Dexter Season 7

Season 7 has been discussed a little bit in the season 6 thread, but I feel it deserves it's own now that it's started properly

***WARNING - SPOILERS FROM HERE ON IN***

First episode has not pulled any punches. Dexter tends to start off slowly but a whole bunch of shit has happened already.

Debs knows everything. LaGuerta never gave up believing that Doakes was innocent, so that will start up again now she has the blood slide. The Kiev people look like Dexter's next bunch of victims. Louis is getting weirder with his obsession with Dexter.

Discuss!

Great start. What an ending to the episode as well.

LaGuerta's going to die this season. At least, I hope she does.

Yeah, the end was fantastic. I was starting to think they might have decided to half-arse the pay-off a bit, and have Dexter convince his sister that he just went mental (perhaps explain that his son was in danger) and not fully expose his murdering ways, but the end confirmed they are going full-on with this!

LaGuerta has needed to die for ages.

LaGuerta has a bloodslide and knows the Bay Harbour Butcher had blood slides.

Deb has seen Dexter's collection of slides.

The scene is surely set for LaGuerta - Deb - Dexter to be in a room, LaGuerta calling Dexter the Bay Harbour Butcher, goading Deb to shoot him only for Deb to pop a cap in Captain Maria's ass.

Thought it was a really strong episode. Loved the way Deb gradually overcame her emotion to still follow her detective instincts and uncover the truth, even though she looked like the shortest Lieutenant in the world for a bit. But the pacing really paid off, great start.

Good episode and really strong end, loved the fact that Deb appears to know all now rather than drag it out a few episodes as I feared they would.

But the same lazy writing that has plagued last season is STILL there. The airport scene was fluff of the highest order. In a post 9/11 world, they let Dexter buy an international flight with cash while only having a checked bag, security doesn't want to see any paperwork for syringes of an unknown liquid, and not only is he able to find a store room without any cameras (in a large international airport?) in order to do the killing, he's able to walk out of the airport with the body.

Yeah....

I know I'm nit-picking, but that just screamed at me at being lazy beyond reproach and so far beyond the tight writing and suspense that made Season 4 so incredible.

It makes sense that Deb worked out Dexter was a serial killer straight away. Dexter has been pretty much retarded for the past few years, the stupid shit and idiotic decisions he's made it's a miracle it took this long.

I liked the episode alot. Glad to see they are going full throttle with the storyline instead of pussyfooting around. Although the stuff with the Ukrainian's is no doubt just going to be filler to give Batista and that other douchebag something to do for the season.

Thought the episode was great but as mentioned above the scene in the airport was up there with the slopiest of death scenes in Dexter history. As mentioned, getting through customs with ample needles (why not just one or 2 anyway?) then killing someone in the baggage area, where someone had literally just walked out? Then with cameras everywhere in airports and then somehow after going through security, getting out of the airport with a body in a bag? MADNESS!!!

Anyway, aside from that it was great, and thank fuck Deb figured it out right at the end of the episode! The strange thing to ask is how the fuck did she know to look in his air conditioning unit to find the slides?

When Dex got home his shit was all over the place which shows Deb looked through absolutely everything, she is a detective after all. Its not like she walked and went straight to the air con unit.

I don't know why they couldn't of just had Dexter grabbing the guy in the airport carpark and killing him somewhere else. That airport scene was just total illogical madness. I can't believe not a single writer/actor/producer didn't just stop them and say "Hang on a minute..."

I also loved the laziness of the writing in the bar scene between Quinn and Batista where they just basically erased everything that happened between them last season "I didn't really ask for a transfer" "Well I don't really have a drinking problem, and I didn't go to my union rep" "Ok, let's be partners again". I find stuff like that so shit it's endearing.

Yeah, there were a few flaws (as others have pointed out) but it was such an improvement over the last two seasons I found the good outweighing the bad by far.

I assume the sloppiness of the airport kill is going to be a plot point. Given that the mob boss (the guy in the fancy house) is played by a fairly major name I assume he's the 'big bad' of the season (and thank fuck it's not another serial killer), to have him pursue/be at odds with Dexter they need him to work out what happened to their guy - so having the kill take place at an airport with plenty of CCTV opportunities works. Sloppy writing but ah well..
