Paid Members Murtz Posted April 10, 2011 Paid Members Share Posted April 10, 2011 Right... I've been sporting lined goatee for years now, using a Wahl Detailer. Recently I've started to do a clean shave with the trimmer, and it leaves a nice shadow look (level zero on the trimmer to be precise). Â These trimmers are now broken, so Im looking for an electrical shaver to replace it. I dont want it to give me a razor style clean shave, but want it to be close as possible. Â Any suggestions? Im not really fussed on whether its foil or rotary (dont know the pros and cons of either to be honest)

Moderators Chest Rockwell Posted February 19, 2013 Moderators Share Posted February 19, 2013 I do not endorse electric shavers! Â Grow a beard over some/none/all of your face that you keep neat with a trimmer. And then the bits you aren't growing shave with a razor.
Paid Members Murtz Posted February 19, 2013 Author Paid Members Share Posted February 19, 2013 I'm an asian.. growing it out wouldn't do me any favours, especially at airport security.
Paid Members CleetusVanDamme Posted February 19, 2013 Paid Members Share Posted February 19, 2013 I've just been using regular hair clippers to shave for the last few months, since my electric shaver died, I really can't see a difference. The clippers cost about a 1/4 of the price of the shaver as well. Get a cheap pair and give it a try.
Paid Members Kookoocachu Posted February 19, 2013 Paid Members Share Posted February 19, 2013 I bought Rick one of those iStubble things. He loves it.
Moderators Chest Rockwell Posted February 19, 2013 Moderators Share Posted February 19, 2013 I hate that shaver based on the name alone.. that is a front runner for the most ridiculous appendage of the "i" prefix to a product that really doesn't warrant it, and where it doesn't even make sense. Â IT may be an amazing trimmer but I could never use it for that reason.
Paid Members PunkStep Posted February 19, 2013 Paid Members Share Posted February 19, 2013 Phillips trimmers are always good, and dead cheap too. Twenty quid will get you one with various attachments for different lengths etc I think
Loki
I periodically buy a "beard trimmer" and then throw it away within a few months as they are always shite, and never trim as close on 0 as my Babyliss hair clippers. Â If anyone can find a genuinely decent beard trimmer that gives you a close-ish shave on 0, then I'm interested.
Paid Members PunkStep Posted February 20, 2013 Paid Members Share Posted February 20, 2013 Philishave triple head jobs are good for shaving down stubble, but you can't use them on anything longer than that. My dad swears by them, but I find that they pull a bit. Oh absolutely, the actually shavers are a nightmare for long hair. I have a Phillips shaver and trimmer, and if my facial hear gets to a certain length I have to trim it before I use the shaver- otherwise it pulls on the hair like a mother. But the trimmers regardless are good for keeping a designer stubble look.
