Paid Members Sebby Posted December 24, 2012 Paid Members Posted December 24, 2012 This is amazing yeah? The Voyager probes... http://voyager.jpl.nasa.gov/ been travelling for 35 plus years and it takes just over 16 hours (at the speed of light to get to them)  The nearest http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Andromeda_Galaxy only takes 2.5 million light years to get there (scary)  This is a topic if it's not been done about that great thing above you called SPACE . I fucking love space, are we alone? will we ever find life etc.... no bullshit about the moon and George bush.  So lets bring all space talk here I will start us off http://www.space.com/18999-most-extreme-sp...eries-2012.html  Personally I think we are not alone but we will never meet life, I think the distance between the stars are just to vast but never say never.  I also think we should go to Europa and look for life there (yeah i know it comes down to money) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Europa_(moon)  What do you boys and girls think?

Paid Members ShortOrderCook Posted December 25, 2012 Paid Members Posted December 25, 2012 I've been thinking of starting a 'The Universe ' thread for a while. I might post a load of stuff in here next week. I'm fascinated by the universe.
Paid Members Surf Digby Posted December 25, 2012 Paid Members Posted December 25, 2012 As today is Christmas Eve, and no fucker wants to answer the phone to me, I've spent the majority of work today on Wikipedia hopping between pages on space shuttles, space stations, lost cosmonauts, and all manner of space travel related things.

Sphinx Posted December 25, 2012 Posted December 25, 2012 The chances of there not being other life forms in the universe is extremely miniscule. Â Bill Bryson's A Short History of Nearly Everything is a really good read which blows your mind at times. I got half way through Cosmos by Carl Sagan, but a lot of formulas were introduced. Bryson's was easier for me as an introduction to the universe and he puts it in relative layman's terms.
Paid Members Kookoocachu Posted December 26, 2012 Paid Members Posted December 26, 2012 If you want good astrophysics related books go for Michio Kaku ( ) or Brian Greene.
Paid Members Kookoocachu Posted December 26, 2012 Paid Members Posted December 26, 2012 I've been thinking for a very long time of doing little 'Kook teaches physics/astronomy/astrophysics' videos for Youtube. Would that interest any of you? Been putting it off as I don't think many people would watch
Paid Members Azrall Posted December 27, 2012 Paid Members Posted December 27, 2012 I've been thinking for a very long time of doing little 'Kook teaches physics/astronomy/astrophysics' videos for Youtube. Would that interest any of you? Been putting it off as I don't think many people would watch  I'd give it a whirl. Space and the Universe genuinely interest me, so someone telling me about it rather than actually reading about it, would please me no end.
King Coconut Posted December 27, 2012 Posted December 27, 2012 I don't think we should waste any money going to Europa for the time being. I think we can safely say there's no intelligent life in our solar system outside of the Earth and I think we can answer all open questions about the possibility of life emerging by studying Mars. I'd like to see us stretch ourselves to the outer reaches of the solar system some day but there's plenty of time for that and there's no harm in perfecting our techniques a bit closer to home.
kendal mint cake Posted December 27, 2012 Posted December 27, 2012 This is a series that everyone needs to see: Â
Paid Members Teedy Kay Posted December 27, 2012 Paid Members Posted December 27, 2012 Pluto, I don't care what certain boffins in certain scientific areas declare, it's still a planet to me dammit!
Paid Members Sebby Posted December 27, 2012 Author Paid Members Posted December 27, 2012 Teedy Kay- New Horizons is on it's way to explore it. Yeah Pluto will always be a planet to me as well. http://www.nasa.gov/mission_pages/newhoriz...main/index.html 14th of July in 2015 will be the day give or take. Â Sphinx - Agree that the Universe is so vast that we will most likely never meet intelligent life (if it is there ) at least face to face... but we have progressed amazing in the last 100 years alone (who thought we would ever land on the moon ) so who knows. signals etc... who's to say what could happen in a million years time. Â King Coconut- I still like the idea of going to Europa although it could be decades away and will be a shit load of money and I don't expect Nemo to come up to the camera if we do dig through the ice but I think that should be our probes next port of call, although I agree Mars curiosity rover could answer a lot of the questions on what we are looking for. Â ShortOrderCook - Please do post more stuff, pictures, thoughts, links, whatever man all welcome here. Â Kookoocachu - I will check out the books, should be a good read. check out this book as well really cool picked it up last summer in the States. http://www.telegraph.co.uk/culture/books/b...ies-review.html, all about why we are yet to find any alien signals yet. Â Also go for the videos and post them on here... if you dont try you never will know and all that. Â Oh and I will add this to the topic, the Wow! signal http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wow!_signal... very strange. Â Regards Sebby
