I find it hard to watch Roman these days, the teeth are so astonishingly bright. It’s genuinely distracting. They’re like Ross in that one episode of Friends except we’re still meant to take Roman seriously.

John Cena in Pluribus felt very very on brand to this thread. Like casting Keanu Reeves to be confused by things in the Matrix casting John Cena as a pod person who appears human can't quite convey humanity was quite the casting stroke, he had the exact cadence of "house rules" from that clip. It now feels plausible that John Cena eats other people and that's the secret to his success. I'm not going to try and convince my brain otherwise.

Ive always had my own thoughts as to why Cena acts the way he does. It wouldnt be proper to state them here, especially when its based almost solely on public appearances. I will say though that my read on this is probably different from most in that I see him as very human, and that includes the behavior that might be seen as odd. 

He's obviously trying extremely hard to maintain a very controlled public persona whilst navigating the minefield that is being a high profile person in the modern age. I suspect he feels he's made some misteps earlier in his career, and that dog's still following him to an extent. It looks like he's exercising what control he does have to make sure he doesnt end up in a shitstorm, or at the very least that he comes across as a decent guy who's got his shit together. 

He's in a position where he's been at the absolute top of one industry while trying to get in on the ground floor in another. Instead of embracing the comfort and security that comes with being on top, he's now trying to appeal to a new audience, and one that understandably may have certain preconceptions about the business he's been a central figure in for the previous two decades. We've seen a few examples of people who've been able to negotiate that jump a lot more effortlessly, but in a lot of ways I can relate to why it comes across that he isnt being himself. Perhaps after such a long time this genuinely is who he is now, and even if it isnt its brought him success in almost everything hes turned his hand to so I can understand why he'd cling rigidly to a winning formula.
