What's the story behind that match then?

I think it was something about Davey Richards telling Zebra Kid he'd call the match as he had been wrestling 5 (im not sure on the number) years and was therefore the veteran and would lead Zebra through the match. Also making it clear he wasn't happy wrestling someone who was on weekend release from prison.

What a cock. He'd been wrestling to 5 years, ZK had probably been wrestling since he was 5 years old.

Just started to watch that match and 10 seconds into his into, Davey Richards has already kicked a fans' hand out of the way, flipped the bird twice and picked up something from a table and threw it at the timekeeper. What a fucking heel. Anyone that has been wrestling for 5 years is still quite a novice in wrestling terms. And 10 years is certainly no 'vet'. What a clueless cunt.

It was even better than that. Before that even started, he was actually introducing himself by walking up to people and going "Davey Richards, five years". That, and everything that followed, say to me that he's obviously had his own ideas about how to conduct himself in the business for a long time. I don't know if someone put that in his head early on or if he developed that attitude on his own, but the guy just seems to approach pro wrestling as if it's a totally different thing from what most people think it is.

ROH taped the September 22 TV tapings as the “biggest wrestling event in Baltimore history.”

Episode #3 Taping

(1) Steve Corino & Jimmy Jacobs beat the Bravado Brothers in a Tag Title tournament First Round match. Jacobs and Corino said that Cornette made them put up their ROH contracts if they were to compete. So, if they lose any match in this tournament, they will leave ROH.

Guardians of Truth then attacked Jacobs & Corino post-match. Steen makes the save. Rhino then came out and hit the Gore on Steen.

(2) Matt Taven vs. Jay Lethal ended in a No Contest most likely. Lethal cuts a promo saying he talked to Cornette about getting a World Title shot, but Cornette’s response was that he didn’t have a “killer instinct." Jay then low-blowed Taven at the start of the match. He then hit the Lethal Injection on the referee, who wasn't Turner or Sinclair.

(3) Rhett Titus & Charlie Haas beat the Guardians of Truth in a Tag Title tournament First Round match. Titus won with a roll-up on one of the Guardians. Corino and Jacobs attacked the Guardians post-match.

Episode #4 Taping

(1) The Briscoes beat BLK OUT (Jeez & Ruckus) in a Tag Title tournament First Round match. Briscoes won with a Frog Elbow Drop on Ruckus.

(2) Mike Sydal beat Mike Bennett via count-out after Mike Mondo came to ringside and kissed Maria (lucky guy) and Mike Bennett chased him to the back.

(3) Tomasso Ciampa beat Mike Posey. R.D. Evans was on commentary. He was attacked by Prince Nana and Ciampa made the save.

(4) ROH TV champion Adam Cole vs. “Unbreakable” Michael Elgin ended in a No Contest; Cole retained the TV Title. The No Contest was a result of ref Sinclair getting hit by Cole when being powerbombed. Guardians of Truth, who were at ringside, were attacked by Steen, Corino, and Jacobs. Rhino then attacked Steen. The episode ended with Elgin and Roddy getting in each other's faces, teasing an Elgin face turn. They didn’t fight, but it's clear they aren’t a cohesive unit any more.

- Four teams advancing to semi-finals of ROH Tag Title tournament: Briscoes, Haas & Titus, Steve Corino & Jimmy Jacobs, and Caprice Coleman & Cedric Alexander.

So that means DBD X, one of ROH's biggest shows usually will likely end up as:

Steen vs Rhino for the ROH Title.

Cole vs Mondo for the ROH TV Title.

Corino & Jacobs (most likely due to the retirement clause if they lose) vs The Briscoes or Titus/Haas.

Wait, why are Titus and Hass teaming?

I actually don't mind Steen vs a motivated Rhyno in a big brawl kicking the crap out out of eachother.

But yeah ROH just isn't doing anything for me and haven't for ages a part from all the Stern stuff from 2011 to now. The only thing that makes it look like it isn't 1978, is when Maria comes out sucking on a lollipop with her ass hanging out. It's tragic how she illicits a live response just walking out without cramming a bunch of near falls and stiff kicks.

Also, where's the golden boy Davey?

Watching their latest TV, they come off as really past it. The show looks grainy and the intro with the guy lacing boots reeks old-time. I can't see how it could appeal to the 18-25 demo, it looks the complete opposite of edgy or progressive which ROH looked under Gabe with less money for production and talent and tighter adherence to the code of honour.

Actually I did quite enjoy Kelly calling Cole getting his teeth kicked out of his mouth recently but any drama felt nullified by the fact that you really don't see an interesting direction for the company as a whole.

Because King left so Rhett had an X as his partner. Benjamin is "suspended" aka in Japan so Haas had an X as his partner. Of course them teaming up led to the Corino/Jacobs team being able to get included.

It's going to be an alright brawl, but it's definitely going to be one of the weakest main events ROH has run since going to iPPV. Why is Steen, a heel trying to take down ROH, facing Rhino, a man who is a mercenary affiliated with ROH's second tier heel group? No reason if other than Rhino being a former TV star.

Davey's on a storyline LOA from ROH after losing to Steen. Sources say he's going to return, but he's playing it as if he's done if his shoot trailer was anything to go by. I downloaded it but haven't watched it yet.

O'Reilly was supposed to face Kozina last night, but it appears both were pulled after the Iowa incident.

I guess ROHWorld is their main forum now but I don't frequent that forum often as it's full of idiots.

It's interesting that its taken the state of ROH for Cornette to be exposed as pretty much just a rent-a-mouth (albeit a very passionate, convincing and entertaining one) who's take on wrestling is clearly outdated...you only have to listen to his WWE 1997 Timeline shoot, were he's pretty much opposed to everything that made the attitude era (and anything russo related) and it's not a surprise that 15 years later he's still not quite with the times.....

His "rebooking the invasion" shoot is also a doozy and ends with an angle even worse than the actual Invasion we got (Hogan vs Dusty, loads of Terry Funk and loads of WERKEDSHOOTS~!)

As far as ROH goes, its not entirely his fault, i'm sure he's useful to have backstage in some capacity, but as others have said, the rot with ROH set in way before Gabe left and has gotten worse and worse as the years go on.

I'd like to say the answer is getting Gabe back somehow, but really, the only thing blander than ROH in the US indies is Evolve.

Isn't there some sort of inter-promotional deal being talked about between Sapolsky and ROH?

As far as replacing Cornette goes, this article highlights one man who would certainly make shit interesting;

Last week I made the suggestion that Ring of Honor bosses should be thinking about getting a new booking team in place. The combination of Jim Cornette and Hunter Johnston have had two years to advance the company and create new stars. They

Who wrote that? What a sickening article, full of fantasy booking and out right lies. Comparing TNA (who is on a national TV station and has several wrestlers on 6 figure deals) to Ring of Honor is short sighted to say the least. Heyman would never work with Ring of Honor. Contrary to popular believe, Heyman isn't a smart mark who is desperate to see the wrestling business thrive. He wants to be paid and work for a place who will give him enough freedom and money to do his own thing. They can't afford Kenny King. How are they meant to pay someone like Heyman enough money to drop everything in his life to put up with the massive headache of booking glorified indy shows. There's more chance of Russo taking over than Heyman. Heyman booking ROH would be like Heyman booking OVW. The buildings will still be tiny, the production would still be piss poor and they'd still be owned by someone who doesn't care about them.ROH doesn't just need a new booker. They need investment, they need someone who can light the arena properly, they need a new roster of people, they need better costumes, better advertising, they need a person in charge of the wrestling product who isn't 50 years old with delusions that wrestling is some sort of form of real fighting. They are fucked either way with their current ownership. Also, Heyman signed with the WWE the other week and is now a regular in the same vein as Vickie Guerrero, so that isn't happening. CM Punk should have bought them last year when he had the chance.
