In regards to merch people were wearing there were tons of AEW brand shirts but the Acclaimed foam fingers were all over the place.

A surprising number of kids wearing "Scissor Me" t-shirts in our section. Not surprising because The Acclaimed are so popular; more the fact parents are totally cool having their pre-teen daughters wear t-shirts that say "Scissor Me"...

the amount of knowledgable chatter and big reactions for characters like Sue

Another wife anecdote incoming... she was laughing to herself for ages last night after we got home because "I just remembered Sue arriving in her van". Sue is OVER in our household.

  2. Ospreay really impressed me last night, and the match with Jericho was way better than I was expecting. He’s just so smooth and slick when he wrestles. If they bring him back next year for someone like Danielson I’ll be quite happy.

(and not to keep mentioning my wife, but this is the first wrestling show she’s seen live, and actually the first wrestling show she’s ever watched start to finish… and she liked Ospreay too, enough to still remember who he was the day after. She especially liked when he did “the flip that he turned into another flip” which I’m guessing was that crazy dive to the outside.)

  3. Sounds like our section was pretty decent as far as fans went. The guys behind us didn’t seem to like anyone, to the point that you wonder why they went to the show - Orange Cassidy? Shit. Darby Allin? Shit. Sting? Too old. Eddie Kingston? Fat and shit. Etc - but they were as obnoxious as it got.

Interesting to read about chants and things people noticed from the other sides of the stadium. Didn’t hear that Wyatt one at all. Have seen about Punk getting a split reaction but it was all boos for him and cheers for Joe round our way. And we may have been facing the entrance but clearly missed stuff, as I had no idea Saraya’s family walked out with her, or HOB did a Wyatt lantern tribute.

Still buzzing from what a great show it was in person. I do wish there’d been more women’s matches though - my wife didn’t understand why they felt relegated to one short match. Maybe Mercedes coming in will help boost the division.

  4. I’ve had a fantastic time. Feels like I’ve seen a proper, real, big time AEW show and I can’t wait to watch it back.

Highlights were Joe, Sue, Seek & Destroy and there being a happy ending.

My wife had sworn beforehand she was going to leave after two hours because no wrestling show should be longer than an episode of TV but she ended up staying for the whole thing and even got invested in whether Adam Cole would turn or not. She’s already said she’ll go again next year. Find yourself someone who’ll sit through five and a half hours of wrestling with you.

  5. What a horrible shock to wake up to this morning.

The fact that even the most recent thread on here about him, where everyone was generally a bit down about his character and gimmick, was full of ideas for what he could do, shows how much people wanted him to be a success. There was something special there, and now we’ll never get to see it fully realised again. That’s obviously sad. But for his family to lose their son - brother - husband - father - and at 36, is so much worse. That’s my age. Such upsetting news.

Probably didn't help that I very recently rewatched Andor, the best Star Wars show.

My wife's reaction to Ahsoka was "meh. It's no Andor", which is now her bar for a good Star War. If it's not as good or better than Andor, she's not interested.

And considering how fucking outstanding Andor was... I don't think she'll be watching Star Wars with me much in the future 😄

She did like the Loth-Cat, and was happy to see a lightsaber duel between two women ("has that ever happened before?" - I couldn't think of one except maybe in Clone Wars somewhere), but was otherwise pretty uninterested, which has tended to be her reaction to most of the Favreau/Filoni shows.

  7. One of the greatest of all time. I first heard of him through Foley’s first book, where he was portrayed as an absolute hero to Mick. One of the first ECW branded videos I managed to get hold of was his “retirement” match against Bret Hart, and I bought that for Terry rather than Bret. I can’t pretend to have seen loads of his matches, but every time I did - whether it was against Lawler or Flair, or Sabu or Cactus - whoever really, he was a joy to watch. He got wrestling in a way very few others ever have. Such sad news. RIP Funker.

Can I enjoy it without Rebels? I never did get around to watching it all.

It’ll definitely help, but it’s not essential. The Star Wars Explained channel on YouTube did a good video the other day which will fill you in on anything vital. They recap the whole show in about 10 minutes -

This is essentially Rebels S5, and I'm looking forward to what's next.

Same. Just finished rewatching Rebels so I’m very up for seeing these guys again.

    Some scattered thoughts:

Ray Stevenson is excellent. Natasha Liu Bordizzo is perfect Sabine casting. The music is great.
Huyang has all of my heart and I will be destroyed if they kill him off.
The makeup / head stuff for Ahsoka and Hera takes some getting used to.
There is a cat. He is a good boy and a brave boy.
Some nice Rebels easter eggs in there. It was awesome seeing the Phantom in live action. If we see the Ghost I’ll be very very happy.
    It feels properly Star Wars-y.
Some of the exterior scenes were very obviously Volume-y. Interiors didn’t come across so much like that, but hopefully this one won’t have the same background issues as the Obi-Wan show.
Not sure how it’ll sustain over 8 episodes but a good start.

There was a period OVW was genuinely brilliant around the era of The Spirit Squad, Armando Alejandro Estrada and CM Punk. I used to download it on XWT and it was my favourite show on TV at the time.

I’m a sucker for any wrestling doc so looking forward to this.

That was Paul Heyman’s stint of booking it I think. I used to get all the DVDs from his run there - Johnny Jeter as a despicable main event heel, Damien Sandow coming out to ‘Brick House’ with Beth Phoenix and Ariel on his arms, CM Punk and Brent Albright having a cracking series of matches, Ken Doane as the teenage prodigy, Osama Rodriguez Alejandro and Robbie Dawber bringing the backstage comedy along with Dean Visk and his ridiculous OTT promos … it was good stuff. I think I sold those DVDs to Marc from Wrestle Me last year and I hope the quality held up, some great one hour episodes of TV there.

    Road Rage wasn't great.

    Hit and Run was decent.

Take that back! Road Rage was brilliant and I wish they’d re-release it. You could drive the Homer car up the Escalator To Nowhere! Superb game.

Simpsons Movie Maker on PC in 19dicketywhenever was also great.

This is similar to the scary thought I sometimes have, which is that someone somewhere is still watching new episodes of The Simpsons. They're still making them so it stands to reason someone is watching.

  13. It has surprised me how many people want to see non-AEW people appearing on the AEW show. For me, I've been watching Dynamite, Rampage and now Collision since the beginning, and the people who've been on those shows regularly are the ones I want to see. I want the people from my AEW TV to be on my AEW live show.

I suppose the company has fostered the idea of other wrestlers coming in for one-shots pretty much since the beginning too, though. From the likes of Warhorse during Cody's first TNT run to the New Japan types popping up whenever to Rob Van Dam just this week (that was a good match, wasn't it?). So in a way I guess there is an expectation and maybe people want that at Wembley for a good reason?

  14. They mentioned PAC being injured and that he won't be at Wembley quite a lot on this show. This is probably just to hammer it home to me (me, specifically me) that he is definitely injured and he definitely won't be at Wembley and yet I still hold onto hope he's going to turn up in a week or two and challenge the BCC and/or Best Friends/OC for All In.

  15. Saw some posters for the show at Waterloo station tonight. Saraya front and centre so you’d have to think she’s going to be showcased, but no idea where. Do they go with her vs Storm in a “we’re friends but I want to win the title at Wembley” kind of deal?

Are you hugely invested in being in Amsterdam for the nightlife late at night? If not I would suggest you look at Leiden which is about 30 mins outside by train. Amsterdam's got to ridiculous levels of accommodation price.Tickets were not expensive. It's a cool little university town with everything you might want on a much smaller scale and none of what you don't want like high prices, sketchy people etc. Gives you good access to a bit of the Dutch country

Singapore is a nice place, lots of interesting stuff to see especially around the old colonial buildings in China town, Clarke quay, the mosque area. Very easy to get around, heaps.of good food.

But if you have more than a few days there you'll get bored. So if you have a longer holiday planned consider taking a cheap flight or overlanding by train to somewhere nearby. I'd recommend Kuala Lumpur, Bangkok, Langkawi, Phuket (although both islands might be a bit rainy in June). Even places like Cambodia and good old Vietnam where I live (see got in there!) Would be good choices at that time of year and from Singapore not a ballache to head over to and back for your main flight home.

Thanks for the tips - we did end up going in 2019! Had a great time and didn’t feel the need to go beyond Singapore itself. Even got an extra night because our flight back was cancelled. Can recommend!

  17. We’ve said it before and I’ll say it again now, give Swerve the title.

Surprised PAC didn’t come out to help his friends at the end, especially since he was definitely in the building. Death Triangle vs Best Friends & OC vs BCC in a Wembley Stadium Stampede? Sue doing a run-in in a London cab? Not a chance but my fantasy booking head wants it now.

Jack Perry Vs ecw is gonna go one way…former ecw champion Matt hardy with some kinda contract involved

Between Matt, Johnny TV, Paul Wight, Jake Hager and Punk he could have his choice of former ECW champs.

I like this son of a son of a plumber vs son of a taxman feud idea. Easy to invent some age old family beef. They could do some good work with the story of Bray being a WWE boy who’s basically had it all handed to him but pretends to be the alt goth versus Cody’s having to leave build up another company then comeback but I wouldn’t trust them to handle it. I feel like for Bray to be able to rid himself of his spooky shit he just needs to stop doing it and have them down play it all as mind games and smoke and mirrors if they ever do reference it.

Perfect for a Cody feud then! "Oh! oh" etc.
