2011/2012 Scottish Football Thread

An interesting article regarding the revealing of the names of the independent panel members that punished Rangers the other day;

Ten months ago it was trumpeted as the most emphatic victory of this or any other season.

It was held up as Stewart Regan's finest hour. The chief executive pushed for a revolution at the Scottish Football Association and, boy, did he get it. On June 7 it was proposed that they redraw the governing body from within, tearing it down and building it back up. There were 93 SFA members in the room and when it was asked if there were any objections not a single hand went up. The various resolutions were carried 93-0.

One of them concerned the creation of a new Judicial Panel to handle rule-breaking, ie exactly the same panel which delivered such a stinging verdict on Rangers on Monday night. Ten months ago everything about the new Judicial Panel was explained to the clubs, every step of the procedures was outlined to them, every strength and advantage was presented and discussed. Three-man panels would hear any case and the individuals would be drawn from a pool of around 100 former players, managers and other football and legal figures. The panels would be independent and anonymous. It sounded sensible. Every SFA member at the annual general meeting inside Hampden liked the sound of it and agreed to it. Rangers, like the rest, had no objection.

Ally McCoist's primal scream against the verdict which crashed down on the club this week

Aye, the cheeky chappy should have some explaining to do.

Glen Gibbons had a good piece in the Scotsman today too. He also touched on Walter's absurd ramblings

There's just so much shit coming from Rangers this past couple of days, there's not enough newsprint to fit it all in. The chappy's other rantings; the non apology and "we're a special case" comments, Willie Pullars similarly embarrassing guff, the fans chiefs continuing to make arses of themselves, the boycotts of SFA sponsors, the marches in protest at them being punished for cheating...

It goes on and on, all of it underpinned by their typical ingrained sense of entitlement and 'WATP mentality'

Glenn Gibbons: McCoist and Smith fail to see true Ibrox saboteurs

FOR someone who is possibly the oldest rookie manager in the history of the game, Ally McCoist this week gave a flawless impersonation of an impulsive, vengeful and nasty-minded adolescent.

Notoriety attached itself to the former striker with the suddenness and potential devastation of a pernicious virus the moment he demanded the release of the names of the three-man independent review panel who imposed sanctions on Rangers in accordance with the seriousness of the Ibrox club

An outstanding performance & result from Motherwell today. The result completely mirrored the game.

If we get to the Champions League qualifiers (and that's still a big if), surely Stuart McCall has to be in the running for manager of the year?

He is. It's been announced Neil Lennon, Derek Adams and Stuart McCall are the three in the running.

Scottish football definitely won't be any different without Rangers because it's fucking rotten anyway. Sitting at Celtic Park tonight and it was the most boring game I've ever been to in my life.
