  1. He’s had ten years - ten years! - of being a spooky boy. Maybe it’s time for his equivalent of ‘American Badass’ to happen.

If he comes back again it’s definitely going to be more of the same though. But I won’t be watching it so he can just crack on and the people who love it will love it.

I think the only thing that annoys me about the cinema is the adverts at the beginning. They feel longer but that might have been the Covid break and watching them without at home. I love movie trailers but not the other crap.

We normally try to arrive at the cinema about 15 minutes after the showtime on the tickets, means we miss most of the adverts and get sat down just as the trailers start.

We are doing a double feature today. Wanted to see both films, my wife and I rarely get a day off together, so making the most of it. We have done double features before - Logan and Trainspotting 2 kind of worked together, The Expendables 2 and Pixar’s Brave less so (but was more fun).

My heart was in my throat. Genuinely expected him to jump the rail and kickstart the inevitable angle. Couldn’t focus on anything else the whole time Christian was out there. Would they? Could they?! Surely not!

Otherwise, Battle of the Belts was the usual D-level show. Even the satellite broadcasting the show globally gave up half way through. A modern-day Beware of Dog. Beware of the Complete Waste of Time.

Not sure if it was in the overlap between Collision and BOTB rather than broadcast on either, but they showed CM Punk going over to him and giving him a hug. Nigel just referred to him as “a fan” or “someone” though.

I also really loved Cassidy vs Archer right up to the end, which I didn’t hate but took me by surprise. I suppose they don’t want Archer to already be losing again on night 2 back.

  4. This week’s show had something more exciting than anything we’ve had on Rampage for a while... We’re getting Orange Cassidy vs Lance Archer this weekend! How’s he going to escape with the title this time?!

  5. Swerve is a star. I hope they’re planning to get a singles belt on him soon. Nick Wayne didn’t do much for me (though having a backstory helps him stand out from the other ultra generic flippy guys) but if he’s there to further a Swerve-Darby storyline that gets them into a big grudge match at Wembley… yes please.

Loved the closing angle. So pleased PAC is back, I was hoping for that ever since it got suggested on here. Brilliant to have his Gatesheady tones back… “you broke my nose bone!”

And then the Kota announcement. Like everyone else, I thought of @Supremo and honestly I think a lot of my excitement is for him.

  6. Jericho seems like he’d be an extra weird choice to join the BCC team considering he’s been peddling the “sports entertainer” thing for as long as BCC’s existed, and they’re not exactly fans of that approach. Jericho joining the Elite team, though… that feels a tiny bit more logical to me.

  7. Saw Dead Reckoning Part 1 last night. It’s great. That almost goes without saying, but it is. Strong story, and a threat that feels really relevant at the moment. Hayley Atwell is a highlight. There’s a decision with a major character that I wasn’t on board with, but the final action set piece is so fantastic it nearly made me forget about that. I think there was about 15 minutes where I just didn’t stop gasping.

I think Rogue Nation and Fallout are still the tops of my Mission ranking, but the last act of this one particularly probably puts it above Ghost Protocol for me.

If I ever had the time and resources to make this into a book, some of the venues would get little bios of their own to break up the results. .

I really hope that one day you have the time and resources to make this into a book. It would be a treat to see it all again in that way.

Scotty Too Hotty finally reaches the end of his run after an incredible 20 uninterrupted years under contract.

Scotty had been under contract since 1987?

  9. The opening match was fantastic. Everyone played their parts brilliantly. Orange Cassidy, as @Supremo said, is Wrestler of the Year without question. Keith Lee was the best he’s been in months and months. Really good crowd too.

The rest of the show couldn’t quite keep up that level of quality, but what a great first 20 minutes!

Where you seeing that @HarmonicGenerator? Can't see anything on National Rail website as yet to suggest any issues with Kings Cross or St Pancras, but might just not have been updated yet.

LNER, so definitely affects coming down the East Coast Mainline. Looks like trains down to Grantham and buses from there to a connection that'll take you to St Pancras instead, or a change of train that'll double the journey time if you're coming from Scotland or the North East.

The Silo finale was brilliant. One ridiculous theory I had paid off, many others WAY off and some (that the Cloverfield monster did it) yet to be decided. I love this shit. My fate being in the hands of book paedos for the next year or so, minimum, has me uneasy. There's some stuff I'm a little confused on but not a fucking chance I'm typing "Silo" anything into a search bar!

We’re only three episodes in, but I’ve read the books, so I say don’t do it, don’t give in to searching! Much better if you can wait for season 2 for things to reveal themselves.

Because I'm out of touch with gaming these days, does this support multilayer on a single screen for up to 4 players? I'd like to think it would but can't find anything to confirm it online, just multilayer via online.

It does. Haven’t tried it yet - though my wife has said she’ll play as a way to get introduced to who’s who before Wembley - but 1-4 players is mentioned on the box.

Had my first 7-star match today, PAC beating Orange Cassidy in a ladder match in 17:32. Still can’t kick out of pins properly.

At the moment, we have three tournaments going on in AEW - the tag tournament and the two Owen Hart tournaments. In the grand scheme of things, the latter meant very little last year. There’s no reason to care.

I will care about the blind tag tournament if the whole thing turns out to be an excuse to team Orange Cassidy and Juice Robinson.

  14. It’s no All Stars, but while it’s quite good fun so far, I can’t help but still be a little disappointed. In a lot of ways it’s sub-SmackDown 1 on the PS1.

I’m still getting the hang of controls - dives seem trickier than they should be considering how many of them you get in real AEW, and I haven’t figured out kickouts yet - but the matches are generally easy enough to get to grips with. The barbed wire death match is my favourite. I’m surprised at how few match options there are. Blood & Guts or Coffin Matches or Dog Collars might be a bit tricky, but things like Ladder Matches only being possible as a one-on-one, or Falls Count Anywhere only actually being Falls Count At Ringside Or On The Ramp feels very barebones.

You'd also have thought the game could handle more than four people in the ring at once. SmackDown on the PS2 could deal with six, so I’m not sure of the thinking there, especially considering how reliant AEW has always been on Trios Matches.

I expected the roster to be on the smallish side so wasn’t too surprised at that, but I had hoped for more unlockable people. If CAW was better that wouldn’t matter - even if they did what SmackDown 1 did with the likes of Viscera or Mideon, and just have the basic template ready for you to put the character together - but it’s not, and that makes it more disappointing.

For the other stuff - Career mode seems fine. Online isn’t for me. The mini games are quite fun but it’s a shame there aren’t more. I’m surprised they couldn’t stick in something like Create A PPV - again, that’s something SmackDown 1 managed on the PS1. Overall, I think I might tire of this one fairly quickly despite the fun elements, but if they’re able to make some improvements with patches, that’d be good.

Can anyone recommend any good history podcasts?

If it’s just general history you’re interested in, the BBC History Extra magazine podcast might be a good shout, tons of episodes and they cover a decent range of stuff. You’re Dead To Me is great but as mentioned, the comedian guest can be hit or miss. History Hit has various podcasts on different subjects depending what you’re into. The Rest Is History seems to be huge though I’ve never got round to starting it, they’re doing a big live tour which suggests they’re doing something right. I just downloaded Dan Jones’ one, I can’t remember its name but looks to be focused on the medieval. And if you want the properly middle class option, the series Neil MacGregor did for Radio 4 in conjunction with the British Museum (History of the World in 100 Objects, Shakespeare’s Restless World, Germany: Memories of a Nation, Living with the Gods) they’re all available as podcasts and episodes are only 15 mins.

I also co-host a history podcast but we’re teeny tiny in comparison and I won’t shame my producing and editing abilities by posting it here, though I might have done in the past because I’m sure @Onyx2has messaged me about it before. But… if you fancy helping our total downloads go up a little bit, DM me and I’ll link you!

  16. The essential question - is it anything like WWE All Stars?

I'm going to try and find a shop that has it today and buy it, but if the answer is yes, I'll be extra excited to get home and try it out.

The Final Countdown gave me goosebumps.

    Same.

I thought that show was really good, a definite step up from last year’s Forbidden Door.

Punk/Kojima was solid stuff. Four way was lots of fun. Taz’s reaction at the turn was outstanding and it was a nice touch that they took him off the broadcast after that. Ten man tag was great. Omega/Ospreay hooked me, and the kick out at 1 was my favourite moment of the show.

Agree with @Merzbow that this might be the first time in AEW where Sting felt a bit out of step. Also agree with the people who disliked the convulsions in the main event - I assume it was being done to play on Danielson’s injury history, but I know enough about that history that it took me out of the match. However, I had no idea he’d legit broken his arm and thought that was all just selling so I’m clearly just a mark who can’t tell what’s real and what’s not!
