BritFan Posted March 20, 2012 Posted March 20, 2012 WWE officials notified Bright House Network Monday that they have opted to cease their affiliation with the Florida based sports network as they are shutting down Florida Championship Wrestling effective immediately. Florida Championship Wrestling programming, which was taped last Thursday in Tampa, Florida, will cease to air on the network in three weeks. Â Everyone involved with Florida Championship Wrestling will relocate to WWE
Paid Members tiger_rick Posted March 20, 2012 Paid Members Posted March 20, 2012 Surprised it's taken this long given the high life some guys were living in Florida!
TezzRexx Posted March 20, 2012 Posted March 20, 2012 Am I right in that this was WWE's last developmental territory?
Richie Freebird Posted March 20, 2012 Posted March 20, 2012 Fuck no! FCW TV was one of the only things left in modern wrestling that interested me enough to watch it on a semi regular basis (albeit a couple of months behind). I fucking loved that show. Hopefully the replacement will pop up very soon and will have a similar style. My pick for North American TV match of the year last year took place in FCW. Â Do we know any reasons behind the shutdown?
Paid Members Up Chuck Posted March 20, 2012 Paid Members Posted March 20, 2012 Seems a bit out of the blue. Guess that's why JR was there for the last taping.
Paid Members IANdrewDiceClay Posted March 20, 2012 Paid Members Posted March 20, 2012 Its been coming for ages. I wrote a big post in the Raw thread last week, on how bad developmental is. FCW's been a big fuck up as far as developing talent. FCW's brought few people through, compared to their last developmental territory.
Paid Members Up Chuck Posted March 20, 2012 Paid Members Posted March 20, 2012 Fair point, actually. But will relocating to Connecticut really change that much? If there are gonna be two territories, that'll be a step in the right direction, at least, but will even that solve the problems they were having with FCW?
Paid Members IANdrewDiceClay Posted March 20, 2012 Paid Members Posted March 20, 2012 Different people will be running it and its a boring place to live (and more expensive), so their focus will be less on going out on the piss. It'll be a different developmental league. Whether that makes a difference is to be seen, but it'll at least be different.
Loki Posted March 20, 2012 Posted March 20, 2012 Is the consensus then that Steve Keirn was a crap trainer? They seemed to have a fair number of good wrestlers down there giving good advice. Strange that it was such a failure. Â Maybe they should swallow their pride and get back in bed with OVW and Cornette. That setup produced a whole bunch of good talent.
Paid Members tiger_rick Posted March 20, 2012 Paid Members Posted March 20, 2012 Maybe they should swallow their pride and get back in bed with OVW and Cornette. That setup produced a whole bunch of good talent. That's undoubtedly true. They were doing a better job of recruiting back then though. Guys like Batista, Cena, Orton, Lesnar and Benjamin all had something about them already. I don't really think OVW would've done a whole lot better with most of the cookie cutter guys that have been through development recently. Perhaps guys like Husky Harris and Brodus Clay would've benefited from the old school methods for working as big men, not sure about the rest.
Moderators PowerButchi Posted March 20, 2012 Moderators Posted March 20, 2012 Triple H giving the developmental system a kick up the arse can only be a good thing, can't it? Odds on HHH leaving his mates Regal and Waltman to run it? That'd be awesome if they did.
Paid Members LaGoosh Posted March 20, 2012 Paid Members Posted March 20, 2012 Having a development lead by William Regal, X-Pac and Road Dogg (for promos) is the way to go in my opinion. And Triple H can always pop in and kick them up the arse every few weeks or so.
Paid Members Halitosis Romantic Posted March 20, 2012 Paid Members Posted March 20, 2012 Those are all guys that I would want in a day-to-day situation with young talent. They all have so much to teach about the business. Possibly Marty Jannetty and Sheiky could get involved?
