Paid Members wandshogun09 Posted June 19, 2015 Author Paid Members Share Posted June 19, 2015 What's going on here? https://www.youtube.com/watch?app=desktop&persist_app=1&v=24muiXResCk Weird weigh in. Jedrzejczyk is going to wreck her, I'm pretty sure of that. Just can't see how she gets Joanna down and keeps her there long enough to win rounds or slap on a sub. I just don't see her being physically strong enough to overpower JJ's sprawl consistently. And on the feet it's Double J all day.
David
Right, here goes for the next instalment of Degenerate Dave's descent into debt and destitution, this time it's a Polish edition. For this event i'm heading in with a 19-4 outright pick record. My five picks are as follows; Ulka Sasaki to win over Taylor Lapilus Niklas Backstrom to win over Noad Lahat Makwan Amirkhani to win over Masio Fullen Dennis Siver to win over Tatsuya Kawajiri Joanna Jedrzejczyk to win over Jessica penne I currently carry a cash profit of £6.50, and for this event i'm going to be throwing down £3 on Ulka Susaki to beat Taylor Lapilus either on points or via decision. This sees a return of £5. I'll also be throwing down £5 on Nick Hein to beat Lukasz Sajewski by points or submission, which will see a return of £9.17, £5 on Makwan Amirkhani to beat Masio Fullen by KO or submission, which will see a return of £9.55, and a solid, sensible bet of £3 on Dennis Siver to beat Tatsuya Kawajiri on points, which will return a not too shabby £7.50. Paid Members herbie747 Posted June 20, 2015 Paid Members Share Posted June 20, 2015 Why is this show not on BT Sport? WTF am I paying for? Cancel your subscription then. I'm guessing the other 50 events aren't enough? So is it on Fight Pass live? Afraid to check their site in case I see results. Annoying I can't watch it live at a reasonable hour, as that's usually the only benefit of a European show since the cards are generally weak. There are 50 events on BT Sport? the_mole
Yes it was on fight pass live, when the UFC did a deal with BT, fight pass didn't exist, so you get the PPVs and the Fox shows. BT usually show the Asian fight pass shows on tape delay, presumably because they would air in the afternoon over here and the last 2 European fight pass shows have aired on tape delay on pick TV. Paid Members wandshogun09 Posted June 21, 2015 Author Paid Members Share Posted June 21, 2015 Joanna Jedrzejczyk is fucking quality. She's quickly becoming one of my favourite fighters. Her fighting style is awesome to watch, her interviews are top notch, she's likeable but has a serious meanstreak. She's great. I really like the strawweight division anyway but Jedrzejczyk is exactly what the division needs as champion. Penne deserves massive credit for how hard she tried and there was no quit in her. She was just horribly outmatched. She had her moments in round one but it was never going to be enough to win the rounds or stop Joanna's momentum. I don't have a clue who's next now. Logically, I'd say the winner of Gadelha vs Aguilar at UFC 190 has to be the frontrunner though. Especially if Gadelha wins. That's an interesting rematch. But yeah, Jedrzejczyk is the shit. Another dominant WMMA champion agrees...
textonly
It's great how she's dominant in a different way too. Ronda's taking people down, (generally) tapping them out super quickly and it's really exciting. Joanna's staying on her feet, delivering these long, absolutely savage beatings and it's also really exciting. It was a beautiful performance. And she deserves props for her talking game too. A lot of champions can seem a bit pompous/arrogant when they throw out the whole, "I'm too good, no-one can touch me" spiel, but I think she comes across as very likeable even saying that. I really liked the whole "this is Europe's belt" thing too. Yeah. Huge Double J fan now.
Paid Members wandshogun09 Posted June 21, 2015 Author Paid Members Share Posted June 21, 2015 Yeah she's got a different kind of charisma. Something about her confidence is infectious and you want to see her do well. Amazing how quickly she's developed this aura as a legit champion. She's got her own way of promoting herself as well. She's proof that you don't have to be a Chael Sonnen/Conor McGregor soundbite machine to promote yourself in MMA. Speaking of charisma, did anyone see the Amirkhani fight? After an 8 second flying knee KO in his UFC debut, this time he submitted some topknot wearing fool called Masio Fullen in just over a minute then gave a really emotional post-fight interview where he found his mother in the crowd and they were both in tears. Next Saturday... FOX SPORTS 1 MAIN CARD Lyoto Machida vs Yoel Romero Lorenz Larkin vs Santiago Ponzinibbio Antonio Carlos Junior vs Eddie Gordon Thiago Santos vs Steve Bosse Hacran Dias vs Levan Makashvili Alex Oliveira vs Joe Merritt FIGHT PASS PRELIMS Leandro Silva vs Lewis Gonzalez Steve Montgomery vs Tony Sims That's it. Eight fights. I don't know if the lineup is correct in terms of what's on FS1 and what's on Fight Pass but I'll alter it if the bout order changes. Talk about a cursed card. This was actually supposed to serve as the TUF Brazil 4 finale but a shitload of the Brazilian fighters had visa problems so they had to be yanked from the card. Erick Silva vs Rick Story was a casualty of the visa issues as well which is a real shame because that would've been a cracking fight which a thin card like this could really use. The TUF Brazil finals will now take place on the UFC 190 card in August. But having to pull all those fighters out of this card has really fucked this one over. I don't even know how it's going to work now. They usually do a six fight main card on FOX Sports Fight Nights with four FOX Sports prelims and a couple of Fight Pass fights. I don't if they'll do it how I've listed above or just whack the whole thing on FOX Sports. What a mess. On the positive side, the main event for this show is awesome. Machida vs Romero is one of those fights where you look at it on paper and just think 'man, I don't have a clue what happens there.' Usually I have an idea how I think most fights will play out when they're announced. I'm often wrong but I at least usually have a gut feeling on how I think it'll go. Then every now and then a fight like this comes along and I have no idea. It's such an interesting fight for how they match up. You've got the karate style, the movement, the accuracy and speed of Machida. Then you've got the Olympic level wrestling technique, brute strength and raw power of Romero. Machida is the more advanced striker but Romero's wrestling could effect how Machida attacks. And Romero's the better wrestler but Machida's movement could throw his timing off. They both have awkward and unorthodox styles. On paper, it's a right Rubik's cube of a fight to figure out. Machida needs to look good here. He looked fantastic when he dropped to 185 and I still think he's a force. But he's in his late 30s now and he's lost a few title shots and contender fights over the last few years. The clock is ticking and he needs to get a move on if he wants one last crack at the gold. He's a top middleweight. His only losses at 185 have been to Weidman and Rockhold. But the Rockhold loss in April was brutal. I still think the elbow to the back of the head was a huge factor in how the fight ended but regardless, he was being dominated even before that. He needs to rebound in style here. Easier said than done though when you're fighting a tank like Yoel Romero. Look at the bastard... Every time I see him I think 'please pass the test, please pass the test.' He looks ridiculous. You shouldn't look like a Hasbro in your late 30s, should you? Again, I hope he passes the test. Not accusing him of anything and I know you can't base everything solely on what you see physique-wise when it comes to PEDs but with them cracking down big time on testing this year, whenever I see a brick shithouse like this I get worried. Especially when it's a fighter I like. Romero is quality. He looks solid as fuck. He is solid as fuck. He's got the Olympic backstory. He can take your head off with strikes. He's man enough that he can wear skin-tight purple shorts and not a single fucker is going to take the piss. He's got Batista's body and Don Corleone's voice but with a Cuban accent. He's cool as fuck. And as if I didn't already like him enough, he bashed Tim Kennedy to a pulp in his last fight in September. Lovely. Have that, soldier boy. Controversial fight with the whole stoolgate thing and I remember at the time people were going 'Romero turned heel' and stuff. Sod that. I don't care if Romero sat on the stool too long between rounds (Kennedy was being a dirty shit anyway by holding onto Romero's gloves illegally so fuck him). Balls to Military Tim. The fight continued and Romero absolutely savaged him. And I loved it. Not arsed about the undercard whatsoever. I like watching Lorenz Larkin fight. That's about it. This one is all about Machida vs Romero for me.

It's impossible not to admire somebody that has the ability to dominate in such an exciting way. She's kind of cute too, which doesn't hurt. Incredible the mess she made of Penne's face during the beat down. Can't wait for her next fight now.
Paid Members Egg Shen Posted June 22, 2015 Paid Members Share Posted June 22, 2015 she's cute in a terrifying kind of way. But fuck me, it looks like a case of her far and beyond better than anyone else in her division, it's going to make for some painful, brutal viewing. She doesn't possess KO power really, but she's nasty and she throws elbows any chance she's got, if women can't take her down they are getting beaten up. I can't really recall her first two UFC fights, but she's looking unstoppable at the moment. I can't imagine the UFC had any idea that someone like Jedrzejczyk would come along and dominate this muthafucker. ...please lord got don't let her get hands on Paige VanZant Kawajiri/Siver was a decent scrap as a co-main, i had a feeling Kawajiri may impose his will on Siver, the fight played out pretty much as i expected. So glad Kawajiri got the nod though, big fan of that guy. The other two main card fights were poor mismatches really, two German guys in there with 2 guys who don't really have any business on the main card. Undercard had some decent standout performances, Makwan Amirkhani definitely has some star quality. 2 wins now in double quick time but he just has that little something extra that makes him stand out. I expect him in some kind of high slot on an upcoming European show. Mairbek Taisumov needs some fast-tracking too, 3 KO's in a row. The guy's just nasty as shit, he's constantly buried down the cards but he's becoming a real must-see fighter.

Paid Members wandshogun09 Posted June 28, 2015 Author Paid Members Share Posted June 28, 2015 Yoel Romero then. I'm a huge fan but he's an idiot for that little post-fight outburst last night. Have your own beliefs, whatever, but ranting about being anti-gay marriage like that on live TV is plain stupid and makes you look like a bigoted fool. He's since said that it was a misunderstanding and that he was just thanking the USA for the opportunities he's been given. But he's clearly just backtracking. Why would you be saying stuff like 'What happened to you USA? Go back to Jesus. Not for gay marriage' or whatever he was trying to say if you're just doing a nice little 'USA number one' promo? It's a shame as well because he's gone and overshadowed the biggest win of his career with this nonsense. He's just crushed Lyoto Machida and put himself right into the title mix and looked like a fucking star...then immediately undoes a lot of the good he's just achieved by opening up the gay can of worms. Awesome performance regardless. Brutal finish and that 'Showtime punch' was pretty cool too, especially from someone of Romero's build. His team need to reign the mad cunt in though. His interviews are funny in a car crash way. He's like the Iron Sheik doing an impression of Marlon Brando in The Godfather. But the anti-gay stuff is the kind of thing that'll make it difficult for the UFC to get their promotional machine behind him and possibly hold him back. They don't want someone going off on one like that on FOX Sports. Again, everyone is entitled to their own beliefs, but there's a time and a place. A UFC show isn't the platform to get on your soapbox about gay marriage. Like when Jacob Volkmann started mouthing off about Barack Obama on a UFC show a few years ago. It's not the place for it really. And nothing good will come from it. I don't know where Machida goes from here. Late 30s, coming off losses, no more weight classes to make another fresh start in (170 isn't happening). In hindsight maybe he took this fight on too quick a turnaround. He fought Luke Rockhold and Yoel Romero in roughly an eight week span. Fuck that. Larkin vs Ponzinibbio was a really exciting fight. Interested to see how far Larkin can go at 170. He's looking very good so far plus he has that win over Robbie Lawler on his record which won't do him any harm. Title shots are a long way off of course but I like what I've seen of Larkin his last couple of fights. I've always liked him but it feels like thing are really clicking for him now. Thiago Santos headkick was scary. Probably KO of 2015 so far for me. Is Steve Bosse awake yet? Jesus.
firstnameunknown
Where did he mention gay marriage? I admit I started to wince when he appeared to say "not for gay..." at the end of the interview but it was obvious that what he said was "not forget Jesus" and his terrible English just mangled it. Paid Members wandshogun09 Posted June 28, 2015 Author Paid Members Share Posted June 28, 2015 Well it seemed like that's what he was on about. Admittedly it was hard to decipher amongst the Iron Sheik-like babbling. He might not have used the word 'marriage' but he definitely said 'not for gay' and in light of the recent ruling on gay marriage, it's got to be that, hasn't it? Especially when he was saying stuff like 'what happened to USA?', I took that as him being disappointed in the recent ruling.
