  1. I've wanted to see Belinda Carlisle's early band the Go-Go's for 20+ years and I was finally gonna get my chance this year because they were gonna support Billy Idol at Wembley.

After spunking £80 I can't afford on a ticket and listening to nothing but the Go-go's for months Billy changed the dates and the Go-Go's had to pull out. One of my fave bands ever and now I can't even bring myself to listen to them.

I still love Billy Idol although I was 95% going for the Go-Go's - so when Billy revealed the new support was iconic early punk act Television I decided I'd still go. I like Television but don't love them so I started listening to them all the time to get in the mood for the gig and I managed to literally turn myself into a big Television fan ahead of the gig.

Then a couple of days ago Television pulled out and the support is now Toyah Wilcox - Jesus fucking Christ

If you found this boring blame Devon, I was triggered by him posting Billy in the song thread.

Also Billy Idol just released a new EP which is also a nightmare cos as much as I like Billy who the fuck wants to see new billy idol songs live?

  2. My problem with Lightyear was the way it raised huge ethical/social/moral ideas it had no desire to expand on or play with in any way.

    Spoiler

It felt like the film had only started and I was already pissed off at Buzz for staying young and repeatedly going into space for years at a time while generations of his crew were living and dying on a boring space station because of his mistake or whatever.

Then at the end of the film from what I remember Buzz just kind of decided for them that life on the boring space station was the best thing for them, what the fuck was that about?

I wouldn't have minded if it had tried to be a deep film and expand on those things but it didn't at all, they were just plot points.

I also don't believe lightyear as it was presented would be Andy's favourite film. Also the fact that it was a film within a film wasn't really used at all, it served no purpose other than to make it a bit more of a mess to think about

I didn't mind the general animation/character design and especially the ships and stuff were cool.

     The Cable Guy

Can't decide if Jim Carrey's performance is exactly what this film needed or ruins it. The karaoke scene the clear standout. Genuinely demented.

I'm sure you won't be surprised that Carrey's wild showing in Cable Guy is possibly my favourite film performance ever.

  4. Public service announcement for people wondering whether to watch Mike Myers'  The Pentaverate

If you go in expecting it will be shit you'll hate it. If you try to suck any enjoyment you can from seeing Mike do his schtick for the first time in nearly 15 years then there's plenty I enjoyed.

    Also Debi Mazar is amazing.

  5. There was an old punk on here years ago, @wolfvinson I think. Once he sent me a bunch of rare crossover hard-core punk performances and interviews on DVDs he burnt himself. Circle Jerks, Black Flag, Angry Samoans, the Germs etc. It was awesome, really hard to find stuff at the time. I'm pretty sure he was the guy who posted a video of his band rehearsing and people slagged it off, this was ages ago.

  6. I Rewatched Kong Skull Island, not seen it since the cinema, I still really liked it.

Cool to see King Kong be the proper goodie of the film for once, I loved how he looked and carried himself, he gets loads of screen time and doesn't die falling off a building.

I forgot how many big names are in it; Samuel L Jackson, John C Reilly (they were great) Brie Larson, John Goodman and Tom Hiddleston are all in it too (Shea Wigham and Toby Kebbel as well for movie buffs) everyone had a pretty developed character even if they didn't always have something to do and the Vietnam era setting added something as well.

  7. Ashamed to say I only recently learnt about this amazing guy Yakima Canutt who lived a ridiculously full life.

    https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yakima_Canutt

Started as an actual cowboy and was worlds best bronco buster at 17. Then he fell into acting and went on to become one of the best stuntmen ever and a pioneering stunt coordinator.

He even taught John Wayne how to be a cowboy and Wayne's entire persona, voice and body language were copied off Canutt, they worked together developing new ways to do stunts and movie fights.

When he was too knackered to do stunts he became one of the top second unit action directors in Hollywood and lived til til he was 90.

That summary doesn't even do him justice, the guy really got around.

    From UHF

    Stanley : What's wrong, George?

George  : You don't wanna know.

    Stanley: oh... Why'd I ask?

    From Austin Powers

Vanessa Kensington: I know I'm paranoid but I can't shake this suspicious feeling about you and miss Fagina

Austin: You're right to be suspicious, I shagged her!

    Vanessa: what?

Austin: I shagged her rotten baby, yeah!

  9.

Blues Brothers find out they're playing at a rough county bar:

    Elwood:
What kind of music do you usually have here?

    Bar landlady:
Oh, we got both kinds. We got country and western

Austin Powers massaging Felicity Shagwell's back:

Austin: How does that feel, baby?
    Felicity Shagwell: Mmm, lower.
Austin: (in a deep voice) How does that feel, baby?

    Tony Kiritsis

Watched this late last night after you mentioned it, really interesting story. I thought Tony was hilarious, not sure if that's what I was supposed to get from it but he was like a cartoon character.

    Spoiler

Everything playing out so weirdly in public on radio and tv was crazy, it was like something out of a 70s film.

and knocked up another Mexican style coleslaw. All separate meals to dip in to over the next week.
The coleslaw is a great additional filler for wraps rather than a standard salad

What's in it? It looks great.

Also while I'm here who was it that made Huevos Rancheros? Was it @Chest Rockwell? What's ur recipe?
