Paid Members Devon Malcolm Posted July 14, 2017 Author Paid Members Share Posted July 14, 2017 If the sun comes out, which it's forecast to do this weekend, looks like this could become a road of a pitch and nobody will get anywhere fast. Hope I'm wrong though, would be a real shame after the first one was a cracker.
Paid Members Cod Eye Posted July 14, 2017 Paid Members Share Posted July 14, 2017 It looks to have slowed down a fair bit from this morning. Can't help but think we have squandered a chance to make inroads into the top order by bowling too short when it was swinging more.
Moderators PowerButchi Posted July 14, 2017 Moderators Share Posted July 14, 2017 (edited) Back to a seaming pitch now with the balls age providing some nice reverse swing which Stokes is making the best out of. Least predictable wicket ever. God knows what it'll be like tomorrow. Maybe should have dropped Dawson for another batsman as I don't see this wicket turning too much. Edited July 14, 2017 by PowerButchi
Moderators PowerButchi Posted July 14, 2017 Moderators Share Posted July 14, 2017 (edited) Penetrating Medium Pace from Jennings for the last old ball over. As bad as Stewart vs the Windies. Batsmen couldn't play it though. Long run up for 60mph yorkers.  New ball now though, need this half hour with seam and swing before it's a concrete wicket in the morning Edited July 14, 2017 by PowerButchi
Paid Members Lion_of_the_Midlands Posted July 14, 2017 Paid Members Share Posted July 14, 2017 The last time England played two spinners at Trent Bridge it was the punishing spin twins Richard Illingworth and Mike Watkinson against the West Indies. Notts only ever use fat Samit in 4 days games, their spinners spend most of their time playing in the stiffs or for Lincolnshire, and Samit only bowls a few overs. Consistent selection is OK but Dawson is wasted in this game, the catch was pretty good though.
Moderators PowerButchi Posted July 14, 2017 Moderators Share Posted July 14, 2017 Illingworth and Watkinson were honest county players. Won't have a word against them in the modern contract game. First sesson was a real "Traditional Seamer's" pitch though. Watkin or Bicknelll would have made bank on it. Graham Onion's too. The English Seamer is a dying art, and shitty unless there is cloud cover.

Graeme Hick got a century in that game, and Watto got 80-odd not out. That was the same series that they dragged John Emburey out of a retirement home at 42 to bowl on a raging turner at Old Trafford. Didn't get a wicket. Paid Members Lion_of_the_Midlands Posted July 15, 2017 Paid Members Share Posted July 15, 2017 Wasn't it the Old Trafford test where the ultimate show pony Dominic Cork got at hat trick. I fucking hate Dominic Cork.
Paid Members Devon Malcolm Posted July 15, 2017 Author Paid Members Share Posted July 15, 2017 Yep, I think so. Rarely seen a bowler become so utterly useless when it didn't swing.

Paid Members Gus Mears Posted July 17, 2017 Paid Members Share Posted July 17, 2017 Upper-order exactly as uninspiring as expected. I don't ever expect this lot to work, because some of them simply are not good enough and the mentality of the side has been to crumble under pressure for a number of years. Jennings is not a test quality opener and Ballance can make a skin-full at County, but has never sorted out his technical problems which get exposed at a higher level. I really do wish Hameed was in form, because he at least seems to have the mental application to grind it out. Not very impressive captaincy either by Root in this game. Bringing on that lad who may as well have been bowling with his cap on before the new ball was terrible, as was the entire England set-up trying to convince themselves that Liam Dawson is England's no.1 spin bowler, mere days after Mo had his best ever game with the ball.
