Paid Members FLips Posted May 19, 2012 Paid Members Posted May 19, 2012 The business is "exposed" everywhere you look now, even WWE do it massively now. There's exposing the business and then there's doing a YMCA in a ring and putting it online in a vain attempt at humour to attract mouth breathers who are into that sort of thing. Like that CZW video.Except this YMCA thing is much closer to the sort of things Rikishi and Too Cool used to do, or even Brodus Clay now. Even stuff like Voodoo and magic have been used loads in WWE. Undertaker, one of the biggest stars in history shoots lightning from the sky. Plus you have people getting buried alive and allsorts. I'd say having The Undertaker buried alive and then coming back from the dead and shooting lightning and fire about the place is much much more business exposing than some indy fed having a bit of a dance on a charity show.
cobystag Posted May 19, 2012 Posted May 19, 2012 Coming from the guy himself who wouldn't pay to watch it seen as the only way you'd see it to begin with is to download it illegally and wouldn't travel to a BritWres show regardless of what American names are on it?C'mon now Ian..Did I say I would travel or even follow this promotion? No. You obviously don't understand what I'm saying. Which isn't surprising considering most people who defend British Wrestling can't see the leaves from the trees anyway, and thats why its got a perception thats its not worth going to see. My point is that, if you want to attract an audience its probably not the best idea to put on the internet a video like the one posted above. When I think of PCW, now all I will think of is a bunch of gonks doing the YMCA. Imagine if the average bloke saw that. If you could attract the likes of me, then you probably would be doing something special. Easily please pillocks like Triple A who complain about everything is probably not the best audience to target, though. And actually this video proves why I wouldnt follow British Wrestling. That kind of stuff just put me off completely. I dont want to see arseholes doing the YMCA when I go to a show, and that's the kind of shit that I expect at these rotten British Wrestling events. Its bad enough admitting to liking wrestling as it is, without shite like this.Actually, I was referring to this little bit of hypocrisy from yourself:Talk about throwing a girly fit or what. I usually hate that sort of thing, but I found that quite funny towards the end. It was a charity show for a sick kid, they weren't trying to put on some sort of masterclass in wrestling. You would never pay to watch it anyway or be interested to check it out further, so what does your opinion matter? You're exactly the type of fan that wont bother either way, so you just proved my point.Could what you said to TripleA above, not also be applied to yourself? You wouldn't pay to watch it anyway. You wouldn't be interested to check it out further. What does YOUR opinion matter? You're exactly the type of fan that won't bother anyways........It's funny cos when I think of WWE all I will thing of is Santino's cobra, Carlito running into walls and all that other realistic hijinx.....I get why you don't like the comedy.I get why it doesn't appeal to you.But BritWres could put on a really good match, and you'd call it two vanilla midgets with no psychology, etc etc.You could see a character driven match and wrestler, and I'm sure you'd remark about how small time it was.I don't think there is anything in BritWres that will appeal to you, so a lot of what you attributed to another poster will most likely be applicable to yourself.
Patrick "Madman" Kelly Posted May 19, 2012 Posted May 19, 2012 its just a varying opinion. I dont expect everyone to like it and if Ian dont like it then thats fine. I think there is plenty of videos on PCW which further highlight how good a promotion is which is why it draws consistantly and is one of the fastest growing promotions in the UK. If Ian has chosen not to watch them and pre judges the promotion on the back of this then hes entitled to do so and thats up to him at the end of the day. No animosity from me with regards to that. From the general feedback that has come from this video across the board, it has been very positive so I can say that Ian is in the minority that did not enjoy it which is a clear indication that he is of the minority. If the majority enjoyed it then that can be considered a success but that does not make the minorities opinion any less valid. It just means that we have to do something else to potentially attract them as fans.Is this goal actually possible?Very unlikely but the day you dont strive to entertain everyone is probably the day you should pack in. its an impossible goal but it dont mean you should not try to attain it.PS im the arsehole with the black mask on lol

I'd say having The Undertaker buried alive and then coming back from the dead and shooting lightning and fire about the place is much much more business exposing than some indy fed having a bit of a dance on a charity show.Wrestling isn't like that. You need to invest in the characters before you allow them to have any freedom when it comes to fakery. Thats always been the case. Otherwise you get typecast. Its why Vampiro ran off viewers by the shitloads when he tried to copy the Undertakers antics in WCW. Fans know the Undertaker. They know he can do some stupid shit, but they also know his history of being an evil man from Death Valley. Thats fair enough. If I see Greg Kickpad Koslov for the first time, and he's fighting his mate - then STOPS! - and then starts doing the Mash Potato and the Alligator with his opponent, then that's him cast as a joke character for life with me. If the whole promotion is doing it, then the whole promotion is cast as a complete joke. And yes, WWE has done some insane stuff. No denying that. But they have been established as something completely different from that. They are a big time promotion, known the world over. They aren't "the promotion who had Hornswoggle run through a wall". ECW was the promotion with the barbed wire and the insane dives, no matter how much wrestling they had on the show and that's how fans and television people saw them and it stunted their growth. TNA is seen as a complete joke to the mass audience, even thought Impact has been better than Raw for months now. The fans dont care though, because they have been burned by TNA so many times, quality isn't what they think of when they think of TNA. This PCW promotion shouldn't put stuff like this online, because if it catches on and people begin to have an idea in their head that PCW are some joke promotion who does this all the time, it wont help them. Not in the long run anyway. That's what I'm getting at. I'm not bothered either way. Just expressing an opinion. Just some people are to sensitive to see what I'm getting at. If PCW or British Wrestling died tomorrow I couldn't give a single fuck. That wasn't the point I was making. My point was, its probably not best to put it online where people are not familiar with PCW can see it. Like me. Who has this reaction to it, and now thinks of them as "that YMCA promotion".I'm surprised at some of the reaction to this. Talk about me having a girly fit. Fuck me. The way people are jumping to the defense of one persons criticism of something plainly shite is ridiculous. Especially when Pat said "Point taken Ian. I dont whole heartedly agree with everything your saying but its handy feedback for future reference." For once, the best reaction in the discussion was the person on the receiving end of the criticism. But BritWres could put on a really good match, and you'd call it two vanilla midgets with no psychology, etc etc.Thats you taking a literal bitch fit, because thats not how I view wrestling at all. You must not read my posts much. You could see a character driven match and wrestler, and I'm sure you'd remark about how small time it was. That's, again, bollocks, but whatever.I don't think there is anything in BritWres that will appeal to you, so a lot of what you attributed to another poster will most likely be applicable to yourself.Again, that's why I'm being critical of a video I've saw as a one off, and that only applies to the defender and not the accuser. I'm stating how shit it was and how that is the very reason I wouldn't pay to see it. Those defending it will either not pay to see it or will be watching it anyway. Again, your post is overly defensive and not taking on board any points I've made. Well done.
Loki Posted May 19, 2012 Posted May 19, 2012 Apologies if this has already been posted.Injured American veteran walks again and loses a LOT of weight with help from DDP: That's fucking awesome. The guys achievement is absolutely briliant and massive but what exactly did DDP do? The only time you see him in the video is at the start, did the guy just use a DDP Yoga DVD or something? He used the DDP dvds and spoke to/emailed him on a regular basis for advice and pep talks. So Page coached him and helped out.You know what? That's genuinely fucking brilliant. DDP has found something outside of wrestling that is so much more important and inspirational, fair play to him. And that's an amazing transformation. I'd love to send that to my mate who's very overweight and immobile, but he's just not ready to try and change his life.

Again, your post is overly defensive and not taking on board any points I've made. Well done. How am I being overly defensive? Actually, have I chucked my oar in in regards to the video content itself and PCW as a whole? Because I actually haven't mentioned my opinions on the video, PCW, BritWres, any of the wrestlers featured in the video, so what am I defending?I was merely pointing out your hypocrisy. You dismissed a persons opinion because they wouldn't pay to watch it. I actually do read your posts and in regards to your use of torrents, I don't think you actually pay that much to watch wrestling and wouldn't go to any wrestling shows.
Paid Members IANdrewDiceClay Posted May 19, 2012 Paid Members Posted May 19, 2012 You are being overly defensive because its obvious you didn't like something I said. You don't need to mention it. Its obvious. You have your little sig advertising a British Wrestling show, most of your posts are about British Wrestling (including the promotion I've been critical on in this very discussion), I mention something in British Wrestling is shit and then out you pop with your little defensive posts, even though Patrick "Madman" Kelly has already came out and stated he accepted and thanked me for my feedback. Its an opinion I have, which I have tried to explain. And you obviously didn't like it, hence your little arse fit. So now your posts come across as agenda ridden tripe and aren't worth arguing with. But I'll try and have a go anyway. And AGAIN, you aren't actually seeing my point, because you have the blinkers on. Why would I pay money to see something that doesn't appeal to me? And why would I stop having an opinion on something if I don't like it? I didn't like that PCW video, so I probably wouldnt pay to see it. As far as shows I've paid to see, I've been to see All Star Wrestling every year at the Sunderland Empire regardless of who is on it for a good 10 years. Probably longer. I've been to see IWF in Sunderland. I've seen CWR in Newcastle. I've been to more local shows than you've had hot fucking dinners mate. Just because I dont fuck about on here banging on about it like Dean Allmark is relevant to the masses, doesn't mean you have any idea how much I pay to see wrestling each year. Prejudge me all you want, its quite funny considering thats what you were just accusing me of. What was that you were saying about dismissing people's opinions?
cobystag Posted May 19, 2012 Posted May 19, 2012 I've had plenty of hot fucking dinners unfortunately, mate.Did All Star, IWF, CRW not even do a little comedy in matches? Surely Little Legs was on there? But I do agree with you in that I had the blinkers on in regards to your response to TripleA, and my pre-conception that you tended to take pot shots at BritWres and wouldn't give it a chance. However please don't misconceive that I'm one of those "Insert BritWres guy is relevant to the masses" people.

Not being funny might have to give this a go and see what I can do as im a bit of a lard arse. I'm always busy with work and don't have time to piss about at a gym, yoga indoors would be cool. Plus i used to do martial arts when i was younger and was super felxible, still am for a fat bloke (on some Sammo Hung shit) but would love to get better.
Paid Members WWFChilli Posted May 19, 2012 Paid Members Posted May 19, 2012 The GPW Thriller dance routine was comedy that worked in BritWres. Partly because it was in an undercard match with comedy characters. Using main guys to do it on the PCW is daft IMO. You need to keep the comedians and the wrestlers apart and retain a good balance. Thriller Dance (for the record this was filmed and out online by a fan)

Thriller DanceYou do realize that none of the guys involved in the PCW vid are any of their main guys? Ruffers is the closest thing to a "main" guy and he doesn't exactly play it straight....So it's pretty much the same as the GPW scenario. Actually I'd say if anything it was an imitation.
Tehlulz Posted May 20, 2012 Posted May 20, 2012 Really good, little video, definitely worth a look if you have a spare 3 minutes and 17 seconds.
Paid Members ColinBollocks Posted May 21, 2012 Paid Members Posted May 21, 2012 Yeah, great stuff. It's a shame his interview with Letterman, promoting 'No Holds Barred', hasn't surfaced on the web yet (well, I can't find it). Seeing Vince outside his little World is always a treat.
