Who is The Best Wrestler In The World (at this current moment in time)?

There's always endless discussion on the best of all time, the Mount Rushmore of wrestling etc. but who do you think is the best wrestler in the world right at this exact moment?

For me, I think I have to go with "Timeless" Toni Storm. It's not even a particularly difficult choice. She's created what could be a fairly one note character and developed it into a fully fleshed out multi-layered creation that manages to be lovable, believable, hilariously funny and convincing as a fighting Champion. Storm is absolutely bursting with charisma and whatever promo, vignette or backstage segment she does there's always something new, creative and worthwhile in it. She can cut a top babyface promo getting over a big title match as a huge deal that you have to see while saying some of the most insane things you will ever hear. And match wise she never has a dud - her matches are full of babyface fire, incredible selling, airtight psychology and drama. She's so good that anytime someone talks about "who should beat Toni for the title?" my immediate reaction is "I don't want anyone to beat her for the title". On top of all that, the "All about Mariah" story is one of the best stories of all time. Who knew that the lame, 80s metal rock star Toni Storm had that within her.

So who do you think is the best thing right now?

If you'd told me a few years back that I'd happily go for Will Ospreay then I would've laughed in your face, but it's hard for me to go for anyone else.

He always reminded me of early AJ Styles in that if he just focused in a little bit, became more than just a flippy highlight reel and was able to get people properly invested, then he'd be as good or even better than Styles.

He absolutely showed that improvement and focus in the latter part of his career in Japan and I feel like that's allowed him to be the star he is in AEW today.

Not only that but his promo work in AEW has been far beyond anything I'd expected from him, so kudos to him and whoever has worked on that.

You only had to watch how he was treated at Forbidden Door to know how adored he is by fans and he's absolutely earned that. Match after match after match on PPVs where there were bangers from start to finish and he still managed to be the best thing on the card most nights.

It's scary how consistently good the guy can be.

I can barely choose between Toni Storm and Adam Page. For all of the reasons Gooshy has mentioned, Toni is utterly brilliant, is absorbed in her character, always delivers fun in and out of the ring and feels like the biggest star every time she's on the screen.

Hangman Page has similar qualities in terms of how faithful his character is, how he carries himself like a star and how he bursts off the screen but, is completely different in his presentation and in how seriously he takes himself and his role. 

Completing my top 3 would be the always brilliant, ever-reliable, 9/10 promo, 9/10 worker that is Jon Moxley. I don't think he's as captivating as the other two currently which takes him down but he's generally very good in everything he does in the ring or on the mic and he's been at the top level consistently for most of the last 6 years. 

On balance, I think it's Toni.

I second @DavidB6937 and echo exactly what he said above. I think changing that style a little bit, really working on his promo he is definitely the MVP at the moment. I think he is the full package right now

Another one for Will O'Spreay. No one's more surprised than me!

Ever since he got to AEW I think. He's slowed down so much, and made everything mean a lot more.
He's had nothing but cracking matches in the last two or so years too.

This is a difficult one, but I’d have to plump for Hangman Page.

He’s tremendous in ring, and I struggle to think of a bad Hangman match - the same could be said about Ospreay, but what elevates Hangman for me is that he has a more carefully considered story arc and character than arguably any wrestler ever. His story is deep and connected, it’s not just a collection of things-that-happen, it all makes sense and what motivates him is always clear. 

Face or heel, he cuts the best promo in wrestling - Ospreay and Storm are both good, but I’d argue that Hangman is better. A lot better. And that says something, because they are both tremendous.

I’d also throw Mercedes Mone’s name into the conversation. She’s a terrible promo, but her matches are so fucking good that no one cares about that anymore. When your promos are that bad, and people enjoy you anyway, that’s pretty remarkable - she’s been wrestling banger match after banger match and whatever she’s being paid by Tony Khan is absolutely justified. 

If I was to throw a WWE wrestler’s name into the mix, it would have to be Iyo Sky. She doesn’t rank above any of the others I’ve mentioned, but she’s probably the best they have.

It might not be the stand out choice for many but for me it's Sami Zayn. 

There is nothing you can give this man that he will not get the absolute maximum out of. Promos, selling, acting and incredible matches every time. If he doesn't eventually get his underdog Champion moment it will be a travesty. 

Bloodline story - he was incredible.

The Jackass match at mania - incredible.

Dethroning Gunther for the IC Title- incredible.

Annoying conspiracy theorist - incredible

I just don't think there's anyone who has the range he has.

I think it's hard to just pick one, but I do think the women are out shinning the men specially in WWE/NXT land.  With your Lyo Sky, Rhea and Bianca.

Aew like others said Toni Storm, Mercedes, I throughly enjoy Hayley character work at the moment. 

Guys wise I think Page, Swerve and Mox are your 3 top guys who I enjoy watching and look and feel like top guys. 

In NXT I'm not saying there the best but the guys I love watching currently is Jevon Evans and Obi Feni.

I think it says a huge amount about Toni that she was the first post in this topic, plenty of others have agreed and there's no sense of "Well, yeah, she's the best of the women". It says a lot about women's wrestling in the past 5 years, but particularly Toni.

I honestly think it's Will Ospraey. His matches are always great to "of the year" quality, he's managed to tell some fantastic stories and some brilliant memories, and I think he embodies what wrestling in 2025 is. His promos are mostly pretty good too. The only other person I can think of is Hangman. He makes me care like no other wrestler has before. He's done the big, feel good title story to perfection twice now. The nod that the Bucks gave him and the nod that Swerve gave him were both absolute perfection in totally different stories. He was a fantastic violent heel and the fact that he's showing genuine evolution in a way that feels natural is nothing short of remarkable, when you consider how all over the place wrestling is. He manages to have great matches all the time and can reach whatever level is set for him. So as, I said, my answer is Hangman Adam Page.

I think Ospreay is the answer if you're asking who consistently has the best matches. He's brilliant in the ring - and his promos are remarkably good - and there are few other people on his level and certainly not on a consistent basis. As an overall package, despite the brilliant work and the good promos, there's something about who he is and what his motivations are that is a level below Toni and Hangman. I don't want him to "play a character" but I want to feel more for the on-screen Will Ospreay. That feel is the only thing missing.

Sami Zayn's a fun answer. He's one of my absolute favourites. Just a fantastic wrestler and performer. I think he's the answer if you're looking for the most brilliantly versatile wrestler. He really can do anything to a high standard. He's currently nowhere near the best wrestler in the world. He's only ever had about a month of his career where he felt like a star of the level required and he's rarely had the chance to perform the level of matches, stories and promos  that others have. I'd love to have seen him in that position though. Man, they could have pulled that trigger.

Tha Champion of the Fucking World, Hangman Adam Page.

Of course he’s great in-ring, delivering absolute belters, but that’s never felt less important. In 2025, everyone is a good wrestler (except Karrion Kross). Everyone has good to great matches (except Karrion Kross). It’s everywhere else that My Cowboy leaves the rest of them in his dust. Acting. Character. Storytelling. Judged on those attributes, “best wrestler in the world,” doesn’t even cover it. He’s an evolutionary leap in what this medium could and should be. If you’re in this business and you’re not trying to take inspiration from Hangman then you’re a complete idiot. He’s the blueprint of the future.

When the goal of almost everyone else is to stumble across something that gets over and then spam it for as long as possible (“Yadadamean?”), this man is writing masterpieces. Intricate, gripping arcs where you can follow his character through struggles, growth and change. There’s no-one I’ve felt as connected to or invested in after watching this nonsense for over thirty years.

I had to go back and check that the cage match against Swerve was less than a year ago. Absolutely crazy how much character development he’s squeezed into twelve months.

At All Out last year, I was disgusted and ashamed at how far he’d fallen. He was a genuinely scary, broken man. For the rest of my life, I’ll remember that woman screaming in fear when he threatened to go back to attack Swerve as the credits rolled.

Fast forward a few months and I just felt pity on him. That flash of concern and regret, muttering, “what?!” under his breath when Christopher Daniels explained that their Texas Death Match had ended his career. Oh, Cowboy. What have you done?!

Then the slow realisation that his humanity was returning. The incredible promos leading into The Owen Hart Finals. The lost, broken, sad eyes slowly coming alive again, my belief in him returning as he started to believe in himself.

And then probably the greatest crescendo of all time. Probably my favourite match ever. Swerve handing him the chain gave me a genuine lump in my throat. He did it. He saved us. He saved himself. He saved Moxley’s garbage run with The Death Riders. The cowboy rolled into town and saved the fucking day.

And all of this is without even mentioning how he seems to be one of the few good eggs. Bluesky social media  handle on his graphic. Always refers to the belt as the, “Men’s World Championship,” to put both the men’s and women’s on equal pegging. Exists as a genuinely fantastic role model for young men, pushing that it’s okay to be vulnerable and empathetic. More vital than ever in this current MAGA nightmare we’re all living through. And away from the ring, when he’s not drinking his enemy’s blood, he spends all his time gardening. Because of course he does. He’s the best.

So yeah, I quite like Hangman Adam Page. Right now, I’d argue he’s the Heel, Babyface, Match and Promo of the Year. So he’s the best wrestler in the world. It’s either him or Seth Rollins.

You’re protesting too much. I think, deep down, you know he’s a contender. He’s such a good wrestler that he managed to get over without showing any sort of aptitude or ability for actual wrestling. Could Ospreay or Hangman Page do that? It’s little wonder Scarlett married him. I probably would.

Has any other wrestler ever had the foresight to play ‘mind games’ on their opponents by changing their hair?! You’re on the wrong side of history here.

Obviously the answer is Kross, but from a strictly WWE men’s perspective, I’d suggest Drew McIntyre. He’s probably the most compelling character they have, he can cut a brilliant promo, he’s witty and has had great matches with a range of opponents. I’d love to have seen him jump to AEW when his contract was up - I think he could have done some tremendous work there, both on the mic and in ring. McIntyre/Ospreay and McIntyre/Hangman are two feuds and matches that seriously appeal to me.

Stephanie Vaquer is someone I think will be in the conversation in a year’s time. She’s been tremendous, but it’s too soon to speak about her as a best-in-the-world contender. If Takeshita gets the push I think he’s about to, same story.
