Not quite digging this series yet. Not bad but we've had several amazing runs and this isn't quite hitting. Adoyade 'in character' hits the wrong note. 

Tapings for Taskmaster S23 happened this week. My opinion on the lineup

The issue i'm having with this season is, it's got a bit of every element that can make Taskmaster occasionally difficult to watch.

It's got people I don't particularly like (Lucas for being awful, Nina Conti for being rubbish, Ayoade for being a letdown); it's got too many convoluted tasks with little payoff and, the thing that can save it isn't there; there doesn't seem to be much warmth between the contestants as a group.

Actually, i'd go a step further and say too many of them aren't naturally funny in an off the cuff setting. Only Chloe is a panel show regular stand up, and I think it shows.

They're great, and I think it's a shame they're not on with a better group.

If I was trying to be objective, i'd say Ayoade is maybe the funniest so far, as an individual, but a) meh and b) his act might have laughs, but it sort of fucks this format when you need the awkward hermit Moss character to be part of a group.

Like I say i'd love to see Chloe on with other stand-ups they could bounce off.

That genuine pissed off look Chloe gave during the group task is the angriest anyone has ever been on Taskmaster, id say. A genuine look of "Ive wanted to do this show for years, realise what a great opportunity it is to raise my profile, and they've put me with these arseholes".

Chloe must be gutted that they're on with this lot. Like daz said, absolutely no chemistry or banter between the group, and nothing for them to work with. 

Some really bad tasks/attempts so far this season too. The bed frame one, the before/after picture, amongst others. Even the episide just gone, the table one was shit (at the end you expect there to be a clever twist that someone should of spotted, but there was nothing), the armpit art attempts were shit, and the ear piece one was abysmal and didn't work at all.

Apologies for being so negative! Looking at the next lineup, I wonder if Horne had realised he dropped a massive bollock by picking so many later middle aged people in this one, and made sure he didn't made the same mistake again.

100% made Acaster, Sheersmith, and Gamble all look chilled out in comparison.

This series has been a right dud.

Ayoade acting like he’s above the whole thing, Nina Conti busting out that ventriloquist mask thing she’s been doing for donkey’s years and has never been funny- just a complete disaster.

Ive seen every episode so I know that I’ll end up watching it for completists sake, but I can’t imagine this will be a well remembered series unless they seriously turn things around in the second half of it
