The Gaffer Posted December 2, 2023 Posted December 2, 2023 Ding and Williams spent more time on the green last night than I did for most my twenties, and it was wonderful: Sum the sport up in a photo: Quote
Paid Members Gus Mears Posted December 2, 2023 Paid Members Posted December 2, 2023 (edited) Much like November next year, I'll accept anything other than a Trump win. Handsome Hoss vs Ronnie II - here's hoping to it going closer this time than at thr Crucible. Edited December 2, 2023 by Gus Mears Quote
Pork Pie Posted December 2, 2023 Posted December 2, 2023 I've really enjoyed the tournament so far. There's been some very entertaining matches. Trump is on another level at the moment and is the clear favourite but I would love to see the beautiful Vafaei win. There's no one I wouldn't want to see winning it. Ding looked really solid against Williams last night but it's hard to imagine Trump not getting to the final. Trump vs O'Sullivan would be special. But overall I'm team Vafaei. Quote
Paid Members hallicks Posted December 2, 2023 Paid Members Posted December 2, 2023 I quite enjoyed Ronnie’s post match interview. 26 minutes in: https://www.bbc.co.uk/sounds/play/m001t1z8 Quote
Loki Posted December 3, 2023 Posted December 3, 2023 Cracking match last night, Ding cracking a bit a smile during it was treated like a sighting of Father Christmas by the commentators. Sets up a very tasty final! Quote
Paid Members Gus Mears Posted December 4, 2023 Paid Members Posted December 4, 2023 Enjoyable tournament overall, particularly as we got towards the latter stages. You run out of superlatives for O'Sullivan, there's nothing I can add which wasn't said on commentary yesterday. And now to the Shoot Out. So a few days off watching for me. Quote
Loki Posted December 4, 2023 Posted December 4, 2023 It's been a while since I spent a whole day watching snooker, so it was good it was a decent game. Ding seems to be having some issues with his technique that I hope doesn't develop into a bigger thing because I do love watching him play. 30 years since Ronnie first won the tournament. It's weird how your perception of age changes. When I was very young, it felt like (pre-Davis) all snooker players were old men. Now it seems Ronnie at 47 is one of the oldest players to compete at this level. That's my age!! Quote
Just Some Guy Posted December 7, 2023 Posted December 7, 2023 Shaun Murphy's maximum at the Shootout was a thing of beauty. Quote
The Gaffer Posted December 7, 2023 Posted December 7, 2023 (edited) Yeah, really impressive given the format: Christ, is it always like this with the crowd though? I assume it is since even with a 147 attempt here you have endless background chatter and all the failed comedians doing snooker's version of shouting clever things during the silence in wrestler's promos. Not a fan of the players dressing like they patrol the pit during kid's laser tag birthdays either. It's not Proper Snooker, this. Edited December 7, 2023 by Gay as FOOK Quote
Just Some Guy Posted December 7, 2023 Posted December 7, 2023 It was a stupid bit of fun at first but making it a ranking event has made any real snooker fan hate it. I'd have liked to see it played with the due reverence afforded to other tournaments (possibly as real best of 9's with each frame under these rules). Quote
Paid Members Gus Mears Posted January 7, 2024 Paid Members Posted January 7, 2024 Masters starting today for anyone who has forgotten. Some tasty matches in the first round - Ronnie vs Ding rematch tomorrow probably the highlight. Quote
Loki Posted January 7, 2024 Posted January 7, 2024 Was just in the process of posting the same - Masters Snooker is on! Quote
Paid Members Gus Mears Posted January 7, 2024 Paid Members Posted January 7, 2024 (edited) I'm gutted they've stopped zooming in on Peter Ebdon in the crowd during Lisowski's matches, like Lisowski is the Undertaker and Ebdon is the urn. There was a 18 month spell where Jack couldn't go down for a shot without them either A. panning the camera to Ebdon, sitting there looking like Dominic Cummings and scribbling something in a notebook or B. mentioning that he was mentoring him and how that must be good for his game (fat lot of good it's done). Anyway, I hope when I make it big I go to seed like Brecel. He's approached the season following his World Champs win like I would in the office the Monday after winning the lottery. Legend.
