Members SuperBacon Posted June 19 Members Posted June 19 Well, the Ben Sherman shirts been ironed and the Base loafers shined, so I guess I'll be going to the Ryan Garner fight at St Mary's tomorrow with my youngest. First World title fight I've seen live since Hatton beat Tszyu, I expect the atmosphere to be a little more subdued than that (one of the best nights of my life) but can't sniff at a World title fight (albeit interim) 10 minutes from me. Anyone I should look out for on the undercard? Quote

Adam Olanyian is on there also, Irish Heavyweight, big things expected but he's likely in with an Albanian binman. Quote

I see there is another fighter on there, Taylor Bevan, who's also from Southampton, and a fighter with the moniker "The Hardest Scaffolder" which is superb isn't it? What a night out. I've been told the main event starts at 9.30 for anyone interested and watching. Quote

Big Frank got a parking spot right in front of the stadium. We sat down at 7pm for the first bout, Taylor Bevan, who REALLY should've put that lad away, he was gassed after about 3 rounds, so a shame he couldn't put him away. Our seats were decent, and they were free so I can't complain. It was a really decent set up to be honest, we had no one in from of us all night and not many around us, so that was a bonus. Olaniyan was really impressive but he was in there with an absolute bum. He also came out to Jesus Walks, so my youngest was happy. Arthur/Edmundson was absolutely dreadful, that first round where not one punch thrown was a disgrace. They both deserved to lose. The fight after that was ok, but I wasn't really paying attention if I'm honest. Main event atmosphere was brilliant. Genuinely brilliant. The only bad thing was the amount of people smoking. Even as someone that enjoys a tab, it was ridiculous and I had to ask one lad right in front of my youngest to cut it out (politely) and he was fine. The crowds have got a bit darts-y with "Kier Starmers a wanker" chants which always seems out of place. Anyway, fever pitch for Garner and it was deafening at points. Ran super late though, I don't ghink he walked out until 10.30, so an hour late and a shame if you'd banked on him being out at 9.30 to get a train or whatever. I thought he absolutely dominated the fight. I had him winning 11 rounds and whatever judge said 119-109 pretty much agreed with me. One judge had it 116-112 which is VERY generous to Magnesi, who while competitive at points, was clearly content to just wait it out. So all in all, a decent night. Few bouts went the distance when I'm assuming they didn't expect them to which meant it overran, that main support was brutal, but the rest was enjoyable and the main was great. Me and my youngest really enjoyed it and our section of the stadium was nice enough and not too drunk. They closed the bars at 9.30 which was a good decision. Saw 5 people get thrown out and only 1 scuffle I the crowd. Games gone. Will definitely be back if he fights there again and I'd estimate the crowd at about 15,000 which is very decent. Zayas landed some big shots on Boots and looked to wobble him but Boots just shook it off and threw back. A good stoppage at the end, no shame in losing that fight for Zayas. Obviously the fight we'd all like to see is Boots vs Vergil Ortiz. Quote

I love to see a hard fought contest, and Zayas landed some belters. It must be Ortiz next for Boots, that's the one to make. Quote

It's interesting as well that that was the same referee for the first fight between Usyk and Fury, yet he stopped Bell last night. Ok, the fight was of a totally different magnitude I know but still.
