas..." lined up next for my reviewing pleasure.

I had the one discer, but had to buy this for the new special features, in particular the documentaries. I was not let down, it was fantastic! Very insightful, and very, very well made!
Harvey Dent Posted November 17, 2008 Posted November 17, 2008 Went to see Zack and Miri Make A Porno on friday night. Its a very Kevin Smith film and is pretty damn funny. Seth Rogen is his usual self here and although he shows a slightly different side of himself, hes still pretty much the same as he is in every other role hes done. But I like him so I dont have a problem with. The sex scenes themselves are all pretty purposly comic and amusing and the whole thing is just pretty fun and entertaining to watch. If you like Kevin Smith movies then give this one a watch. On the flip side, I just got back from seeing Max Payne. With the exeception of getting to look at the stunningly beautiful Olga Kurylenko for a little while, its really not worth your time. The plot is thin, the action is lackluster, the direction is uninspired and its just generally bland for 100 minutes. Wahlberg is better than this and hes really not given much to work with. Looking forward to seeing Body of Lies next week.

But then again, fans go in with certain expectations and the films don't provide what they expected. The games genre is always gonna be in a tough spot. an example of non-fans is this: i was talking to a workmate the other day who said he saw the trailer for Max Payne, he said 'it looked pretty cool until that dragon thing turned up at the end, then it looked abit weird'. Obviously he'd seen the game, he'd have known what it was (i aint got a clue what it was either, ive never played Max Payne, i guess it was the bad guy?). They're never gonna make sense to everyone.

I wasn't expecting it to be as good as the original, but by god I didn't expect it to be that bad either. A real poor excuse of a film that should never have been made. It was really fucking stupid, Kevin Nash was tremendous. 10/10. I finally got round to seeing (most of) Forgetting Sarah Marshall the other day. It was pretty damn funny. Story was hugely predictable, but it wouldn't be a romcom if it wasn't so hey - they delivered the goods within the parameters of the genre they were working in. The main guy was really good; I'm not sure I've seen him in anything else. I thought the bit when they were all having dinner together, and they were talking about the shit film that Sarah Marshall had acted in about mobile phones killing people was a subtle dig at Pulse - which that actress was in..? I'm pretty sure it was. By subtle I mean only about 5 people saw Pulse and would have bothered to remember it well enough to get the reference. Also it was good to see Rachel Bilson back on my TV screen She was always bestest in the OC. Russell Brand was pretty much playing himself. He was OK I guess.... When are they gonna do a film in which that fat kid with the curly hair plays Seth Rogen's son? It has to happen at some point.

They often seem to make a special effort to alienate both casual movie-goers and fans of the source material. Also, they tend to just be cynical cash-ins, which is quite ironic given how many shitty games have been spawned from movies. In the same way that people cringe when they see another movie-licensed game, the increasing prevalence of videogames as a form of mainstream entertainment means that gamers are now cringeing when they see a game-licensed movie. This is why I champion Mortal Kombat by the way. It captured the tone and spirit of the game whilst delivering a fun action movie. Yeah it's a bit B-movie at times, Goro looks totally ridiculous and the acting isn't stellar (though Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa is awesome), but it delivers much of what a fan would want whilst not necessarily turning everyone else off. You can tell Boon and Tobias had enough input to stop it outraging the fans, but not enough that it stopped everybody else following it. Streetfighter remains the biggest abomination. I'd take any of Uwe Boll's efforts over that. They set Guile as the main character, had Ryu and Ken as a sideshow, reinvented Blanka's history, made Sagat a puny businessman, Dee-Jay an I.T. desk-jockey and did just about every other conceivable thing imagineable to make fans of the games loathe it. To compound this, they delivered a movie that sucked balls on every other level. The only redeeming feature of that whole movie for me is that their Vega is kick-ass. That's it. That Raul Julia wasted any of his time on it is a travesty. Dead or Alive is fantastic. Not a good movie by any conventional standard, but it captured the game to perfection. The games are brash, shallow, pretty to look at and full of gratuitous titilation. The movie delivered all of these things, didn't take itself seriously whatsoever and is a whole lot of fun as a result. Another issue with the game movies is that games which have clearly taken so much inspiration from cinema are now being made back into the movies that inspired them, and it seems completely redundant to do so. It's like the talk of a Metal Gear Solid movie - that game is so cinematic and takes its cues from so many films that it seems pointless to make a film out of the game itself. Oh, and I need to see Forgetting Sarah Marshall badly. I love Kristen Bell a whole lot, which is weird as I don't often go for the Aryan look, but Rachel Bilson is better still. Didn't know she was in it. Also the Apatow comedies are generally good for some laughs. Knocked up > Superbad, by the way. Yeah, I took it there.

I watched all of The OC, Jumper and I even watched "The Last Kiss" god damn it. I went and checked, and I think you lied to me Rockwell! Mila Kunis is purdy enough but I struggle with her horrible voice and the fact that said voice is too strongly tied to Meg Griffin. I preferred the ginger one in That 70s show, does that make me a bad person?
