CM Punk left AEW after he beat MJF in the Dog Collar match. It concluded a fantastic, healthy run. Everything he did after that fact was actually Tony Khan having a bad dream. Cody Rhodes went back in time and killed Pat McAfee as a child. He never appeared in the Wrestlemania 42 build up. Quote

Paid Members Lorne Malvo Posted September 2 Author Paid Members Posted September 2 (edited) All Out 2019 - The gears finally seem to be clicking with this promotion. There's a sense of forward momentum and excitement in this show that seemed to be missing from the past three shows, probably owing to the fact they're plugging the upcoming 'AEW on TNT' weekly show at every opportunity (I'm assuming they didn't have the name Dynamite down yet). There's still a lot of rough edges and amateur moments but not half as many as the previous shows. - In saying that, the Womens Casino Battle royale is classic Early AEW. Just too much stuff going on, hampered by a shit stipulation and with too many people the crowd don't know/care about. There's a few good moments - Britt Baker making a beeline for Bea Priestly as soon as Bea hits the stage is a great touch - but for every one of there's a hundred bits that fall flat. Also the camera work is really bad here, surprise entrants and important eliminations are constantly missed. It's an eclectic lineup to say the least - there's your AEW womens mainstays like Britt Baker, Nyla Rose, Penelope Ford, indie people I'd never heard of like Faby Apache and Shazza Mckenzie, people I'd forgot existed like Big Swole and 'legends' like ODB & Jazz(!) Most of the women work hard to be fair, but it's a match that's just booked all wrong. - Most egregious moment is probably heel Brandi Rhodes being the one to take Nyla Rose off her feet with a stunner. Rubbish. - The recurring theme of the night for the crowd seems to be 'good match with the wrong winner'. It starts with SCU vs Jurassic Express - both teams are over but the crowd were desperate for a Jurassic Express win here. I don't dislike SCU but there's just something about them that I can't engage with at all - I feel maybe they would've been better suited as a heel team. Plus their opening 'worst town I've ever been in' shtick is sub-DX rubbish. - Omega vs Pac is maybe the best AEW match so far by this point. An absolute cracker. I criticise Pac a lot for his 'I'm here, now I'm not' act but when he's on form he is excellent. Again though, the ending to this seemed to deflate the crowd a little - they botched a few spots then went straight to Omega passing out to the Brutaliser for the finish. It becomes obvious on this show that 'are Omega's best days behind him' is the story they're going for, but as I mentioned last time, they probably should've showcased him a little better for the wider audience before they jumped into that! - Janela vs Havoc vs Darby is the kind of mad hardcore match you'd expect from those three. All three take some mental bumps in this. Again, the crowd seemed a bit let down at Havoc winning over Darby. I can't remember if they did something where Darby had to fight long and hard to get his first AEW win, but it seems mad you'd have him go from a time-limit draw with Cody to getting pinned by Spears to not even being involved in the finish in this match. - The Dark Order are not over at all. Both guys work hard but the presentation and gimmick is all wrong at this point, and if memory serves me correctly it takes them months to get it right. I tell you who is over though. The lights go out and when they come back up, Orange Cassidy makes his AEW return! Man I fucking love that guy. - Jim Ross has been really good the past few shows, but I think this is where Grumpy JR first shows up. Really takes you out of a match when he's moaning about 'why wouldn't he go for a pinfall?!' every 10 minutes. Cheer up mate, you're only getting paid to call pro wrestling. - I really liked Cody vs Shawn Spears. It's a real meat-and-potatoes match that's never going to set the world on fire, but all of it worked for me. Especially Arn Anderson hitting the ring and laying Spears out with a beauty of a spinebuster! - On the other hand, Lucha Bros vs Young Bucks in a ladder match was awful. Just the most choreographed shit possible, nothing organic or in the moment, just pure gymnastics. I feel the Bucks are nowhere near as bad for this stuff as I used to think they were, but these four guys always seemed to bring the worst instincts out in each other. Santana & Ortiz debut at the end to a pretty great pop. I miss those guys. - The main event of Hangman vs Painmaker is your standard slower-paced Jericho effort, but I really enjoyed it. Just two hefty lads really laying into each other. The crowd seem pro-Jericho to a pretty big extent but I don't think Hangman had had much of a chance to show his character to the wider audience yet, so it may have taken a while for people to buy into him. The Judas Effect had looked pretty weak the first few times Jericho hit it but they nailed it here, it looked brutal. - A really good show for the most part then, even if I hated the ladder match and thought most of the wrong people went over. Although at the time I thought them putting the belt on Jericho first was a mistake - looking back it makes absolute sense, both business and storyline/character-wise. I'm glad they were phased out pretty quickly (at least that's how I remember it anyway). Scorpio Sky in particular has always been a guy who has it all on paper but has never been able to get people to care about him at all. Quote

I think my favourite thing any of them did in AEW was Kazarians 'Elite Hunter' run, where he said he was going to take out the Elite one by one but what actually happened is that all of them kicked his arse and roundly beat him with little issue. Made him look a right mug but as someone whose never got on with Kazarian I enjoyed it. Quote

I wonder if a workaround for this might be to start watching it on your browser, and then, if there is a 'continue watching' feature for the app (and I can't recall if there is or not!), wouldn't it then flag on your account and then come up on your Roku app when you next used it? It's a good idea in theory - thank you for the suggestion. However as far as I can recall there's no 'continue watching' on the Roku app - I watched All Out 2019 in two sittings and had to re-scroll through all the PPVs to find it again. It's not the best app in the world, it's fair to say. Quote

His tag team with Ethan Page was objectively brilliant, and it's a huge shame they split up, but outside of that I've always found Sky to be incredibly bland. His ring work is fine, his mic work is fine and his look is fine, but he doesn't excel in any area. When a roster is as stacked as the AEW roster, that's a problem. Sky Flight is probably the blandest stable AEW has ever offered up, amazingly made even more bland through the addition of Matt Sydal. But I could see him getting a main event run in TNA, if he ever fancied a pay cut. Quote
