What have you been watching on (proper scripted) telly?

Anybody else watch Louis Theroux's porn doc on BBC 2? I enjoyed it, but was somewhat underwhelmed by it. Maybe because he has recently been doing a lot more serious topics. This felt like fluff in comparison. Rob Black was coked off his tits, and that's putting it mildly. Tommy Gunn felt like a lost soul. I genuinely felt sorry for him, then realised he was talking to Jackie fucking Daniels at one point. The lucky prick that he is. Not a patch on the original porn doc, but watchable all the same.

I caught a bit of some Alistair McGowan show on tv the other day. It was the worst, least funny pile of shit I've seen for quite some time. And now I have his shitty song about Jessica Ennis kinda rattling around in my head - I felt embarrassed for him performing it but couldn't change the channel.

Horrible.

I just finished watching all of Community and it is by far my favourite show currently on air. I think in time I may even like it more than Arrested Development.

As a fan of Big Bang Theory I would happily sacrifice the show in favour of Community and it baffles me how Community suffers in the ratings and Big Bang is such a huge success.

Save Community.

Community has its moments, but better than AD?? Sod off.

To be honest I would probably agree that I think I like it more than arrested development. Will need to see over the next few years as I've watched AD to death and Community might not have the staying power. I'd also say AD is probably the better comedy - but I love all the meta stuff Community does, how it tries so many new things (AD has never done anything like the Dinner with Abed and Dreamatorium episodes for really looking at the negatives of a character without always being humorous) and I just enjoy spending time with the characters and world of Greendale more than I do the world of Arrested Development.

Although the upcoming 4th season without the lead showrunner and many of the writers may well sour the whole experience. Then again, AD significantly worse 3rd season (well atleast the MR. F run) didn't sour that.

Both shows are different though. Community apart from odds and sods of continuity throughout the show doesn't have an ongoing storyline unlike Arrested Development. I think that's why Arrested Development is so good, because it does have a long story arc, obviously once they knew the show was getting cancelled they had to ramp up to the ending quickly. Whereas as long as you know the characters you can watch any episode of Community and find it enjoyable, but it isn't as engaging.

You thought the 3rd series of Arrested Development was bad? huh.

The only bad storyline AD ever had was the Maeby studio head thing.

Anyway - I just got done with all of Community. Overall I really enjoyed the back end of the latest series, with the computer game episode being a particular highlight. However, I do think they're trying a bit too hard with Abed for the last season and they kinda ruined his character for me. Also, if I ever heard about Inspector Space Time again it'll be too soon.

Bads not quite right word. I thought the Charlize Theron storyline was the worst they've done. Still funny and still a better storyline than many other sitcoms could hope to have but just felt a bit one note and over the top for AD. It went on too long too.

I thought the last three or so episodes were well below the other episode's standards.

Fuck that, the Mr. F storyline is brilliant. And the ending of it is actually suprisingly sweet for an Arrested Development storyline.

The "On the Next Arrested Development" for that episode is perfection.

EDIT - Ha. Just looked up at my xBox home page, and there is a video ad for Hulu Plus playing. At the moment I looked at it, it was showing George, Lucille, and Lindsey doing chicken dances to represent Michael and women.

Just watching this. If there was a film made on Tommy Gunns life, Christian Bale would be the perfect fit. I thought there was a massive likeness between the two.

Theres another Louis Theroux documentary on Really tonight. Louis and the Brothel i believe is the title.

Thanks for the heads up! I've seen it a few times, but only in shit Youtube quality. It's one of his best I reckon.

If you like NCIS, then Rizzoli and Isles might be worth a try. I think its on Watch (or some channel like that).
