I bow to those who know more about New Japan than I do but am I right in thinking Tanahashi is one of the few New Japan talents that never did an excursion anywhere?
I know he worked Mexico for a couple of months with Nakamura but that wasn't counted as an excursion was it? Is there a reason why? I thought it was/is essentially a ritual to have an excursion for New Japan wrestlers?

Did he not do a spell in TNA in the 00s? I definitely remember a PPV match with AJ Styles.

  2. I never got Stone Cold as a babyface. He always came across as the opposite of someone I’d want to cheer, so there was definitely something about the act that I didn’t get. I knew what they were doing with the character and it clearly worked… just not for me.

The heel run in ‘01 was the best thing he did in WWE.

You can draw dotted lines between Adam Cole, MJF, Jay White, Adam Page, Strickland, Danielson, Christian Cage, Adam Copeland right now and it’s great. It feels like a real, over main event scene is developing in front of our eyes (with two titles, in the World and TNT titles) to sustain it. Love to see it.

I really liked this about the show too, lots of things felt like they connected and it worked really well.

Also loved the depth of Orange Cassidy's reaction to winning the International Title back. He wanted it back - he wanted to win - but as soon as he did, there was this undertone of "oh shit, I just remembered what having this last time did to me" and realisation that he's about to get beaten down again if he wants to be a champion.

It's crazy seeing an Edge match in AEW. Not my favourite match of the show - Swerve-Danielson was fantastic please send Swerve on a direct route to the main events - but it's Edge in AEW! So weird.

I'm afraid the significance of the roll of quarters passed me by completely; granted I was watching at 6am, but that's no excuse for me not picking up on the horrible connections to it. I thought up to that point MJF was doing really well portraying the reverse-role of a lone babyface being targeted by a top heel and his lackeys ... but yeah, they didn't need to go there.

Is anyone still actually watching Rampers any more?

Me! Especially this time of year when I'm normally off on a Saturday. It rarely gets my full attention but it's an easy 40 minutes while I'm still waking up.

Roderick Strong stuff is fucking awful. Nothing is changing my mind.

We had Dynamite on on ITV4 last night and it was one of the segments my wife liked most. It was Roddy, Timeless Toni Storm, The Acclaimed, and the OC/Hook interview for her. She likes it when wrestling leans into how silly it is. At the same time she was properly invested when Adam Cole didn't answer MJF's phone call. That storyline particularly can have drama and stupidity!

  6. What a great show. I thought Danielson vs Sabre particularly was tremendous. Could have watched them go another 20 minutes quite happily.

Swerve might end up rivalling OC as my wrestler of the year.

I’d had the ending spoiled for me when I went on YouTube yesterday to watch the pre-show, but I was still absolutely giddy - more than I thought I’d be - when Copeland appeared. Up until his retirement he was a favourite, and while I never got into his last WWE run, I’m really excited to see him in AEW.

    Good times.

The only thing I want to know is the final tally of Dolph Vs Kofi

32-29* to Kofi in the end by my count.

*that’s televised matches only, not including Royal Rumbles or battle royals where neither won, and not mentioning the 7 additional non-finishes. Don’t think they’ve wrestled on TV in nearly two years either!

  8. I’m struggling to focus in on the women’s division at the moment because I keep expecting something big to happen at the end of their segments and it keeps not happening. Mercedes Mone was at Wembley, does this mean she‘s going to… nope, maybe not. Jamie Hayter must be nearly ready to … ah, clearly not yet. Might Jade Cargill be gunning for the Women’s Title… nah, don’t know what’s going on there. It feels like they’re on the cusp of something big or new that’s going to power the division for a little bit, but the pieces aren’t quite there yet.

  9. It’s amazing the effect one great angle does for you. Pretty much everyone is cool with Adam Cole winning the AEW World Title now. Can you imagine that being the case a year or two ago? Even six months ago?

Fair play to The Rock though. Monster pop.

Watched it on YouTube and that was incredible. I don’t even care if they’ve boosted the crowd noise or added some production tricks, imagine being there for that! Amazing moment.

  11. Samoa Joe was ace pushing past MJF. He’s the perfect bastard to jump in amongst all the drama and smash stuff up.

Main event was incredible. It was a bloodbath that went exactly as I’d feared, but what a match. If you don’t have Orange Cassidy as your wrestler of the year I don’t know what’s wrong with you.

  12. It’s been 22 years since The Real World’s Champion turned up on WWE’s Autumn TV, holding the belt he never lost in another company. Punk vs Roman at WrestleMania, let’s go.

I’m genuinely a little surprised he’s gone. I shouldn’t be, but I am. Wonder how Collision will change without him there. Kind of cool we saw what turned out to be his last AEW match at Wembley, which I will now pretend Samoa Joe won.
